  1. Final: Indianapolis 8, Richmond (Braves) 1 Wow, no game coverage from the Indianapolis Star except for the wire report -- this for the second home game of the season -- that's poor... Game Summary from SportsNetwork: For the sixth consecutive game, the team that scored the first run of the contest failed to pick up the victory as the Indianapolis Indians (4-2) charged from behind to take an 8-1 victory over the visiting Richmond Braves (3-4). Richmond opened the scoring off Tribe starter Ben Hendrickson in the first. Pete Orr led off with an opposite field single to left, later scoring on Ryan Langerhans' sacrifice fly to left. The Tribe countered in their first plate appearance against Braves starter Sam McConnell. Dave Krynzel reached base on a bunt, then scored on Chris Magruder's fielder's choice. Indianapolis scored a pair in the third, then added another pair in the fourth behind Corey Hart's second home run of the season to left. J.J. Hardy added another run for the Tribe in the seventh with his first home run of the year. Hendrickson (1-0) earned the victory for the Tribe. After a rocky first inning, he held the Braves scoreless for the next five innings. In all, the Tribe righthander struck out four batters, allowing one run on four hits, while walking one batter and throwing one wild pitch. McConnell (0-1) picked up the loss, throwing four innings, allowing five hits and five runs. Ryan Jackson collected a pair of hits for the Braves who lost their second straight. The two teams meet again Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. Pedro Liriano (0-0) will face Chuck Smith (0-0). Indianapolis Box Score: J.J. Hardy and Corey Hart with HR's, with J.J. moving to the # 2 spot in the order; Tribe turns four double plays; stellar pitching, no errors -- just a wonderfully clean, impressive victory all around... 7. Indianapolis Star Game Story: Day's weakest hit beats Tribe Broken-bat double in 9th inning gives Tides win in a game that features 28 hits By Phillip B. Wilson phillip.wilson@indystar.com A splendid, warm afternoon for hitting baseballs came down to one lucky liner off the end of a broken bat, the last knock in a 28-hit Thursday at Victory Field. Norfolk's Craig Brazell was fooled on a Chris Michalak curve and connected just enough to shoot a flare down the right-field line for a double that scored Mike Jacobs with the deciding ninth-inning run in a 7-6 International League victory over the Indianapolis Indians. The late heroics on a picture-perfect day -- with temperatures climbing into the 70s -- ended the Indians' unblemished run in home openers at 10 in a row. It was also the first time the Indians have lost a home opener after seven consecutive wins at Victory Field. "What can you do about it?" Michalak (1-1) said of the two-out hit. "It wasn't like he was hitting it 419 feet off the wall." The teams combined for 20 hits in the first five innings, trading prodigious drives and leads. The Indians (3-2) actually had the loudest ninth-inning drives as Scott Sheldon and Dave Krynzel sent Jose Parra's pitches to the warning track in center. The Tides' Esix Snead caught up to both, slamming into the wall padding to grab Krynzel's shot. "All we needed was five more feet on those last two," Indians hitting coach Bobby Randall said later to manager Cecil Cooper. Krynzel, one of the Indians' prized Triple-A prospects, was pumped up to play in his first Victory Field game. He doubled and scored in the first inning and gave the hosts a brief lead with a two-run homer to right in the third. "That's baseball," Krynzel said of the deciding hit. "It was a damn good game to play in and watch." Most of the nine pitchers used by the two teams probably disagreed. Typically, this early in the season, cold temperatures will give pitchers the edge over hitters. "When it's cold," said Cooper, a former Milwaukee Brewers slugger, "you don't want to hit." But when Krynzel arrived at Victory Field, he was ready. The warm conditions and the major league-like smorgasbord for the team's pregame meal helped set the mood. "It just made everything real fun," he said. "I wish we won. "When I got here, it was like, 'I feel good.' That's the first thing that I was thinking. It definitely put a different perspective on at-bats." The Tides (3-3) had the biggest early hit on Brazell's two-run homer in the fifth. Jacobs had three hits and three runs scored. Eighth-hitting shortstop Wilson Delgado enjoyed a four-hit game. Krynzel, Sheldon, Jeff Liefer and Luis Figueroa each had two-hit games for the Indians. The hitting assault -- Norfolk had 15 -- was in contrast to the Indians' trend in their first four games when they hit .205 as a team but had a sparkling 2.20 ERA. Tides