  1. Looks like PA wasn't able to get an IGT up tonight, so here you go. Phillips 2B Cabrera SS Bruce RF Rolen 3B Edmonds 1B Gomes LF Hernandez C Heisey CF Volquez P Weeks 2B Hart RF Braun LF Fielder 1B McGehee 3B Dickerson CF Lucroy C Counsell SS Bush P
  2. Wow, Lincecum is pretty (rightfully) peeved about being taken out of the game early. According to Adam McCalvy, the San Francisco feed showed Bochy pleading his case to Lincecum and throwing up his hands while Lincecum refused to make eye contact and stared into the outfield. I can understand trying to keep a rally going, but the 5th inning is a bit soon when you're only down by 2.
  3. If I had to guess, it's because Gomez has been playing well lately, and Macha wants to keep putting out his "best possible lineup" against the Giants. I'd like to see Cain back in there, too, but they're giving Gomez a chance to prove he belongs on the team next year.
  4. My favorite part: "If all goes well against the Marlins, Macha said he’d probably give Rogers another start in New York in the final week of the season." Seeing two starts before the end of the year would be awesome, and if they go well, maybe he'd have a chance at winning a spot in the rotation out of spring training.
  5. It's easy to forget that Wolf's first month of the season was also pretty good -- in 5 April starts, he had a 3.34 ERA, struck out 22, and only walked 10. In the middle months, he just couldn't locate anything and was giving up a ton of walks and home runs as a result. Now that he's found his location again, he's gone back to being pretty dependable. I still think the team needs a guy to slot in between Yo and Wolf, but I'm feeling a lot better about next year's rotation if he can keep pitching to that 3.75-4.00 ERA range I thought he was capable of heading into this year.
  6. Davey Johnson is a big one. From 1966 to 1972, his single season high was 18. During that stretch, his next highest total was 10. In 1973, at age 30, he hit 43. The next season was his last "full" season, and he hit 15. It's unfortunate that these days something like this happens and the first assumption is automatically PED's, but it's something that happens every so often in baseball. In Bautista's defense, there are apparently scouts who said they saw this kind of power potential when he was coming up through Pittsburgh's farm system.
  7. Incredible how bad defense can cause an inning to take a turn for the worst so quickly. Doesn't help that it looked like Bush lost faith in his defense after Fielder's misplay and started nibbling, too.
  8. Lorenzo Cain was supposed to get the start in center, but was removed from the lineup for violating team rules. Journal-Sentinel speculates that Cain might've been late to the park, but there hasn't been any confirmation on that, and knowing Macha, I don't know if we can expect an explanation. Seems odd, since Cain isn't the type to break whatever rules are set by the manager. Stinks that he's getting sent a message when you would think it's unlikely to happen again, but at least Macha's showing he doesn't play favorites.
  9. The good news is that there are a ton of division games at the back end of the schedule. They'll play 12 games against St. Louis in August and September, so if they can hang around all year they might have a chance to crawl back into it late. Of course, I'd rather wait until after the offseason shakes out before making a declaration on how tough this schedule really is. For all we know, Boston could take a rebuilding year, Tampa could fall back a bit like they did last year, etc. If there's one complaint I have about Interleague, it's the protected "rivalries" that get played every year. Yeah, it's nice to play the Twins, but when the Cardinals' "border war" is Kansas City and Cincinnati's is Cleveland, it throws the balance off a bit.
  10. Apparently, just before Derrek Lee was traded, Hoffpauir was sent back down to AAA. When they traded Lee and tried to call up Hoffpauir to take his place, they couldn't because he hadn't been down for at least 10 days. It's such an obscure thing that it makes me think the entire thing was planted by someone associated with the Cubs. I doubt many people working for the Brewers would know much about that, as it doesn't seem like it was a big story outside of Chicago.
  11. Judging by the roar when Nady hit his home run, it sounds like about 30,000 of those are Cubs fans. I realize it's important for the club's finances to fill the park and Cub fan money is as good as Brewer fan money, but I'd almost rather see a bare-bones crowd of Brewer fans than have it turn into a defacto Cubs home game.
  12. Haudricourt didn't take long to shoot this one down: I know Krasovic is generally well respected, but you don't get much more vague than "heard this from an MLB executive." I'm sure Mark A has interest in the "yeah, it'd be cool" sense, but I doubt he'd ever seriously consider it.
  13. Confirmation from Adam McCalvy: Awesome to hear in regards to Kintzler. He's definitely worked hard for this chance.
  14. Well at least it was entertaining at the end. Jeffress deserved better after an excellent AB against Pujols. I'm glad to see the offense didn't just go into hack-and-flail mode after the 6-spot the Cards hung up in the 8th, too. Would've been nice to win, but this just lends more credence to the idea that maybe it's not the pitching as much as it's the defense. There's just no excuse for McGehee constantly booting double play balls, and really, I think a more athletic first baseman makes a play on Holliday's RBI single, too.
  15. Only one guy can close the roof? Shouldn't they treat that like the Coke formula and have multiple people know pieces of the process? What happens if he gets hit in the head with a foul ball or something?
  16. Yep. Since Axford came into the game in a save situation in the 8th (5-2), the Brewers could have held a 16-2 lead going into the 9th and he'd still be in line for the save.
  17. Agreed on Burnitz, BC2004. Probably one of my favorite all-time Brewers, and one of the few bright spots from those late-90s teams. Kind of disappointed they didn't bring him back for 90s night.
  18. Heads up baserunning by Rickie to get into second on that play, seeing how deep Francisco was playing. Nice production by the top of the order so far today.
  19. Prince hits #30 in style...what a moonshot. Kendrick grooved that fastball about as much as you can groove one.
  20. Judging by Macha's (and Don Money's) attitude about Gamel's work ethic, I think an argument could be made that Inglett has more of a future on the big league squad than Gamel. I wouldn't be surprised if they included him in a trade package this offseason. Of course, getting full value for Gamel would include playing him, and I don't think that happens while Ken Macha is still managing for his job.
  21. Capuano was at 80 pitches through 5 innings, which is pretty much his limit. I don't think he pitched all that well, but he was fortunate enough to get good results.
  22. I'm going to bet there aren't many guys in the Brewers' lineup that can hit Hamels. Looking at how he's pitched this year, the lack of run support he's had all year is just incredible. He's given up 2 ER or less in 5 of his 10 losses, including back-to-back 1 ER losses to the Mets in August. Definitely one of my favorite pitchers to watch, especially when that changeup is working.
  23. Jeffress just makes throwing 98 look so easy. Nice to see him throw a scoreless first inning.
  24. While that inning was hard to watch, I have to say I've enjoyed the Brewers doing their part to effectively bury the Cardinals. Looks like Jeffress will get the 8th.
