  1. Positives for today's game, Fielder's home run and Parra's relief performance. Now, if the Brewers can actually score some runs late in a game where they score early, get another come back win... that would be great. Glad to see Perez out of there.
  2. Yesterday's win may end up coming at the expensive of today's game. If the Brewers had been able to win the game when they had the chance before the game went to extra innings, Bush doesn't pitch and thus starts today. If Bush starts today, maybe the Brewers are still winning this game. And it is getting frustrating seeing the Brewers score early, then nothing of late.
  3. From the little I've been able to explore, I like it. Will the chat room capacity still be 25?
  4. I would have thought Gwynn, Jackson, and one of the A or A+ OF would have been a better deal than what Boston got. I would have done that if I was Melvin. Looks like Melvin was willing to do that and possible more, but Texas accepted Boston's offer instead. "After Melvin exchanged ideas with Texas general manager Jon Daniels Monday night and again Tuesday morning, a proposed deal was reached. The Brewers would send outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr., left-hander Zach Jackson (9-7, 4.69 earned run average at Class AAA Nashville) and another minor-leaguer to the Rangers for Gagne. "We had a deal on the table," Melvin said. "We didn't want to bid against ourselves but we were prepared to up our offer. (Daniels) told me, 'We're seriously considering your offer.' We thought we had a chance. "When he didn't come back and ask for more, that's when I got the feeling (Gagne) was going to Boston. At 2 o'clock they called us and said Gagne had approved the deal to Boston. I had anticipated that was a possibility.." www.jsonline.com/story/in...?id=641126
  5. Here are the details, according to ESPN The Braves sent Saltalamacchia, slick-fielding shortstop Elvis Andrus and three more minor league pitchers -- right-hander Neftali Feliz, left-hander Matt Harrison and left-hander Beau Jones -- to Texas for Teixeira and left-handed reliever Ron Mahay.
  6. According to ESPN the Dotel to Braves deal for Kyle Davies has gone down. Once the Teixeira became official, the Dotel trade was finally completed as well.
  7. Would the Nationals be interested in Gwynn for Cordero? Cordero got off to a bad start, but since May 15th he is 17 for 20 in save situations and more importantly in the Month of July he is 7 for 8 with a 1.38 ERA.
  8. Brewers lineup today, C. Hart rf J.J. Hardy ss R. Braun 3b P. Fielder 1b B. Hall cf G. Jenkins lf J. Estrada c R. Weeks 2b Y. Gallardo p
  9. I'm not going to be able to catch the game where I live, so I'll miss seeing Parra start. However according to the Brewers Web site the first game should be on WMLW 41.
  10. Just heard on WSSP that according to Adam McCalvy, though he did not actually talk on the air, the trade is probably going to be for a minor league player. No names were mentioned.
  11. Lineup for today according to JSOnline and WSSP Hart RF Hardy SS Braun 3B Fielder 1B Hall CF Mench RF Estrada C Graffanino 2B Vargas P
  12. Any word on why Hart and Hardy are both sitting, besides our own speculations. Maybe Yost is upset with how Suppan has pitched of late. Pitch better Soup or this is the lineup you'll have for the rest of the year. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Doesn't matter who is pitching against the Brewers tonight as the Brewers have one ugly lineup in there that is probably going to struggle to score.
  13. With Linebrink not being with the team till Friday, he'll be well rested. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. Actually, unless the Brewers are going to stick with 13 pitchers till the end of August, two pitchers will eventually have to be sent out, so both Balfour and Spurling will probably eventually go. On Inman, he's the top Brewer prospect in the minors and is only 20 years old pitching in double A. It's not unusual for a pitcher that young to start off slowing in a higher level league. Like I wrote earlier, if they had gotten Gagne from Texas, then I would be really excited, but I'm not so sure how much better Linebrink is going to make them.
  15. I don't have a problem with Melvin trading away minor leaguers to help the team and if we were getting the Linebrink of a couple years ago or say Gagne from Texas then I would like this trade much better. However a couple things worry me. One, why would a team in a dogfight give up one of it's bullpen arms for 3 minor leaguers that probably aren't going to be of help to them this year. Two, the following from the article that was linked here, "Linebrink's blown save on Monday -- his sixth of the season -- was the latest in a series of missteps for the right-handed reliever, who has already allowed as many home runs this season (nine) as he did all of last season. Linebrink is tied with three other pitchers for the Major League lead in blown saves." Right now I would have to say that Linebrink is the 5th most effective pitcher in the bullpen behind Cordero, Turnbow, Villy and Wise. But, I want nothing more than for Linebrink to come in and pitch lights out. And we'll at least get back a high draft pick for him at the end of the season. EDIT: Interesting to see that the Padres are going to put Thatcher on the big league roster. On the vesting option thing, whatever it is the following was mentioned on JSOnline, "Linebrink is a free agent after the season and thus considered a "rental" in the trade business. But Melvin noted he is a Type A free agent, meaning the Brewers would get draft picks in return should he go elsewhere after the season."
  16. I still think they gave up way too much for a rental and a rental that isn't pitching all that well at the moment. However, to try to take a look at the positives, 2 of his last 3 outings have had a real effect on his overall numbers. 1 and 2/3 innings where he gave up 7 runs which jumped his ERA from 2.55 to 3.80. So, hopefully he's just having a bad week.
  17. Linebrink signed a 2 year deal in 2005, so he should be a free agent after the year is up.
  18. I think they gave up too much, but I hope it works out well.
  19. The Brewers must really be regretting calling up Balfour right now as he has already lost 2 games in the very short time with them. It's too bad he has no more options and will probably be picked up by another team if he gets cut. However, the Brewers can't afford to wait around for Balfour to find himself. And can we please no longer bat Estrada in the 5th spot.
  20. The Brewers probably are going to have to score this inning as if they don't, they'll probably either bring in Spurling, who is still probably pretty rusty or Balfour.
  21. Don't know if this was mentioned as I haven't gone through the whole thread, but the Reds telecast of the game showed that the Brewers are the second worst team in the N.L. at hitting with runners in scoring position and two outs, hitting only .213. Only the Nats are worse at .211.
  22. Okay, I see. For whatever reason when I checked out Kevin Mench stats on the ESPN Web site, they didn't have any at bats listed against Harang, but when I looked up Harang, they had the stats against Mench.
  23. Why is Mench playing against the right hander Harang instead of Gwynn. As far as I could find, Mench doesn't have an at bat against Harang, so it's not like he has a history of hitting well against him. And the Weeks situation is a bit uncertain at the moment. A few days ago he was going to be benched, then he plays and is put in the leadoff spot to shake things up yesterday. It actually works, so what does Ned do the following day, go back to the lineup that has been slumping and bat Mench against a right hander. And wasn't Hart put in the 6th spot in the lineup to have someone who can drive in runs in that spot. Which of course all means the Brewers will probably score a ton of runs today. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. Brewers lineup according to WSSP: 2B Weeks SS Hardy 3B Braun 1B Fielder RF Mench CF Hart C Estrada LF Graffanino P Vargas
  25. Ballgame. Hate to say this, but Balfour stuff reminds me of Capellan.