right-handed reliever P.J. Bevis (1-0) survived a shaky eighth to get the victory. He allowed two hits and walked a batter but was rescued by right fielder Victor Diaz, who threw out Liefer at the plate to end the inning. Parra shook off the long drives for a 1-2-3 ninth and his first save. "It was a great day for playing baseball," Cooper said. "The strength of this team will be pitching, so I'm not concerned." The upbeat Krynzel, so enthused afterward that he lifted weights, clung to the day's positives. "The field was awesome and the grass even smelled like grass," he said. "It was a fun day." 9. Final: Rancho Cucamonga (Angels) 8, High Desert 4 Nice job out of the pen by RHP David Bradley and LHP Craig Breslow; OF Dan Boyd has hit safely in all eight games... High Desert Site Game Summary: JOE MILLIONAIREAn early seven-run deficit proved to be too much for the High Desert Mavericks to dig out of, as the Mavs were unable to mount a serious rally against Rancho Cucamonga Quakes pitcher and former Anaheim Angels first-round pick Joe Saunders in the Mavericks? 8-4 loss to the Quakes before 1,136 at Mavericks Stadium on Thursday night. Saunders (2-0), who signed a colossal $1.825 million contract with the Angels around the 2002 draft day, kept the Mavericks at bay by allowing only two runs on four hits along with two strikeouts in six innings of work. Rancho Cucamonga (5-2) tallied seven runs in the first two innings off High Desert (2-6) starter Bo Hall (0-1), beginning with three in the first inning on an Erick Aybar RBI triple, a Michael Napoli RBI sacrifice-fly, and Zach Cates reaching safely on a fielding error by Hall, allowing Greg Porter to score. The Mavs surrendered four more runs in the second inning, two coming off the bat of Ransel Melgarejo?s two-run homer, one from Greg Porter?s RBI single, and one from Ryan Budde reaching safely on an error by Callix Crabbe. High Desert got on the board with two runs in the fourth off Saunders, when a red-hot Dan Boyd continued his torrid hitting pace by cashing in Jeff Eure and Travis Hinton on a one-out, two-run double to right to cut the Quakes lead to 7-2. After Rancho Cucamonga added a run in the seventh, the Mavs struck back with two more runs in the bottom of the inning off reliever David Austen, when Ozzie Chavez showed signs of breaking out of his recent hitting slump by knocking down a two-run single to right, cutting the deficit to 8-4. The Mavericks were unable to mount a serious threat afterwards, as Austen and Matt Wilhite combined retire the last eight batters of the game following Chavez? single. Boyd led the Mavericks hitting attack with an impressive 2-for-4 evening at the plate, collecting two RBI?s. Ransel Melgarejo led the Quakes with a 2-for-5 effort, tallying two RBI?s and two runs. Rancho Cucamonga, whom the Mavericks will face in seven consecutive games next week, takes the four-game series at Mavericks Stadium 3-1. The Mavs look to get back on the winning track Friday night against the Bakersfield Blaze, commencing a three-game series with the Blaze and marking the only regular-season trip Bakersfield will make out to Mavericks Stadium. Khalid Ballouli (1-1) will take the hill for High Desert against Bakersfield?s Nick DeBarr (0-1). High Desert Box Score: At some point they'll get Jeremy Frost's first name right in the box scores... 13. A bit of a thumbs down to Indy management; looks like they're relying on the mini and neutral Sports Network game summary for their web site rather than a detailed post-game report written by Indy staff http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif Indianapolis Game Summary: Mike Jacobs scored on a Craig Brazell double in the top of the ninth to give Norfolk a 7-6 win over Indianapolis. Brazell finished the game 2-for-5, including a two run home run, and three RBI. Jacobs went 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI. Wilson Delgado had a perfect day at the plate with four hits in four at-bats, including two doubles, a run scored, and an RBI. P.J. Bevis (1-0) pitched one inning and got the win. He held the Indians scoreless on two hits. Chris Michalak (1-1) gave up one run on three hits in the ninth inning. 