Final: South Bend (D-Backs) 2, Wisconsin 1 (10 Innings) South Bend comes back to snap Rattlers win streak Silver Hawks get one in ninth and one in tenth for 2-1 decision By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers SOUTH BEND, IN - Drew Gagnon worked six scoreless innings and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers got to within two outs of making a 1-0 lead hold up for a sixth straight victory. But, the South Bend Silver Hawks had other ideas on Sunday at Coveleski Stadium. South Bend tied the game in the ninth and won in the tenth on an Ender Inciarte RBI single. South Bend's 2-1 ten inning win ended Wisconsin's winning streak at five games. Carlos George put Wisconsin (10-7) up 1-0 with an RBI single in the top of the second inning. Greg Hopkins singled with one out and took second on a wild pitch. George shot a single back through the middle to send Hopkins home with the run. Gagnon made that one run stand through six innings. He allowed three hits and a walk and struck out two. South Bend's main threats against Gagnon came in the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, the first two batters reached on singles and a sacrifice bunt moved the tying and go ahead runs in scoring position. Gagnon got the final two outs on a shallow fly ball to right and a strikeout. Inciarte started the South Bend sixth with a walk. He stole second and took third on a wild pitch with two outs. But, Gagnon preserved the lead by getting the final out on a lazy fly ball to center. Wisconsin reliever Stephen Peterson entered the game in the bottom of the seventh and kept the game 1-0 through the eighth. Peterson got the first out of the ninth inning, but Marc Bourgeois beat him to the first base bag on a grounder to first for an infield single. Bobby Stone was next and his tailor-made double play ball to third went through the legs of Brandon Macias to put runners on first and second with one out instead of ending the game. Peterson hit the next batter to load the bases. South Bend (9-8) tied the game as Niko Gallego sent a slow grounder past the mound. Wisconsin got the force at second, but Gallego beat the throw to first to let Bourgeois score the tying run. Stone kept running on the play and thundered around third to try end the game there. Greg Hopkins alertly threw the ball home and catcher Rafael Neda held on after a big collision at the plate to prevent the winning run from scoring in the ninth. Wisconsin's hitters went down quickly in the top of the tenth and South Bend's hitters ended the game quickly in the bottom of the tenth. Chris Ellison singled and stole second base with one out against Seth Lintz. Inciarte singled to left-center, Ellison beat the throw home, and the Silver Hawks celebrated the victory. Game two of the series is Monday night at 6:05pm CDT. Mark Williams (0-1, 2.77) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. South Bend counters with John Pedrotty (0-0, 4.44). Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 5:45pm. WP: DJ Johnson (1-1) LP: Seth Lintz (0-1) TIME: 2:31 ATTN: 1,054 Wisconsin Box Score Gah! Losing that way just stinks. Drew Gagnon had his lowest strike out total of the year but it's difficult to nitpick when he only gave up 4 total baserunners through his 6IP (errors aside). He still has one of the most impressive stat lines through out the entire organization. Seth Lintz... It's way too early in the season to give up on him but he needs to do something positive as he's not striking out anyone and he's been scored upon in 3 of his 5 appearances this year. Wisconsin only had 5 hits as a team so Max Walla and Carlos George were the only Rattlers to put up multiple hit games, each going 2-4. There were no XBHs, George stole his 7th base of the season and Walla was caught stealing. The T-Rats didn't play good defense at all, George committed his 4th error (fielding), Gagnon his 1st (throw), and Brandon Macias his 3rd (fielding). Rafael Neda did gun 1 of the 3 runners who tried to steal a base in the game. Wisconsin Play By Play Not much happened here besides what Chris already discussed above, Gagnon's error came on a PO attempt. South Bend Bottom of the 2nd Matt Helm flies out to left fielder Ben McMahan. Marc Bourgeois reaches on fielding error by second baseman Carlos George. With Bobby Stone batting, Marc Bourgeois advances to 2nd on caught stealing error by Drew Gagnon. Bobby Stone flies out to left fielder Ben McMahan. Roidany Aguila grounds out, first baseman Gregory Hopkins to pitcher Drew Gagnon.

