    Phillips had absolutely no control and nothing going for him that inning and we still managed nothing even resembling a rally from this anemic offense.

    I don't know who bears the ultimate blame for the perennial offensive ineptitude of this team, but it's a true organizational embarrassment from top to bottom. Corbin Burnes deserves better than this.

    Look, winning the division is cool if we can get it. It's an accomplishment. It's something. But it's nearly impossible to see this team giving the Braves or Dodgers even a remotely competitive series. I think in '18, and '21, it pretty much felt like, we've got a shot to make some noise in the playoffs. This year is a little different. It'd be great to get in, and maybe we could even win a series, but the road ends there.

    They have basically not had Woodruff or Ashby this year and are still in first place. Yeah, it's going to suck but they will get Ashby back, Gasser and Rodriguez look promising and they have some pieces to give them better offense to support them. Of course it is going to hurt but Hook deserves more credit than he gets for the pitching development. They will be ok.

    Try to be competitive enough to make the playoffs every year for as long as possible and hope they get hot at the right time one of those years and ride it all the way. That's the plan. We will always be at a competitive disadvantage. I'm not saying we can never win a World Series, but we will always be at a competitive disadvantage. That's the reality. Hopefully you can see the Brewers win a WS in your lifetime but it won't come without luck. There's nothing we could have done this year to make us more statistically likely to win it all than the Braves, and probably the Dodgers. Nothing. And then you're mortgaging future years just for a little better chance against teams that still have the edge.

    There's no one that they could have acquired even if they traded all 5 prospects that would have made them better than the Braves. They've still got some pretty good foundational pieces for the future in their system even if they lose Woodruff and Burnes. I'd rather roll with who we got and be patient with the prospects rather than offer a clear overpay just move the needle some and still need a lot of luck to get past the Braves or Dodgers. I don't want to enter a 5 year rebuild after 2024.

    I hope Lutz was wise with his 2.5Mish signing bonus, and there is no sarcasm in that statement. There's plenty of reminders out there that no matter how highly touted, it's really hard to get to the show and many don't make it.

    The worst deal is the one that Arnold didn't make. Candelario was available and a strong offer would have brought him in. He'd arguably be the best hitter in our lineup without even stinging the system much. Given what he went for and who he ended up going to, hard not to say that not being more aggressive for Candelario was a bad miscalculation for Arnold that could very well end up costing his team the division.

    It blows my mind how fast this board changed its tune on Luis Urias. Just last year he was a 3.1 WAR player. Just a few short months ago some had him pegged as team MVP. The consensus from most is that he was a key cog of our infield, we won the Grisham trade, etc. etc. Literally a mere 55 ABs later returning from a significant injury and now we're just thrilled to have him gone for anything we can get.

    I'm tempering my optimism on Blalock a lot more than most. He's coming off a major injury and just made High A at age 22. He was the 43rd ranked prospect in the Red Sox system. He's about as much of a lottery ticket as a prospect can get. If we had sold Urias for Blalock 4 months ago, this board would have surrounded Arnold's house with pitchforks.

    Really dislike this. Was he just a total malcontent in Nashville or something? A few months ago, this guy looked like one of our infield building blocks, and we already are thin on middle infielders. A couple rough months and we end up basically just giving him away? Hate it. It Turang was impressing I would sort of get it but yeah...I don't understand this at all.

    The Brewers know exactly what we know. They aren't talented enough, especially on offense, to make a deep playoff run likely, but they have some pieces a year or two away that are pretty promising. So their strategy reflects that, low cost moves with really no risk that might patch up the really weak points, but nothing major. They know they're probably not going anywhere and weren't one major piece away from becoming anything close to the NL favorite. They did enough to at least give them a shot at the division and see what happens from there. I think it's more likely than not that Burnes is on the move in the offseason.

    This is why the Cardinals are always out there on their own little island oblivious to the fact that the entire world hates them. Perhaps it is not 1986 anymore and we should no longer accept throwing an object at a high rate of speed in retaliation as acceptable going forward (and even it you do accept it as normal, what an asinine reason for "retaliation" in this instance.)

    He's got a Craig Counsell type ceiling. Might be able to skate through and have a long MLB career on the strength of defense and positional versatility. I'm not concerned because my expectations weren't very high. Just one of those 1st round picks that never really lived up to the billing, while also not being a bust, because hey he did make it here. But is he ever going to be a core player, no he is not.

    Bucks couldn't really do anything else other than run it back with their core, so keeping it together with Middleton and Lopez was the correct choice. As others have said I think there's a 2 year window here to try to win another ship and then the Bucks are in for some very lean rebuilding years. They will attempt to keep Giannis of course, but I think his mind is all but made up to play out his contract here and then take his talents elsewhere for a change.

    So I guess the only real difference here is that if Love is the guy, he gets an additional 2.3M in 2024 while they presumably work out an extension, and if he blows so massively that they have to move on after 2023, they save about 6.7M versus if they had just picked up the option. Personally if you're confident in the guy I don't know why you don't just pick up the option rather than hedge your bet like this. If they were going to go this route I would have rather giving him a little bigger signing bonus and tried to secure an extra year of control in '25.

    I haven't heard/seen any extension talk on Love. Any links to this? I'd just be curious. An extension right now doesn't make much sense to me. Would think the Packers would want to see what they have first before committing. Maybe a 2 year extension after this year like you suggested would make sense though? A guaranteed signing bonus of 20M or so might sound good to Love and the Packers could potentially get some cap friendly numbers in '24 and '25 if he pans out. Maybe that IS the delay. "Take this deal or we're going to decline your option and if you suck this year you'll be looking around for a cheap backup job somewhere next year." In much nicer words, of course.

    Still no decision on Love's 5th year option. If they aren't willing to commit 20M or so to him for 2024, in a QB market where Daniel Jones types get 40M a year, they are not nearly as confident in him as they've implied.

    I'm assuming it's a near certainty that the Packers will pick up the 5th year option on Love. It's not ideal with the information they have, but they are pretty much hitching their wagon to him for at least the next 2 seasons anyway. May as well just go that route rather than do what the Giants did and miscalculate and end up paying more with no leverage on Jones other than the franchise tag.

    4-7 would be interesting. That's about 64.7% but could wind up on either side of 65. My assumption is that they'd still go for it, they have too much invested not to, unless Rodgers was somehow so disastrous that they had a good excuse to switch. The Jets have a pretty good defense and some good skill players on offense so I doubt this is a factor though.
