Absolutely. They can contend and will contend in the east as weak as it is. An injury or two will tax them more than most, though. The guy's you mention are nice but realistically, other than Patterson, no better than what they have.

This is why they play the games. Allen and Garnett have played alot of games for their ages. The Celtics also traded a lot of their depth and have a roster full of nobodies behind the "Big Three". Not saying Boston won't be a contender, but to annoint them in the East at this point seems a bit premature.
