  1. According to MLB Gameday, the Pirates called a pitchout with Betancourt on 1st. Why? Also, Lucroy heard you all talking about him.
  2. MLB Gameday reported that Greinke threw a 67 mph curveball to Tabata. Can anyone watching verify this? I have read that he did this in KC.
  3. I don't post often but I look at the link report almost everyday. I look forward to seeing the Brewers young SP pitch each night. One SP I am excited about is Merklinger. SP whose strikeout numbers reach double digits are rare. I believe he has done it 3 times in the last 2 months. I know he is 24 and pitching in A+, but with his recent results I would think we will see him rise on the next Power 50. Has anyone seen him pitch or give a scouting report on him? I know others have questioned it before but why haven't the Brewers been more aggressive with him? I am assuming he doesn't need to be added to the 40 man roster this offseason.
  4. According to this blog, Brooks Hall agreed to terms a couple of weeks ago and is waiting for the commissioner's office to approve it. The interview looks to have been posted on Aug. 2nd. I am surprised this information hasn't made it to this forum yet. If true, it is great news. There is also a link to the audio from the interview as well as the transcript. http://brewernation.mlblogs.com/ Also, according to this article, Kentrail Davis's college coach is not optimistic that Davis will return to Tennessee. http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2009/jul/28/raleigh-making-his-pitch-to-draftees/ editted to remove wierd highlighting
  5. Davis is projected to be a Type B free agent after this year. Which would mean he could bring back a sandwich pick if the Brewers offer arbitration and he declines. I would think this would increase his value a little.

  11. With the final pick of the 1st round the Cards select Buster Posey. Other players that were considered were Austin Jackson, Jordan Schafer, and Aaron Crow.
  12. I am happy to see this thread didn't die, I didn't think I would get the chance to draft. I also didn't think people would start drafting the 2008 college juniors. I was planning on taking Alvarez and Matusz with my two picks. I am a huge Mat Gamel fan and still root for Will Inman, but there is no way they should be taken ahead of Alvarez. I know that question was asked earlier by ILuvDaBush, but putting my Brewers bias aside, Alvarez has got to be the choice. That being said Brian Matusz is the pick. Back in 2005, he told teams he would sign for 1.5 million (IIRC) and the Angels thought he would take 1 million. 1.5 million is well above slot for this late in the 1st round but the Cards would happily pay it to get a SP like Matusz in their system.
  13. I would also like to add that high school players from the 2005 draft that went to a 4 year college would be eligible again to draft in 2008. So take a look at yesterdays draft for college juniors (which is the vast majority). Players like Pedro Alvarez (14th round), Brian Matusz (4th), Yondor Alonso (16th), Buster Posey (50th), Justin Smoak (16th), Jemile Weeks (8th), Gordon Beckam (undrafted), and Aaron Crow (undrafted) are available.
  14. I'll take the Cards.
  15. The other player that Manuel mentioned by name in the chat was Chad Robinson. Later in the chat he mentions an upcoming feature on Gallardo. He also says that the Brewers are loaded with pitching prospects at the lower levels.
  16. For those of you lucky enough to be watching the game, how hard is Turnbow throwing?
  17. Don't forget about Kyle Bohm. The Blue Jays took him in the 16th round as a catcher. I believe he played a lot at 1b in college (Michigan) but saw some time behind the plate. Bohm went to high school in Stevens Point and accepted a scholarship to Auburn before transferring to Michigan.
  18. I found this on Jonathon Mayo's blog at MLB.com. I am not excited about Zimmerman although I am not into the draft as much as others here. When I hear about a great glove 3b with gap power I think of Burroughs, ugh. Can someone please tell me why this is not an accurate comparison? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif In a somewhat surprising move, it appears that high school outfield phenom Cameron Maybin wil be heading to Washington D.C. this weekend for a private workout for the Nationals. The surprise comes because it seems all but certain that the Nats will take Virginia's Ryan Zimmerman with their pick at No. 4 in the first round. I guess this could be a change of plans, but it's more likely that the Nationals are just covering all their bases. Just in case something goes awry with Zimmerman -- he gets picked earlier, an unofficial pre-draft deal blows up -- it's always good to have a strong Plan B. Just ask the Padres, who had to switch gears last second with their No. 1 pick in 2004 (some might say that Matt Bush was Plan C, but I digress). And there are far worse Plan B's to have than the five-tooled Maybin.
  19. I would really like the Brewers to draft this guy. I know we need a 3b but if Gordon is not there then this has got to be the guy. He sounds like Brad Lidge with that fastball/slider combo. Every team would love to have a reliever like him and we could always try the Blue Jay method of converting college RP into pro starters. I am sure his coaches have tried to teach him a change-up in the past but he could be a top of the line starter with a good off-speed pitch. I like CamMay as much as the next guy but I hope the Brewers don't pass on Hansen. I found some info on Hansen on the message boards at Perfect Game. 8. Craig Hansen, rhp, St. John's U. With 96 mph fastball, 90 mph slider, could nation's premier closer be first to reach majors? (Only saw this kid throw on TV and he has a hammer of a slider and pretty good fastball) 5/22 Update: Pitched four no-hit innings for the save on Saturday, as rumors persist that he's in the mix for No. 1 (Many comparisons to Joe Nathan)