14. Swinging and missing Carolina combo tosses first no-hitter against Stars since 1996 By MARK McCARTER Times Sports Staff markcolumn@aol.com There were two conga lines of congratulations, Carolina players moving in opposite directions between the dugout and the pitcher's mound. Somewhere along the way, catcher Josh Willingham came upon his manager, Ron Hassey. "Hass, ever caught one of those?'' Willingham, the Florence native and former University of North Alabama star, said with a laugh. "One of those'' being a no-hitter, which a pair of Mudcats pitchers - Trevor Hutchinson and Kevin Cave - had just perpetrated on the Huntsville Stars Wednesday afternoon, the opener of a 5-0, 5-1 doubleheader sweep. Willingham already knew Hassey's answer, and you can, too, in case it comes up next time in Trivial Pursuit. Hassey is the only man to have caught two perfect games in the big leagues, by Cleveland's Len Barker in 1981 and Montreal's Dennis Martinez in 1991. For all of Hassey's history, he is more a pragmatist than a sentimentalist. This is not a man you imagine hanging around the Hallmark store, trying to pick out just the perfect card. After Hutchinson completed the sixth inning, Hassey walked over to him in the dugout and said, "Nice job. You're done.'' What? Yank The Rolling Stones off the stage before they can do "Jumpin' Jack Flash"? Hold an opera, and skip the fat lady? Have CBS change its top show to "50 Minutes"? Turns out, Hutchinson was on a pitch count of 75 to 80 pitches. He reached 72 after six innings. "It's so early in the season and it was a close game. I totally understand,'' Hutchinson said. "We're in the first month of the season, it was his second outing, it was a seven-inning game (as doubleheader games are in the Southern League), there's no reason to risk it,'' Hassey said. As things happen around Joe W. Davis Stadium, both the scoreboard - to be replaced in mid-May - and public address system zonked out in the first game, so many were unaware of the no-hitter in progress. In fact, there was a caravan of buses with school kids leaving in the seventh inning, perhaps headed back to readin', writin' and 'rithemetic, but deprived of history. Hassey called upon Cave, who couldn't have been more nervous than his catcher. "I knew what was going on. I was thinking basically, 'Don't call the wrong pitch.' I had never been in that situation before,'' Willingham said. After Cave walked Rickie Weeks to lead off the seventh, he retired Prince Fielder and Brad Nelson on bouncers to first and then struck out Chris Barnwell to wrap up the no-hitter. Hutchinson, whose brother Chad is the Dallas Cowboys' backup quarterback, admits to being the restless type. He had gone to the clubhouse to have an ice bag on his shoulder, but watched the final three outs from the steps of the runway leading to the dugout. Hutchinson has pretty much clinched a spot on Huntsville's All-Time All-Opponent team. Witness his last three appearances against the Stars: 6 2/3 innings of three-hit shutout pitching in Game 1 of the 2003 Southern League Championship Series Five innings of three-hit pitching, with one run allowed, to win the final game of the playoffs and earn the series MVP honors (plus a pair of hits himself) Six innings of no-hit pitching on Wednesday with five strikeouts His killer pitch is a sinker. "He's got that one pitch that nobody really, probably only four or five starters in the big leagues have, that real good sinker,'' said Hassey. "He'll be a sinker-slider guy till he dies,'' said Willingham, whose seventh-inning two-run home run was one of three on the day against the Stars. Perhaps it's only modesty - or perhaps something even more alarming for the linguini bats in the Stars' rack - but Hutchinson didn't think he had his best stuff. "I was battling myself more than I was thinking about a no-hitter,'' he said. This was the first Southern League no-hitter since Orlando's Chad Gaudin's perfect game last July 15, and the first for Carolina since April 9, 2003, when Ryan Snare, Steve Kent and Ryan Baker combined to beat Mobile. The last time the Stars were no-hit was June 1, 1996, by Chattanooga's Travis Buckley. The Stars haven't had a no-hitter since Tanyon Sturtze on June 13, 1993, against the Lookouts. For a long while, it seemed a double no-hitter might occur. Barnwell finally popped a fourth-inning single in the second game of the doubleheader, ending a string of 14 2/3 hitless innings, going back to Monday's loss. The Stars (3-4) sent 54 men to the plate between base hits. Thus a home stand that began with such promise ended with four-game losing streak and a sweep by the Mudcats. The Stars finish their first seven games with a .201 team batting average. Weeks is 0-for-13 since his 6-for-8 start. Fielder has three hits in 23 at-bats. Tony Gwynn Jr. is 3-for-20. Jason Belcher is 1-for-14. "It's frustrating for them, but I expected this,'' said manager Frank Kremblas. "It's a big adjustment. I was just in (the clubhouse) and I asked Rickie and Tony and Prince, 'What did you guys learn?' "They didn't answer what I'm thinking, that they've got to be ready to go every time. It's not going to get any easier.'' Well, yes it will, in a way. The Stars won't face Trevor Hutchinson, at the earliest, before Aug. 5.