Final: Wisconsin 8, West Michigan (Tigers) 2 Defense leads the way to fourth straight win By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers defeated the West Michigan Whitecaps 8-2 Friday night at Fifth Third Ballpark, but there were some big defensive plays that stood out as the Rattlers won their fourth straight game. Jason Rogers had three hits and the duo of Greg Hopkins and Rafael Neda each had big two-run singles late in the game for the Rattlers. Wisconsin (9-6) took the lead when Rogers scored from third on a wild pitch in the fourth inning. The Rattler appeared to go up 2-0 after a Hopkins sacrifice fly scored Brandon Macias from third on the next pitch. But, the Whitecaps appealed that Macias left early. Plate umpire Carlos Martinez agreed and ruled Macias out. West Michigan (7-8) came back in the bottom of the fourth inning and tied the game when Brandon Loy scored from third on a passed ball. The Rattlers took advantage of some sloppy defense by the Whitecaps in the sixth to score three runs. Carlos George started the inning with a single and went to second on an error by catcher Pat Leyland. Rafael Neda drew a walk. Then, Adrian Williams was called on to drop a sacrifice bunt to move the runners along. The Rattlers got more than they expected on the play. Williams dropped a perfect bunt towards third, but Colin Kaline's throw to first was wild. By the time the ball got back into the infield, George had scored, Neda was on third, and Williams had pulled into second base. The Rattlers added two runs in the fifth on back-to-back sacrifice flies by Yadiel Rivera and Max Walla. Wisconsin starting pitcher Andy Moye worked his way through a jam in the bottom of the fifth to keep Wisconsin up 4-1. Moye allowed an unearned run on six hits with two strikeouts and turned the game over to Jacob Barnes in the sixth. Barnes worked a scoreless sixth thanks to Rivera snaring a line drive and turning the hot shot into an inning ending double play. Barnes also ran into a problem in the bottom of the seventh. A walk was sandwiched between two singles to start the inning. Barnes walked Eugenio Suarez to force in a run to score. But, that was all he gave up in the inning. The Rattlers reliever struck out Dean Green for the first out. Rivera made a leaping backhanded stab of a line drive off the bat of Aaron Westlake for the second out to prevent at least two runs. Barnes got Brandon Loy to ground out sharply to first to end the inning with the Rattlers up 4-2. Whitecaps reliever Ramon Lebron walked the first three batters in the top of the eighth inning on twelve straight pitches. Melvin Mercedes came on to get the first out with a strikeout, but Hopkins drove in two runs with a single. One out later - after Hopkins had stolen second base - Rafael Neda padded Wisconsin's lead to 8-2 with a two-runs single to left. The Rattlers defense had one more flourish to end the game. Suarez singled down the right field line with two outs in the bottom of the ninth and tried to stretch the hit into a double. Right fielder Max Walla fired a strike to Rivera at second base to cut down Suarez for the final out and make Wisconsin's four game winning streak official. Timber Rattlers outfielders have seven assists this season. In the last ten games, Wisconsin has committed just two errors. Game three of the series is Saturday afternoon at 12:00pm CDT. Kevin Shackelford (1-0, 3.00) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. Josue Carreno (0-2, 5.54) is set to start for the Whitecaps. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 11:40am. WP: Andy Moye (1-0) LP: Wilsen Palacios (0-1) TIME: 2:55 ATTN: 1,936 Wisconsin Box Score Despite only allowing 2 runs the Rattler pitched walked almost hitters (3) as they struck out (4) and the T-Rats were actually out hit in the game 9-10. Excellent defense was the difference in this game and it's nice to have Wisconsin coming out on the better end of this type of contest. Unfortunately Max Walla is still hitless as he went 0-3 on the evening, but he did add another walk to his total. Carlos George had a nice night at the plate going 2-4 and both Rogers and Gregory Hopkins each swiped a bag. There were no XBHs for the T-Rats. Wisconsin Play By Play A very busy game log, lots to take in if you are so inclined, there were only 5 "1,2,3" half innings in the contest.

