    In my lifetime it was a normal thing for a woman to run out onto the field during games and kiss a random player on the lips. That seems wild now.

    Cubs gotta be frustrated. We fell behind in every game, they had a really good series against the Twins and pounded them today and not only did they not make up any ground, they actually fell back a game.

    0 for 3 with a walk today. Our expectations of him to remain leadoff are essentially that he get on base once a game.

    2nd and 3rd with nobody out in the 6th and coming away with nothing was the killer to this game. The turning point of the entire game really boils down to the 2-0 pitch to Turang that inning. Perez had lost his command entirely and would have gone down 3-0 to Turang who chased a slider out of the zone instead. After that Brice went into swing mode and Perez buckled down and found it again.

    Lara should be playing every day. He was called up to play. Frelick is down. He has been fine, not struggling. He looks like a major league hitter. I don’t know what we are doing here. It’s not like he needed a rest.

    Murph was just raving last week about how Christian rode the bus to St. Louis with the coaches, so maybe he can start joining them in some additional roles that don’t involve swinging at a baseball.

    When Ortiz was batting I was really hoping he could reach so we could at least clear Yelich’s spot for next inning. You should never be hoping that you can just clear your leadoff hitter.

    Us a month ago: “Murph, Vaughn should play against righties, he can hit.” Murph: “No, he’s a platoon guy.” Us today: “You’re right Murph, he’s a platoon guy.” Murph: “Oh yeah?”

    Here’s a stat: Since Christian Yelich returned from the IL in early May, he has had 8 total games in which he did not strike out at least once. For perspective, Garrett Mitchell, who is not exactly known for being a low strikeout guy, has 9 such games since the beginning of June (not counting the games where he didn’t record an AB).

    One out into the game and we have half our challenges left. Does Murphy ever even have a conversation with Sanchez about his challenge habits?

    Wait what ? Gosh I hope this is true because I’m going tomorrow. Initially it was listed as Sproat tomorrow and Miz Tuesday.

    Because our 6th best hitter absolutely must hit leadoff every day or it would be disrespectful to him, which pushes everyone else down one.