  18. David Weiser's www.starsboxscore.com Huntsville update: PLENTY OF NOTHINGAfter winning the deciding Game Five of the Southern League Championship Series for the Mudcats, throwing six scoreless innings in Game One, and winning the MVP of the series, Trevor Hutchinson returned to stick it to us again......... On a sunny but brisk Wednesday afterrnoon, he combined with reliever Kevin Cave to pitch the first no-hitter at Joe Davis Stadium since June 1, 1996. Hutchinson had little trouble with a troubled offense that was 10-for-60 in their last two losses (to Montgomery and Carolina). The only thing coming close to a hit in the six innings that Hutchinson worked was a wicked two-hopper by Rickie Weeks in the 4th that Joe Dillon took on the short hop, then quickly making an off-balance throw to get the speedy Weeks....... In the 5th inning, Chris Barnwell hit a tricky hopper to Dillon, who had trouble controlling the backspin in his glove. It hopped out, but he was able to catch the ball off the ground on the bounce. But when he fired the ball to first to get the hustling Barnwell, his throw hit the dirt and Dillon was charged with an error. Hutchinson had an 85-pitch limit, but was pulled out by manager Ron Hassey after 72. The way he was pitching, I think he could have retired the Stars in the 7th under or near 13 pitches, making him the first Mudcat pitcher in history to throw a no-hitter without any assistance, but Kevin Cave came on in the 7th and after walking Weeks on a 3-2 pitch, got Prince Fielder on a tapper halfway between the mound and the first base line unassisted, then another bouncer back to the mound by Brad Nelson, and finally a strikeout on Barnwell swinging to end the game. The day started out totally polar to Tuesday afternoon's depressing imitation of January....... The skies today were absolutely cloudless, and even though the gametime temperature was 53°, the sun provided extra warmth as long as you were dressed for it (read no short sleeves), and it even warmed the seats. It reached 60° sometime around 3:00 PM ........ Most of the nearly 2,500 who filled the seats were schoolkids who were bused in from Decatur and Chapman Elementray in Huntsville, perhaps other areas, but there was as a good-sized adult crowd as well, a refreshing change from the understandably record low crowd on Monday, anxious to get out of the house after three very miserably cold and rainy days. For the third time in their last four games, the Stars let the other side get the upper hand....... After an error-free Monday, the Mudcats took advantage of a throwing error by catcher Alex Delgado, who trying to throw out leadoff hitter Eric Reed....... His throw sailed east of Rickie Weeks' glove and into right-center field. Reed had no trouble advancing to third........ On a 2-2 pitch, Josh Wilson grounded out to Weeks, acquiescing the run. Although that would be all the scoring for the Mudcats in the 1st inning, it was an adventurous and busy inning for starter Matt Ford, who threw 35 pitches........ With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd, Enrique Cruz tried to short hop Chip Ambres' grounder. Moving in on the play, the ball got in under his glove, and the bases were loaded, but Ford worked himself out of trouble by striking out Jim Kavourias on three pitches. Travis Buckley of Chattanooga threw the last no-hitter seen by Huntsville fans. It came, as I mentioned on June 1, 1996. For Carolina, it was their second no-hitter in as many seasons, and the 3rd in their history. The Mudcats went right to work in the second game, as Jeff Housman had a tougher time than Ford in getting the Mudcats retired in the 1st....... Housman wound up throwing 43 pitches that inning, facing eight batters, and leaving the bases loaded when he struck out catcher Dennis Anderson....... After getting pesky Eric Reed to fly out to Brad Nelson, he was victimized by a single up the middle, a double to right center, a single through the left side, and a walk......... All this producing two runs, enough to decide this game........ Housman reached his pitch limit, would you believe, in the 2nd inning with two out, and was finally removed. By that time, though, he had already allowed another run on Joe Dillon's second double....... Dillon, already hitting .545 with four HRs and eight RBIs this season, added his fourth hit of the day in the 7th, an RBI single to left that made it a 5-1 final. Being shutout for 14 innings is one thing, but when Chris Barnwell singled to left in the 4th inning of this game, it ended an embarrassing string of 14 no-hit innings for the Stars' opponents --- a club record, but the scoring drought for the Stars --- 18 innings --- ended in the 3rd when Kade Johnson scored on a sacrifice fly to center by Ryan Miller. Johnson had reached third on a huge error by right fielder Jim Kavourias, who let a wind-blown fly ball tip off his glove. The Stars had two big scoring opportunites in the second game....... With one out in the 5th, Johnny Raburn's double over the first base bag --- his first hit for Huntsville --- sent pinch-hitter Jason Belcher, who had singled, to third, but both runners were stranded........ Carolina reliever Peter Hartmann came in to strike out Prince Fielder on a slider to end that inning, then used the slider to fan three more Stars' hitters in the 6th....... In the 7th, the Stars loaded the bases against Hartmann on a broken-bat single by Kade Johnson, and subsequent walks to Ryan Knox and Fielder, but facing Randy Messenger, Rickie Weeks grounded out to second baseman Michael Tucker for the third time in the second game. The Stars take a day off, then christen Riverwalk Stadium in Montgomery on Friday........ The game has long been sold out and about 300 SRO tickets have already been sold. Dennis Sarfate (0-0, 4.50) will make his second start for the Stars....... Of the 33 runs the Stars have given up this season, only 22 have been earned........ The Stars have now committed 15 errors in seven games. The record for the first ten games of the season is 21, which was set last year. Eight of the errors have come from the left side of the infield, three from the right side. Pitchers and catchers have made two apiece........ As if that's not bad enough, the Stars are hitting .140 in their last four games. The holy trinity of Weeks, Fielder, and Tony Gwynn, Jr. are 12-for-68 (.176) with seven RBIs and 16 Ks. Gwynn is 3-for-20 with a double and no RBIs...... In spite of his excruciating bungling at shortstop, Enrique Cruz is leading Stars hitters with a .357 average. The Oklahoma Redhawks of the Pacific Coast League had four former Stars in action Wednesday night in a 5-3 win against Iowa --- Pete Zoccolillo, who had two hits, including a double, Dave Newhan (Stars '97), Danny Ardoin (Stars '97-'98), and pitcher John Wasdin (Stars '94)....... Allen Levrault was picked up the Mariners after his release from St. Louis, got the win in San Antonio's 8-0 victory over El Paso in a Texas League game, Wednesday night. Noochie Varner, playing for El Paso, doubled and drove in a run...... Former University of Alabama-Huntsville outfielder David Gates homered twice for the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes as they went on to beat High Desert, 11-8.

  22. Huntsville Site Doubleheader Summary: And look who's your starting pitcher on Friday... Under a welcome blue sky at Joe Davis Stadium, it became clear the reigning Southern League champs are serious about defending their title. Carolina swept two from host Huntsville, including a combined no-hitter in game one. Victories of 5-0 and 5-1 gave the Mudcats (5-2) a three-game sweep of the Stars (3-4), who have lost four straight games to fall out first place in the Southern League West. Trevor Hutchinson (2-0) - a Stars tormenter in the last year's league final - tossed six no-hit innings to secure his second win, and closer Kevin Cave finished off the no-no with a hitless seventh to secure the 5-0 shutout. It was Carolina's third no-hitter and first since April of 2003. Hutchinson fanned four while allowing just two baserunners on a walk and an error. Cave walked the leadoff hitter in the seventh, but Huntsville's best bid for a hit in the inning, Brad Nelson's one-out come-backer, caromed off Cave, who ran it down and threw out Nelson. Carolina broke up a taught 1-0 game with Chip Ambres' run-scoring, sixth-inning double and a pair of seventh-inning homers, Jimmy Goelz's solo drive and Josh Willingham's two-run shot. Huntsville lefty Matt Ford (1-1) suffered the loss, permitting one run on four hits and three walks with two strikeouts in three innings. In game two, the Mudcats raced to a 3-0 lead as Jason Stokes and Jim Kavourias knocked in first-inning runs, and Joe Dillon doubled home another in the third. Dillon finished the doubleheader a perfect 5-for-5 with two doubles, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Huntsville scored its only run of the series in the third, with the help of Kavourias' drop in rightfield. Kade Johnson's drive carried to the wall, where Kavourias had it glance off his glove for a three-base error. Ryan Miller's sacrifice fly plated Johnson to get the Stars within two. With Carolina still up 3-1 in the seventh, Pat Magness launched a pinch-hit solo homer and Dillon singled in his final run to cap the scoring. Pete Hartman (1-0) picked up the win, fanning three in 1 1/3 innings of one-hit relief. Jeff Housman (0-1) absorbed the defeat, permitting three runs on five hits and two walks while fanning four over 1 2/3 innings. After the Stars rest Thursday, Huntsville righty Tim Bausher makes his first start of the season on Friday against the Biscuits in the first-ever game at Montgomery's brand-new Riverwalk Stadium. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Stars baseball can be heard on ESPN 1450 WTKI or on the web at www.huntsvillestars.com. The broadcast begins at 6:50 p.m. with the FPH Financial Pre-game show.