Final: Huntsville 5, Jackson (Mariners) 4 Stars Walkoff in Series Opener Against Generals HUNTSVILLE, Ala- On Friday night, the Huntsville Stars opened up their five-game series against the Jackson Generals with a 5-4 come-from-behind walkoff win at Joe Davis Stadium. The coming from behind part would begin early for the Stars. After a leadoff homerun by Generals OF Denny Almonte on the third pitch of the game began the scoring early, 2-run home from third basemen Johermyn Chavez in the top of the fourth inning gave Jackson an early 3-0 lead off of Stars starting pitcher Brandon Williamson. In terms of the comeback, the Stars began that in the bottom half of the fourth inning when first basemen Hunter Morris plated a run with his Southern League-leading 8th double to make to make the score 3-1. Then, just an inning later, a two-run single by shortstop Jeff Bianchi tied the game up at three apiece. After another solo homerun by Jackson SS Nick Franklin off of Stars RHP Darren Byrd gave Jackson a 4-3 lead in the eight inning, it was Bianchi again who came through. This time, he delivered a two-run single with one out in the ninth inning to give the Stars their first walkoff victory of the season. Pitching wise, RHP Jesus Sanchez improved to 1-0 on the season with a scoreless top half of the ninth inning. For the Generals, RHP Carter Capps was tabbed with his first loss of the season after giving up the eventual game-winning run in the ninth inning. On offense, the story of the night was Bianchi. All in all, the 25-year-old went 4-for-5 at the plate with 4 RBI's and a run scored. For Huntsville, their victory on Thursday gave them their fifth win in six games to start off their 10-game homestand. Game two of a five-game series will take place on Saturday when the Stars will send RHP Tyler Thornburg (1-0, 0.92 ERA) to the mound to face off against LHP James Paxson (1-0, 1.20 ERA). First pitch is at 6:43 PM. Huntsville Box Score As mentioned in the story Stars starter Brandon Williamson struggled with the long ball allowing 2 HRs. His final line was 5IP, 3H, 3ER, 1BB, and 4SO. Darren Byrd only allowed the HR in his 3 innings, he also walked 1 and struck out 4. In addition to the offensive notes above Domnit Bolivar went 2-4 plus a stolen base. Jason Jarmillo also went 2-4, but Jason also added a double and finally Brock Kjeldgaard smacked his own double to round out the XBHs. Khris Davis only got 1 AB being replaced by Lee Haydel after grounding out to 1st to end the Hunstville 2nd. Huntsville Play By Play

How exactly can you rush someone who's already in his 23 year old season and has been pitching in the Brewer's organization since he was 17? AAA is nice for getting innings, and there is a limited amount young players will learn there, but a full season of AAA isn't necessary for MLB success. AAA is almost meaningless from a development standpoint, AAA is actually more of a storage space for MLB depth than it is anything else. The question shouldn't be who has more MLB experience, the question should be which pitcher in the rotation makes the Brewers a better team? Narveson is/was a replaceable talent, as is Estrada, Peralta has the potential to be a top of the rotation starter, he's vastly more talented than Estrada. I'd much rather see what Peralta can do and get his feet wet at the same time rather than recycle Estrada back through the rotation. I'm not opposed to young pitchers working out of the pen to keep their innings down for a couple of weeks before joining the rotation but I'm not a fan of wasting service time by pitching starting pitchers out of the bullpen for an entire season. I'm guessing this will require surgery, ligament tears do not heal on their own, I can see keeping Peralta down in AAA until the end of June to avoid Super 2 status but if that's going to be the case then why call him up now? Generally speaking I don't care about experience much at all, about the only thing I care about is relative talent and giving said talent room to blossom and grow. If Narveson is out for the season and Peralta isn't in the rotation by July then management both on the field and in the front office are foolish. Also, as far as injuries to pitchers go, nothing is worse than a shoulder injury, so here's hoping Narveson is one of the lucky ones that can return and pitch effectively after a serious shoulder injury/surgery. edit. I should add that I know Peralta is likely just coming up until Loe comes back, that's why I said "then why call him up now?".

Final: Huntsville 9, Tennessee (Cubs) 7 Huntsville Box Score Smack around the Cubs! Well there wasn't much to like from the pitching angle in this game. R.J. Seidel went 3.2 allowing 5H, 1BB, 1HR, and 3ER against 2SO. He was backed up again by Josh Stinson who went 4IP allowing 6H, 1BB, 3R, and 2ER, against 1 SO. Eric Marzec only lasted a third of an inning walking 2 but recording an out to finish off the 8th. He was followed by Mitch Stetter who started the 9th but also lasted a third of an inning giving up a run on 2 walks, Bradley Banks allowed 1 of Stetter's inherited runners to score giving up a hit and striking out 1 in his two thirds of an inning. For all of the runs the Stars scored they were actually outhit 12-10. Jeff Bianchi went 2-5 and Scooter Gennett went 3-4 with a SB to pace the offense. Deep Down, what are your thoughts about Gamel?

