  1. Huntsville 2, Birmingham 1. Parker the winner, Stars have a two game lead in the division. You know you love it.
  2. So yeah, back to that "Free Keith Ginter" sermon. The man is unreal. Eddie Perez finally gets a hit!! I was all set to start preaching the FREE KEITH OSIK gospel.
  3. Why ever bat Clayton in this situation? Man, what's with our manager? This is instance number 105 of batting Royce Clayton in a clutch spot with good bench options available.
  4. Speaking of Big Royce Clayton, TWO intentional walks in as many plate appearances. His OBP is soaring. I am sure Yost will praise his pitch selection after the game.
  5. Is it wrong to feel a slight stab of disappointment when Clayton does something right, like hit a homer? I just know it's going to be justification for keeping him in the lineup.
  6. This will be the second instance in the last week that the "In The Minors" portion of the JS Brewer Report features up-to-date scores from both Indy and Huntsville while listing yesterday's score from Beloit. It's very confusing, and I can't imagine it's too difficult to A) just get TODAY's Beloit score or B) mention that this particular score was "from yesterday." I know everyone gets summaries of the minor leagues' performances every day, so they should be able to get things straight.
  7. As all the non-information on the matter would indicate, the word is that Manny Parra did not actually leave the game last night with an injury, he had simply reached pitch count (and wasn't exactly dominating). Great seasons by Jason Baker and Bo Hall for the most part though, eh?

  9. Don't have the answer, but let's revisit some of our favorites. Mike Matheny's 1996: .313 AB 204/.243/.342 Rob Deer's 1990: 440 AB .209/.313/.432 Greg Brock's 1988: 364 AB .212/.329/.310 Franklin Stubbs' 1991: 362 AB .213/.282/.359 Jose Valentin's 1995: 338 AB .219/.293/.402 Greg Vaughn's 1990: 382 AB .220/.280/.432 Sean Berry's 1999: 259 AB .228/.281/.301 Bill Spiers' 1993: 340 AB .238/.302/.303 Kevin Reimer's 1993: 437 AB 249/.303/.394 Jeffrey Hammonds' 2002: 448 AB .257/.332/.397 Ah, memories... Edit: Should the third number be ops instead of slg? I think I am a statistical loser.

  15. I think I'm missing something, but why is it such a big deal to have Weeks signed for 2003? Is it just so that we can have him at the majors a couple weeks sooner than he otherwise would have been? If people are right about Weeks, he's going to benefit us for a long time, and given that he was a college player, we aren't talking about eons until he starts paying major league dividends. It seems to be the norm for first and second overall choices to sign late in the year, like shortly after the season, so as long as we sign him, what's the rush?
  16. deeswan-- Yeah, story goes that when Kaukauna was the "Tigers" back in the day, they had a stud running back who beat up on some local team (probably Kimberly) on a foggy day. Newspapers had it penned that the guy looked like a "galloping ghost" through the fog. The story always sounded a bit idealistic to me, but at least my old high school had a unique nickname. Of course, they also had black and orange as colors, eeek.
  17. Does it feel like a foregone conclusion to anyone else that we are going to blow this game? EDIT: Feels good to be wrong.
  18. Great start offensively and another error by Royce Clayton! Richie should have had it, but it's always nice to see Royce doing his best to play himself out of the lineup. Bill Schroeder talking about how Lloyd McClendon is trying to bring Randall Simon along early in his career? Um, Randall has been in the league since 1997, and this would be his fourth full season in the bigs...is this still early in his career? Double for Helms, his 15th...nice to see. Also glad to know that Scott Podsednik walked in the first and took the drama out of this on-base streak early.
  19. Nah...clearly they served sedatives with the beer because this crowd is completely subdued. Do they realize that they are watching an all-star game? I like how Tim McCarver glossed it over by saying they are "quiet but anticipatory." I would be less afraid of fans coming out of the stands and more afraid of a foul ball striking a sleeping fan. Or good god, a pitch coming at my head.... Edit: to repair the spelling on "glossed." It looked too much like SOLVDD.
  20. Eighth inning, bases loaded, two outs, down by 5 and Royce Clayton due up. We know Kieschnick is coming in because he is warming up in th bullpen. We know Cruz is coming in after Clayton because he is in the on deck circle, and since he is an automatic out, whatever happens in the Clayton at bat is it for offense this inning. Big Boppers could be due up in the ninth. Right handed pitcher. What do I do? I pinch hit BROOKS KIESCHNICK for god sake. Trot him in from the bullpen to hit, call time, do whatever it takes, but keep that anti-clutch Clayton OUT of this situation!! Put Cruz in defensively...god knows he can hold his own with the glove anyway and with him hitting next and down we have NOTHING TO LOSE by removing Clayton's so-called great defense from the game. Good grief. why why why why why? At some point management have to REALIZE that he is NOT going to ever drive in the runs in this situation. Second night in a row he is INEXPLICABLY left in for a key moment. He was not the only reason we lost tonight, not by a long shot, but what in the WORLD is going on here? We'd rather have Brooks leading off with nobody on in the ninth than in this situation? Sure, if he doesnt reach, Cruz bats in the top of the next inning but hey, we're out of it anyway if we dont get something in the eighth. I will never understand this past week's coaching.
  21. I imagine Coco's last stinker of an outing was partially a product of the team choosing Burba over him to fill the void ont he big league roster. Seriously, the fact that Burba is pitching for the Brewers while Coco sits there in AAA is a joke. Not that our resident thief will dominate the majors, but he at least has a chance of becoming a serviceable starter/long reliever for a long period of time whereas Burba...could be friends with my dad.
  22. So EY, remember when I was talking about your veteran leadership in an earlier post? Well, I really meant it. I look at it now and I can see how someone would see it as being sarcastic, but no, I meant it. Great job with that two out single tonight and couple SBs, and hey, heckuva job yesterday on that game-tying HR. Heh. Good win, in any event.
  23. Royce Clayton. Thank god we have that glove in the middle of our...oh wait, error...damn. Well at least he has good power numbers? Oh wait...I was reading the wrong column. You know what else is great? Eric Young's veteran leadership. Sure, he drops that routine throw to second and lets the runner go to third, but I am glad we have him starting everyday to provide some stability. Bitter mode. It arrives, much later in the season this time around, waiting until July. Yay for such things.
  24. Bagwell tags and go to second...Schroeder and Sutton insist that it was a non-chalant throw by Podsednik...but it didn't look like that to me...it looked like Eric Young just couldn't handle the throw? Are they watching the same tape? 2 run dinger...god i hate enron. Excuse me, Minute maid park.
  25. The ruuuuuumoooorrr is that Vanden Berg will be good to go tonight.
