  1. Hey Colby why didnt he get drafted sooner?? Was his height his big drawback since it sounds like he throws pretty hard along with having decent secondary pitches.
  2. You look at his minor league numbers and they were usually good,he just can't get big league hitters out.Nice pickup though,if a guy like Franklin can be a servicable pitcher maybe Davis can.
  3. The lack of any upper decks is what keeps deeps bombs from having that oh my god look to them.
  4. Yea this park is horrible for the contest
  5. I just saw the boxscore, another DJ meltdown. The team has plenty of problems besides closer, but at some point the team can accept his failures for so long.Hes just not getting his job done, time to remove him from that role.
  6. Unreal Hunter couldnt lay off a slider to save his life and they go up and in with 2 strikes and hit him. Talk about stupidity
  7. I wouldn't trade Jenkins unless we got an offer that was to good to refuse.Hes signed for next year, see how he finishes this year and starts next year. Then if hes still playing well and healthy start talking extension if Jenks is willing to stay.It then comes down to numbers,if Jenkins accepts a reasonable and fair extension i'd gladly keep him here long term.
  8. A second note...in that situation, managers get thrown out on purpose to try to lite a fire under their team. Yost went out with the intention of getting ejected. I guarantee he told the Ump what was wrong, why his team was upset, then dropped the F-bomb and some other stuff and hit the showers. Good for him. Hopefully this team will come out tomorrow ready to play. Yea that was pretty obvious since he was out there forever,i was waiting for Yost to ask the ump to please throw him out of the game.I was kinda hoping the ump would have just stood there and not ejected him just to make Yost look silly since it's the only thing Yost was trying to do.I wonder how long Yost would have stayed out there if he dropped one F-Bomb after another and the ump just smiled. What fire exactly gets lit in players when they are getting crushed and a manager yells at an ump or kicks dirt on home plate??Do u honestly think it accomplishes anything except getting the manager some air time??
  9. Well, it just got uglier . . Yost and Perez just got ejected. Maybe its just me,but is anything more lame in baseball than managers arguing forever till they get ejected??Then even worse when some old fat manager goes out there and kicks dirt over the plate, they look like a moron in my opinion. Get off the damn field and sit your ass back in the dugout,be useful and eat some sunflower seeds.
  10. True an ugly night One bright note though is we may never have to see Quevedo again in a Brewer uniform tossing up his 83mph fastballs. That might be worth an ugly loss
  11. Watching Quevedo serve up one gopher ball after another i find embarressing also.Between him and Rusch the games are over by the third inning.
  12. Not that Rusch ever was any good, but its obvious by his body language his confidence is shot.I remember when i used to pitch and things went bad, your body gets tight and your thinking when your throwing instead of just pitching. When your a soft thrower like Rusch and he gets all out of wack,he has zero chance to get batters out.He has to be removed for his own sake as much as ours.
  13. My view on what seperates the good GM's from poor ones is very basic, the good ones have a better eye for talent.Sure certain GM's believe in different systems or philosophies, but in the end it all comes down to aquiring the best players your budget allows for and drafting well. A GM like Gillick has stated hes not huge into sabremetrics, while some are.Well the track record for Gillick speaks for itself as it does for Beane. They may follow different ways in builing a franchise, but in the end both have been proven to be consistant winners. It's no fluke that guys like Beane,Gillick,Sabean, and Schuerholz consistantly produce winning teams while others don't.All three of those guys seem to go about things differently to a degree, but in the end their keen eye for talent seperates them from lesser GM's. As for Weeks i'm sure he'll sign eventually, but given he doesnt have the threat of going to college,he doesnt seem to have much leverage against us.Plus sitting out hurts him also since the longer hes out the longer it takes him to reach the majors and get the arby/free agency clock ticking.
  14. You would think if the offers we make are in the right range Weeks wouldnt fight for a long time to get an extra few hundred grand. The sooner he gets playing the sooner he can get better and reach the bigs where the real money is.
  15. Plus maybe if hes a bust as a pitcher maybe he can find a spot with his bat.
  16. What is Weeks gonna do if we offer fair money for his draft slot, sit out the year?? I highly doubt that.
  17. I notice Lastings Milledge seems to have had his draft stock drop quite a bit.I thought i remember earlier in the year he was thought as the best player in the draft, are character issues the reason hes dropping or other high school outfielders have a bigger upside?
  18. Thanx Colby, your far more in touch with this stuff than me.Just from what i've read about him he seems a safer pick than Young and it also seems his upside might be nearly as high. I guess i just fear drafting a high school player this high, even if Young has scary talent.Of the two if you were drafting No.1 would u take Weeks over Young??
  19. It seems the biggest worry about Weeks is the league he plays in isnt very strong, well how poor is the league he plays in?? Has he ever played against better teams and how did he do if he did?? When people say hes still has alot to learn,is it mainly defense or are the concerns the pitching he faced along with not using wood bats??
  20. I remember he was that monster prospect who turned down like 4 million from the Rockies and then i believe the Padres drafted him and he turned down a million from them. Did he ever sign with anybody or is he out of baseball pumping gas somewhere??
  21. Maybe drafting Loewen would come with a bit more risk if hes available to us,,but if he pans out the reward is greater than a position player.Reality is teams cant win without pitching and we certainly wont be signing any top notch free agent starting pitchers. For all the hype Beane gets for his love of OBP,its their drafting of Zito/Mulder thats the key to their small market success.Of course its by no means any lock that Loewen turns out anywhere near as good as Mulder or Zito, but if he did thats a far bigger help than a great hitting secondbaseman. Ive never seen any of these guys play so i cant say with any facts that we should draft one player over another, but without question a stud starter is our biggest need.