I keep feeling like i should back Mat up but I really don't have anything more to add than my original post in this thread, so I'll just quote myself in support of him. -
Wisconsin holds on for third straight win Macias drives in four to pace Rattlers bats By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored eight runs in the first two innings at West Michigan on Thursday night against the Whitecaps. Then, the Rattlers had to hang on for an 8-4 win at Fifth Third Ballpark. Brandon Macias drove in four runs to lead the early attack for Wisconsin. The Timber Rattlers (8-6) picked up on Thursday night where they left off on Wednesday and scored five times in the first inning. The first five Wisconsin batters in the first inning reached base and all five would score. Yadiel Rivera started the game with a double and Max Walla drew a walk. Chadwin Stang singled to knock in Rivera for a 1-0 lead. Then, Jason Rogers drew a walk to load the bases. Macias sent a chopper down the third base line and got a fortunate carom off the bag for a two-run double and a 3-0 lead. Greg Hopkins tacked on a run with an RBI grounder. Carlos George ended the first inning barrage with an RBI single. The Rattlers got going again in the top of the second. Tyler Roberts singled and Walla walked to knock starting pitcher Tim Kelley out of the game. Reliever Warwick Saupold was welcomed to the game with an RBI single by Stang. Saupold walked Jason Rogers to load the bases again for Macias. The Rattlers third baseman drove in two more runs with a single for an 8-0 advantage. West Michigan (7-7) got on the board in the bottom of the third inning on a home run by Curt Casali. They added two runs in the fifth with a two-out, two-run double to cut Wisconsin's lead to 8-3. David Goforth went five innings as the Wisconsin starting pitcher and allowed three runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Chad Pierce worked a scoreless sixth, but allowed a run in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Eugenio Suarez. The inning could have been a little more frightening for Pierce and the Rattlers. There was a runner at third with two outs and Aaron Westlake sent a sinking line drive to left field. John Dishon charged, dove, and made a terrific catch to end the inning and save a run. There was more drama in the bottom of the eighth inning for Pierce. A two out walk with a runner at third base put Whitecaps on the corners. In a steadily increasing rain shower, Pierce fell behind the next batter with three straight balls. At this point the grounds crew came out to spread drying compound on the mound. After the brief delay for mound repair, Pierce came back to strike out the batter looking, end the inning, and keep the tying run from coming to the plate. In the bottom of the ninth, Seth Harvey allowed the first two batters of the inning to reach on a walk and a single. But, Harvey got the first out of the ninth on a strikeout. Then, Westlake lined a pitch to Hopkins, the Rattlers first baseman. Hopkins raced to first to double up the runner at first to end the game with an unassisted double play. Game two of the series is scheduled for Friday night with a first pitch set for 5:35pm CDT. Wisconsin has Andy Moye (0-0, 0.00) as the scheduled starting pitcher. West Michigan slates Wilsen Palacios (0-0, 3.38) to start the game. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 5:15pm. HOME RUN: WMI: Curt Casali (2nd, 0 on in 3rd inning off David Goforth, 0 out) WP: David Goforth (2-0) LP: Tim Kelley (0-2) TIME: 3:02 ATTN: 2,216 Wisconsin Box Score Max Walla still doesn't have a hit in just his 3rd game, but he has a 5:2 BB:K ratio, last year in Helena he had 30BBs against 76Ks, I'd say that's a pretty encouraging early return. I hope his confidence remains high as the hits will start falling. Chadwin Stang recorded 3 hits on the evening while Brandon Macias and Carlos George each contributed 2. John Dishon hasn't hit much to start the season but he's played some pretty solid defense and managed to steal both 2nd and 3rd after his walk tonight. George made an out on the bases getting picked off in the 8th and the Rattlers played errorless baseball. Wisconsin Play By Play These long streaks in games of nothingness from the Rattler hitters concern me. After the 2nd inning the closest the T-Rats came to scoring a run was in the 6th when Dishon provided all the offense. Wisconsin Top of the 6th John Dishon walks. Tyler Roberts called out on strikes. John Dishon steals (3) 2nd base. With Yadiel Rivera batting, John Dishon steals (4) 3rd base. Yadiel Rivera strikes out swinging. Max Walla grounds out, shortstop Eugenio Suarez to first baseman Aaron Westlake.

I hate to post more of the article, but I've commented on Thornburg's athleticism in the past, it's one of the reasons I'm so high on him.

I thought this was the most interesting part of the article, thanks for the head's up.

