  1. I'm glad you said this, because it's exactly how I feel about Payne. Very cautiously optimistic about his start, but need to see if he can make more contact as he continues to move up. This is also why I'm actually not all that happy with Fischer's start in High A. The counting stats look nice, but underneath the hood is rough. Running a 58% contact rate, which is pretty awful. If you thought he would be a fast riser to the Majors this season, this start has squashed that dream.
  2. Correct. Which was fine when he was throwing 100. Now it's just a meatball.
  3. There is nothing sustainable about Megill. He's going to get shelled repeatedly throwing 96 mph.
  4. Not if his arm is gone, which was pretty clear from all reports.
  5. You don't think other teams are aware of the major health concerns Megill has with his arm?
  6. Using an opener and still blowing through your entire bullpen is not ideal. Been a tough few days of pitching management. But can't blame Murphy for the quality of hitters we currently have in the back half of our lineup.
  7. Doubt they could get much for a guy whose arm is falling off.
  8. Bottom of the lineup is tough right now. Chourio will solve one of the spots. 3B and SS will continue to be problems.
  9. Another unique pitching management decision fail today. Wrong levers have been pulled for 3rd straight game.
  10. I just want someone to love me like Murphy loves Ashby
  11. Unfortunately I don't think Hall is a major league pitcher. Not our best trade.
  12. The 50% K rate for Mitchell is probably not sustainable for effective hitting.
  13. Those 2 days when Joey could hit were a lot of fun
  14. Fastball becomes hittable once hitters realize he can't throw anything else in the zone.
  15. My only long term concern with Sproat is whether the fastball plays at all at the majors. It's fast but seems to otherwise have no life to it.
  16. Not helpful to have Quero behind the plate with a struggling young pitcher
  17. I like Sproat and think he has a bright future, but this one may not last an inning.
  18. With bases loaded, that has to be a challenge from Turang. It's close, but I think it was a ball.
  19. Maybe it's just me, but I see Jett having a shot at CF longterm, and I suspect that's why we wanted him. He definitely has the arm and defensive chops for it. I'm not sold on Mitchell ever being a thing, and Perkins is never going to be able to hit. I think Ortiz gets a lot of runway this season to figure it out, and I'm guessing they see some combination of Pratt/Made as the Ortiz replacement down the road.
  20. It's a good move for the Cubs. But I agree that he is a downgrade on what they had with Tucker last year. This isn't 2019 Bregman. Statcast tells the story of a professional hitter who knows exactly what he's doing at the plate, but doesn't impact the ball quite like he used to. Good player but not a needle mover that should freak anyone out.
  21. Recognizing that there was bad defense and luck at play today, there was always going to be regression with Woodruff that we've been seeing the past few outings. I still think he can be a decent and effective pitcher, but hard to maintain elite or very good status throwing 92 mph in the modern MLB with average offspeed offerings.
  22. Did not realize how miserable the parking operation at Appleton is.
  23. Clearly the front office disagrees because they're essentially paying Miller $7.5 mil the rest of the season. Now that money is essentially evened out with Cortes gone, but they still could've been cheap and saved that money.