  24. Quite the numbers from the Carolina site: The Carolina Mudcats tossed their third no-hitter in franchise history, then watched Joe Dillon go 4-4 in the nightcap as the Mudcats swept two games from the Huntsville Stars 5-0 and 5-1 at Joe Davis Stadium on Wednesday afternoon. Trevor Hutchinson (W, 1-0) and Kevin Cave combined on the opening game no-hitter for the Mudcats, their first since April 9, 2003 against Mobile. Dillon made two sparkling defensive stops in the game to set up club history. In the seventh, Cave kicked down a blast from Brad Nelson for the second out of the inning, denying the Stars' first hit. Eric Reed went 3-4 in the opener, scoring the game's first run in the first inning after singling, stealing second, taking third on an overthrow and scoring on a grounder by Josh Wilson. Leading 2-0 in the seventh, Jimmy Goelz hit his fourth career homerun to right-center, followed four batters later by a two-run blast to right-center by Josh Willingham. In the nightcap, Carolina (5-2) jumped on Jeff Housman in the first inning for two runs. Jason Stokes singled home Wilson with one out, then a bases loaded walk from Housman issued to Jim Kavourias forced Dillon home. Huntsville (3-4) did not pick up its first hit of the day until the fourth inning of game two, a two-strike single by Chris Barnwell coming off of Nic Ungs. Ungs worked 4 2/3 innings, but could not qualify for the win. Pete Hartmann (W, 1-0) notched the win from the bullpen by fanning four over 1 1/3 innings, including Prince Fielder with two on and two out in the fifth inning, guarding a 3-1 lead. Dillon went 5-5 in the doubleheader, reaching his two other plate appearances by a walk and hit batsman and is hitting .565 (13-23) for the season. The Mudcats held the Stars vaunted offensive quartet of Fielder, Tony Gwynn Jr., Nelson and Rickie Weeks to 2-35 with no RBI in the series. The Stars offense collectively batted just .092 (7-76) in the three-game sweep to Carolina, and was outscored by the Mudcats 15-1. Huntsville's lone run in the series came on a sacrifice fly by pitcher Ryan Miller in the third inning of game two.
  25. Final, Game One: Carolina (Marlins) 5, Huntsville 0, seven innings Final, Game Two: Carolina 5, Huntsville 1, seven innings Stars have scored one run on seven hits in last 23 innings... Game One Recap: Huntsville, AL (Sports Network) - Trevor Hutchinson and Kevin Cave combined on the minor league's second no-hitter of the season, as the Carolina Mudcats blanked the Hunstville Stars, 5-0, in game one of a doubleheader. It was the third no-hitter in Mudcats history. On Monday, two pitchers from the Single-A Burlington Bees - Dusty Hughes and Jake Mullis - shutout the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, 1-0. Hutchinson (1-0) pitched the first six innings, while Cave struck out Chris Barnwell for the final out and the no-hitter. Hutchinson threw over 70 pitches in six innings and was lifted for a pinch-hitter. Several defensive standout plays helped keep the no-hitter in tact, as Joe Dillon made a great leaping catch in the third inning and a heads-up play in the fourth to throw out Rickie Weeks. Also, in the seventh, Cave played hockey goaltender and stopped a one-out shot off his right foot to prevent a possible base hit by Brad Nelson. Game One Box and Log not available as of "post time"... Game Two Recap: Huntsville, AL (Sports Network) - Joe Dillon collected four hits and drove in two runs and Eric Reed added three hits, as the Carolina Mudcats completed a doubleheader sweep of the Huntsville Stars, 5-1.