That question has already been answered numerous times on the forum. There's plenty to like about him but his secondary stuff also needs quite a bit of refinement before we starting talking about him being a 1 or 2. Every big league hitter can hit a FB or they wouldn't be be in MLB. i don't think Sessile was too far off when he guessed the ultimate potential of the pitchers selected at the top of the draft might in reverse order of their selections... Lopez, Bradley, and then Jungmann. I don't like posting about Jungmann's negatives on a consistent basis at all, but people keep asking the same questions and I just don't think his repertoire is as refined as many posters on the forum would like to believe. The curve I saw Taylor feature in the College WS reminded me of Axford's, and I actually hate it when Ax throws that pitch, it just doesn't have much bite to it, it's by far his least best pitch. College hitters were consistently getting a piece of Jungmann's curve, there's just no way I'll agree that curve was a plus pitch at that time. He's had plenty of time to refine his delivery and his stuff since I last saw him so he may have made significant improvement, but the early statistical evidence would seem to suggest that Bradley made more progress over the winter. I did like Taylor's change but I don't recall him throwing a slider at all in any of the 3 games I watched. Taylor's got prototypical size, has a big arm, seems very competitive, and seems to be a pretty decent athlete, there's quite a bit to like about him. However, while he missed bats in college, he hasn't missed all that many bats so far in his professional career. Without plus secondary stuff he's a mid to back of the rotation guy even throwing in the mid 90s, with plus secondary stuff he has a chance to be special, so obviously I'm hoping he continues to grow and progress over the course of the season and beyond. However, as it stands today, I don't see him dominating big league hitters if he were to be called up this season.

Final Game 2: Tennesse (Cubs) 1, Huntsville 0 (7 Innings) Huntsville Game 2 Box Score Normally I'd just be happy with such a stellar pitching effort but dang if I don't want to pummel the Cubs organization every chance we get. Evan Anundsen also pitched very well today, his only blemish being the game winning HR. He went 5IP, 3H, 1HR, 1ER, 0BB, and 1SO and was followed by Jesus Sanchez who pitched the final 2 innings allowing only 1 hit. The bats just didn't get it going in game 2 only putting up 4 hits against Ausie Ryan Searle who's an interesting prospect for the Cubs. Scooter Gennett had the only offensive performance worth mentioning putting up a 1-3 effort with a double and a stolen base. The Stars only got 4 runners to 2nd base, and Scooter was there twice and with today's double header he bumped his AVE up to .350 on the season. Khris Davis did go 1-3 keeping his AVE up near .400, he's batting .396 here in the early going. Huntsville Game 2 Play by Play Exactly what you'd expect given 4 hits...

Final Game 1: Huntsville 2, Tennessee (Cubs) 1 in 7 Innings Huntsville Game 1 Box Score Just fantastic pitching in game 1 behind Kyle Heckathorn's best outing of the season and the Stars scored in the bottom of the 7th for the walk off win. Kyle went 6IP allowing 5H, no walks, 1ER, and he struck out 3. Rob Wooten finished it off and was a bit shakey allowing a hit and a walk but got out of the 7th unscathed. Normally there isn't much of a chance for multi hit games in these 7 inning contests, especially low scoring affairs, but Scooter Gennett had a heck of a game going 3-4 with a double. Khris Davis and Andy Gonzalez each had 2 hits with Andy adding a 2B. Josh Prince had a triple and a stolen base, the Stars only defensive miscue was a PB by Jason Jaramillo. Huntsville Game 1 Play by Play 3 of the 5 hits Heckathorn gave up came in the 2nd. Tennessee Top of the 2nd Michael Burgess grounds out, second baseman Scooter Gennett to first baseman Hunter Morris. Jonathan Mota singles on a line drive to left fielder Khris Davis. James Adduci singles on a line drive to right fielder Brock Kjeldgaard. Jonathan Mota to 2nd. Michael Brenly doubles (3) on a fly ball to center fielder Josh Prince. Jonathan Mota scores. James Adduci to 3rd. Dallas Beeler strikes out swinging. Elliot Soto grounds out, pitcher Kyle Heckathorn to first baseman Hunter Morris. The Stars tied the game in the 5th... Huntsville Bottom of the 5th Josh Prince called out on strikes. Jeff Bianchi reaches on fielding error by third baseman Jonathan Mota. With Scooter Gennett batting, Jeff Bianchi steals (2) 2nd base. Scooter Gennett singles on a ground ball to second baseman Logan Watkins. Jeff Bianchi to 3rd. Brock Kjeldgaard singles on a ground ball to left fielder James Adduci. Jeff Bianchi scores. Scooter Gennett to 2nd. Hunter Morris grounds into double play, second baseman Logan Watkins to shortstop Elliot Soto to first baseman Rebel Ridling. Brock Kjeldgaard out at 2nd. ... and made the winning rally look easy. Huntsville Bottom of the 7th Josh Prince triples (2) on a fly ball to center fielder Jae-Hoon Ha. Jeff Bianchi strikes out swinging. Scooter Gennett singles on a line drive to center fielder Jae-Hoon Ha. Josh Prince scores.

Final: Wisconsin 10, Burlington (A's) 6 Rattlers score early, score late; win second straight By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored five runs in the first inning and eventually built a 6-1 lead over the Burlington Bees Wednesday night at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The Bees came back to tie the game 6-6 before the Rattlers scored four times in the bottom of the eighth inning to pick up a 10-6 win. Chadwin Stang tripled twice and drove in three runs while Carlos George homered and knocked in a pair. Greg Hopkins and Yadiel Rivera each came through with hits to drive in two runs in the ninth inning to send Wisconsin to their second straight win. The Rattlers (7-6) grabbed control with a five run first inning against Burlington starting pitcher Jose Macias. Wisconsin loaded the bases on a single and two walks. Stang unloaded the bases with a triple to the corner in right field. Brandon Macias would be next and his single knocked in Stang. Then, Macias stole second and went to third on a throwing error. George singled in Macias for a quick 5-0 lead. Burlington (6-7) got a run back off Wisconsin starter Mark Williams on a leadoff homer in the second by Dusty Robinson. The homer was the fifth of the season for Robinson. The Rattlers got that run back in the bottom of the fourth inning when George blasted his first home run since July 23, 2010. Williams struck out six over five innings and turned the 6-1 lead over to the Rattlers bullpen. The Bees started their comeback in the seventh inning against Seth Lintz. He gave up a two-run homer to Nick Rickels with one out in the inning and the Rattlers lead was cut to 6-3. In the eighth, Burlington had runners at the corners and two outs with John Nester at the plate. Nester fouled off five two strike pitches from Lintz and worked the count full before coaxing a walk from the Rattlers reliever to load the bases. Tommy Toledo relieved Lintz at that point and gave up a three-run triple to Royce Consigli that tied the game 6-6. But, the Rattler hitters responded in the bottom of the eighth. Parker Berberet drew a leadoff walk and John Dishon pinch ran for him. Stang, who had also tripled in the third inning, was asked to drop a sacrifice bunt and he did to send Dishon to second base. Macias singled to left, but it was hit too sharply for Dishon to score. An error on the throw in from the outfield let Macias take second base. The Bees walked George to load the bases and setup a potential double play with Hopkins due at the plate. Hopkins foiled the strategy with a single to center that drove in two runs and put the Rattlers up 8-6. One out later Rivera smacked a triple to center to drive in two more runs and give the Rattlers a 10-6 advantage. Toledo worked a 1-2-3 ninth to finish the Bees. The Timber Rattlers begin a six game road trip on Thursday night with a game against the West Michigan Whitecaps at Fifth Third Ballpark. Kevin Shackelford pitched a clean 6th but Seth Lintz struggled mightily giving up 5 runs, 4 earned in 1.2 innings on 3 hits, 2 walks, and a HR. Tommy Toledo came in to a bases loaded situation and gave up a triple which is why he was tagged with the blown save but ultimately got the win as he set the side down in order in the 9th. On the position player side of things the Rattlers pounded out 11 hits. No one had 3 hits but Yadiel Rivera, Chadwin Stang, Brandon Macias, Carlos George, and Gregory Hopkins all had 2 hits a piece. Rivera had the game winning triple, both of Stang's hits were triples, Hopkins had a double, and George added a HR which was his first of the season. I think pretty much everyone understands how much I liked the Mark Rogers pick and hopefully understands how hard I've rooted for him so my following statement is taken in it's proper context. For years I've been waiting for him to reign in his command so I could anoint him a legitimate top of the rotation pitching prospect, but it's just never happened. I pointed out that I wouldn't want Scarpetta as a MLB reliever with his 4.7 BB rate above rookie ball but I'd be remiss if I didn't point out that Mark has a career BB rate of exactly 6.0. He will not have MLB success with a BB rate that high and he's running out of time with the Brewer organization. There have been plenty of pitchers with big arms and a similar problem, Luis Pena comes to mind... guys that were just filthy but couldn't get out of their own way and throw enough strikes to be successful. Mark needs to throw strikes and I know this was his first legit outing in over a year (throw out last year because he shouldn't have thrown an inning with the physical problems he was going through) but the fact remains if he doesn't drastically lower his BB rate not only is he not a starter, he's not a reliever in the big leagues either despite his limited success in that role. I loved the pick, I love drafting multi-sport athletes who didn't specialize, I respect how hard Mark has worked over the years, I desperately want him to succeed, but it's now or never with the Brewers, and I'd hate for him to have to move on to another organization.

Gagnon & Harvey combine on shutout for Rattlers win in game two By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - Drew Gagnon pitched shutout baseball into the sixth inning and Seth Harvey closed out a 2-0 Wisconsin Timber Rattlers win over the Burlington Bees in game two of a Tuesday night doubleheader at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Wisconsin and Burlington split the twinbill. The Bees won game one 5-1. The only runs of the nightcap scored in the bottom of the fourth inning off Burlington starter Jonathan Joseph. Brandon Macias doubled to start the inning and Greg Hopkins moved him to third with a sacrifice bunt. The Bees (6-6) brought the infield in, but Carlos George's high chopper to short left Wade Kirkland with no play at the plate on first. However, Kirkland's throw to first was wild and George reached. George made the Bees pay by stealing second and taking third on a wild pitch. Then, Tyler Roberts smacked a single through the drawn in infield to drive in George for a 2-0 lead. Gagnon worked his way through minor jams in the first few innings, but he needed help in the top of the sixth. BA Vollmuth doubled to start the inning and one out later Gagnon walked Bobby Crocker to put the tying runs on base. Seth Harvey took over for Gagnon at this point. John Nester followed with a bloop single to shallow center to load the bases with one out. But, Harvey turned things up a notch by striking out the next two batters to keep the Rattlers (6-6) in front. Harvey made it a routine save by retiring the side in order in the top of the seventh with two more strikeouts. Gagnon picked up his first professional victory with his performance. He scattered six hits over 5-1/3 innings. Gagnon's six strikeouts in the game bumped his strikeout totals for the season to 19 in 14-1/3 innings. The final game of the homestand is Wednesday night at 6:35pm. Mark Williams (0-1, 3.38) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Jose Macias (0-2, 5.00) is set to start for Burlington. Chris must have snuck this in while the interview was playing between games, sorry for the late post, he's a machine and got one bye me. Bees take game one of twinbill By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers GRAND CHUTE, WI - Drew Granier pitched a complete game and the Burlington Bees offense put together a pair of rallies to defeat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 5-1 in game one of a doubleheader Tuesday evening at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Grainer struck out seven and allowed four hits for his second win of the season. Jason Rogers reached base on a two-out double in the bottom of the fourth inning. Rogers was the first Rattler to reach base against Granier. Rogers has reached base on either a hit or a walk in each of the first 11 games of the season for Wisconsin. The Bees (6-5) broke the scoreless tie with three runs off Rattlers starting pitcher Matt Miller in the fifth. Nick Rickles singled with one out. Royce Consigli's perfectly placed hit-and-run single put runners on the corners. Aaron Shipman was next and his single to right scored Rickles for a 1-0 lead. Later in the fifth, BA Vollmuth doubled to left-center to send in two runs and the Bees were up 3-0. Greg Hopkins started the Rattlers (5-6) in their half of the fifth inning with a bunt single. An error on the play moved him to second base. Rafael Neda singled to send Hopkins to third base. Carlos George knocked in Hopkins with a sacrifice fly and cut Burlington's lead to 3-1. Rickles and Consigli struck again in the top of the seventh. Rickles singled to start the frame. A wild pitch moved him to second base. Then, Consigli tripled to score for a 4-1 Burlington lead. Stephen Peterson relieved Miller and got the next batter, but an RBI double by Sean Jamieson gave the Bees a 5-1 lead. Granier allowed a one out single to Neda in the bottom of the seventh, but got a game ending double play to move his record to 2-0. WP: Drew Granier (2-0) LP: Matt Miller (0-3) TIME: 1:52

Final Game 2: Wisconsin 2, Burlington (A's) 0 (7 Innings) Wisconsin Game 2 Box Score The T-Rats score their first shutout of the season and a split of the double header behind a solid effort from Drew Gagnon. Drew went 5.1 allowing 6 hits and 2 walks while striking out 6, he only had 1 clean frame but he pitched well enough. He ran into major trouble in the 6th but Seth Harvey was absolutely fantastic striking out the final 2 batters of the 6th to get out of the jam and then sent the Bees back to hotel by mowing 'em down in order in the 7th. Seth had 4 strike outs in his 1.2 IP. Max Walla saw his first action of the season going 0-2 and a walk. Brandon Macias went 2-2 with a double, no other Rattlers had multiple hits. Chadwin Stang and Carlos George each had a stolen base and it was a clean game defensively. Chris did take time during the second game to address Thornburg's outing last night and while he chose his words carefully he made his discontent with the "reliever" label pretty clear. Wisconsin Game 2 Play By Play This was all the scoring, someone should buy Kirkland an ice cream. Pitcher Change: Jeff Urlaub replaces Jonathan Joseph. Max Walla reaches on force attempt, fielding error by shortstop Wade Kirkland. Tyler Roberts to 3rd. Yadiel Rivera to 2nd. Chadwin Stang grounds out, second baseman Chih Fang Pan to first baseman Chad Lewis. Seth Harvey comes up huge, bases loaded and 1 out after a bloop single. Burlington Top of the 6th B. A. Zack Greinke close to hiring an agent.....
TheCrew07 replied to miggs721's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I agree that there is a cumulative effect on the bullpen, but people seem to think Greinke is Sheets, which he isn't. Greinke and Gallardo are pretty close to the same guy from an innings standpoint, both are high pitch count pitchers which rarely pitch through the 7th. Sheets was pretty good about giving the pen a night off here and there, or maybe only use a single reliever. That's just not the reality of our rotation, we have a bunch of 6-7 inning pitchers, which isn't bad given the quality of those innings. However if you can replace 6-7 with similar quality, then you haven't really lost anything. I didn't exactly poo poo on losing those guys, but I don't sweat losing that kind of talent either because the Brewers will never be able to compete on years with the big boys. They can maybe match money on a short term contract but never years. I view it as forgone conclusion that those guys are going to walk and need to be replaced. I've also never been an advocate of signing middling FA pitchers either, I'm just trying to say that we have some nice young arms coming and while some may fail like Parra, others will succeed like Yo and there's no reason to overstate the effect that losing Greinke would have. Our pitching may drop off some, maybe for as long as a year, but it will quickly rebound as the young players get experience. Most of TB's young pitchers were up and down as rookies and then blossomed in that second year (David Price, Jeff Niemann, and Jeremy Hellickson), Wade Davis who was bumped to the pen by another young stud Matt Moore is the only guy who was pretty much just a 4.0 ERA type guy every year, and that's still awfully valuable. I think results along those lines with our top 4-5 pitchers is a pretty reasonable expectation. A Mike Fiers isn't on that same level talent wise, but I have a feeling he'll do okay in the rotation as a #4 or #5 until he hopefully gets bumped to the pen. -
If the Brewers lose Greinke, rebuild or re-load?
TheCrew07 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
It's not really arbitration anymore, don't you have to offer a contract worth more than $11 million? Isn't it offering a contract over the average of the top whatever number of players (I want to say 150) which determines compensation or not? -
Final: Huntsville 5, Tennessee (Cubs) 2 Huntsville Box Score Normally I would say something hateful about beating the Cubs, but as tonight's starting pitcher will "make a fine reliever" I'd rather hate on Keith Law. Tyler Thornburg was absolutely fantastic, as noted earlier in the thread he went 7.1 IP of 1 hit and walkless baseball while striking out 11! He exited after the 2nd batter in the 8th singled on him breaking up the perfect game as he reached his pitch count throwing 98 pitches, 67 of which were for strikes. Unfortunately Rob Wooten allowed back to back doubles to the first 2 hitters he faced and 3 hits total in the inning to allow Thorny's inherited runner to score plus one of his own. Josh Stinson put the Smokies down in order in the 9th for his first save of the season. Also noted earlier in thread, Scooter Gennett also had a huge night going YA-YA twice and finished 3-4 on the evening. Jeff Bianchi continues to rake adding 2 hits and bumping his season AVE up to .326. Jason Jarmillo and Brock Kjeldgaard each contributed a double as well. It was a clean defensive game and there were no OF assists because... well... there were no base runners until the 8th. Huntsville Play By Play I guess this what a MLB reliever does as a starting pitcher in the Minors? Tennessee Top of the 1st Elliot Soto flies out to center fielder Josh Prince.
