  1. I think the thing that is going to prevent keeping Corey is the contracts that Upton, Victorino, and Pagan have signed. I think you have to look at reworking his contract. Maybe something in the line of 4/50 million. Thats what the market seems to be at at for this type of player. That keeps him in Milwaukee till he's 35 and that is quite a deal for someone that is going to hit .275-.280 hit an average of 30+ doubles 25+ homeruns and drive in 85+ runs. I believe if he is not traded this year. If he puts up the numbers he did last year. He hits free agency next year and gets an Upton type deal. A five year deal in the neighborhood of 60-75 million I think this is a realistic number. He gives clubs some options. He's still very dependable in the outfield. He might need to move to left field. As a first basement he has the opportunity to be a gold glove caliber player over the next few years. I watched probably 90% of the games he played at 1st. If it had been most other 1st basemen in the league the infield defense would have really suffered. He probably saved the infield a collective 10 or 15 errors. I can guarntee that Rameriz would have mentioned Corey if he had won the gold glove because he bailed him out on several throws from third. Just my thoughts. He's everything you want in a "team player". I really believe he has been part of the core everyone always talks about, but is never mentioned as part of it. From what I can tell he's a fan favored, a good guy in the community, a good club house guy and a pretty darn good player to boot. And to top it off he really wants to stay. I think if you weigh all that, he's one you want around your younger palyers. He seem to do it the right way.
  2. Come on guys I know its nerve racking, but gees. we are 6-7 in September and could easily be 8-5 or 9-4. We were really in one game we lost in St. Louis and 2 of the games we lost against Philly. In Philly one bad inning in game 2 (only one) and an error in game three. Over the next 6 games we go 4-2 (very doable) 91-65 the Cardinals go 2-4 (very doable) 83-72. An 8 game spread with 7 to play for the Cardinals. Even if it takes a game or two longer. We win 4 they lose 4 its over. GAME SET MATCH. My concern is not the Cardinals, but the Diamondbacks. That's where every ones focus should be. It would be nice to win the division and have home field advantaged. We as fans deserve the right to watch game one in Milwaukee.
  3. If any of ya'll are at the game could you please check and see if Ned Yost is in our dug out.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  4. It just irrates me when people don't look at the whole pitcure. I agree if you take his numbers from all star break til the end of the season that's what you get. But the kid had a three week slump, not a from all star break slump. Now I agree I hope he works on plate discipline during Spring Training to bring up is OBP, but everything else seems to work out to at or above league average. His actual numbers from all star break to Sept 5th were actual pretty good. AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB K SB CS AVE. OBP SLG OPS 179 25 51 16 2 5 25 87 7 11 9 2 .285 .312 .480 .792 So pretty much everyone on this forum wants to give up on him for 3 WEEKS. I just don't see it. He is dedicated player who works to improve constantly. Was in camp without a contract because it was the right thing to do. And everyone on here remembers 3 weeks.
  5. I think it is a deal that needs to be made. Probably 2/12 to 2/14 would get it done. The latest rumor this morning is that the Dodgers are only interest in a one year deal. And besides having TREVOR coming out in the ninth inning to Hell's Bell's would make Miller park explode. The only other intro song that comes close is Rick Vaughn's Wild Thang.
  6. Again trading Corey is a very very bad idea. Just check his track record. Even as far back as Ogden after he struggles he always comes back even stronger. He has proved it over and over again, and until he proves he can't I think it is a mistake to trade him. I almost gaurantee if he does get traded he will bounce back and put up the line everyone is custom to seeing from him. the only problem is it would be for someone else.
  7. Sometimes the statements on this forum completely confuse me. Both JJ & Corey have said repeatedly that they want to remain with the Brewer's long term. Not once have they mentioned wanting out of Milwaukee. If trying to get the best deal they can for themselves and family is wrong, then we probably need to ship out everyone and start all over because every player wants the maximum they can get in a long term contract.
  8. Rumor had it that it was 5 years between 17.5 & 20 million. I believe I would have waited too.
  9. Just listened to Corey's interview. How could you not want this kid on your team long term? He realizes his short comings and has been working out for the past three months trying to get better. The closeness of Braun, JJ, & Corey remind me of the 3 B's in Houston and look how long they stayed together and what they accomplished. I hope Melvin makes this a proirty this year to lock up JJ & Corey long term. This could give us that nucleus everyone is always looking for for years to come.
  10. I might be slow, but what did this have to do with the announcing of Macha as manager?
  11. FINALLY, someone that at least things along the lines I've been preaching for the last two months. The pieces are in place, if CC is obtainable sign him for the 4 year $100 million, I think everyone would be disappointed to see Sheets go, but year after year of injury. Adding Yo in his place in the rotation is a push to me. I see Yo as many clubs number 1 and he will be an above average number 2 in our rotation. 2007 with this core we had to learn to win, we did. 2008 we made the next natural progression 90-72 and made the playoff. 2009 everyone from Prince, if not traded needs to show more plate discipline and try and not hit a home run in every at bat. Corey & Braun need to show more patients at the plate. Weeks just needs to play the game and try to not take the media, fans, brewerfan, and the press not so seriously. (you know that the majority of all Brewer players read Brewerfan). JJ just needs to try and improve on last year). Sign Durham & Kapler back for the experience if they are willing to come back in a lesser role. And if he is not in our system spend the money to get an established closer if he is out there, but I believe that McClung has a closer mentality if given the chance. A little fine tuning and this group should at least have the same success as last year and with a little luck possibly a little better.
  12. This is beyond comprehension to me. Ever year Corey has put up the numbers. His walks increased every year except 2008. Through out minor league and his stint in the majors he has always had a strong August and September till this year. So to say that he has already peaked I just don't get. Every time he slumps he gets it turned around to a positive and becomes a better hitter. I do know that he was second on the team in extra base hits. And if he had not had Prince in front of him you could probably add about 10 more XBH and possible 5 to 7 steals to his total, which would have put him in the medium A type player versus the high B as he is listed at now. Trading Corey or JJ IMO would be major step back for this organization. Sign Corey and JJ to a multi year deal, try to reel in CC. Continue to build from within. We have turned the corner with this core. Start trading and we will regress back 4 years when the rebuilding process actually started. And lastly all the way through August Corey was one of the ones everyone on this forum wanted to sign to a long term deal. It's funny what a basic 3 week slump will get you with the fans. I'd take his numbers till September 5th and basically match them with any right fielder in the national league.
  13. Are you saying that Corey did not deserve the All-star vote. Of the Five on the list his numbers matched up pretty evenly with all of them.
  14. I just don't want to give up to much. Pretty much very trade mentioned seems to be their one player for a package of ours. It's way to early to be giving up the future. That being said the only one for one trade prospect with someone in the wings to fill in is at First base. I can see a Fielder for Cain trade even up. I still believe Corey will have a solid year, I believe it is to early to bring up Escobar, so trading JJ makes no sense. I also believe that we will make some type of move in Centerfield that doesn't include Cameron.
  15. I know it just opinion's, but this forum has us trading everyone that's tradable traded. I know pitching is a major concern and I think Cain is the most obtainable of all pitchers out there, but it means given up two or three position players. I'm just not sure it's worth it. Trade Corey, JJ, Prince, Weeks, or Hall. Everyone one of them have been mentioned in a trade or in combination of a trade. I just hope management doesn't go down this road. I honestly believe that Corey, JJ, Prince and either Weeks or Hall are going to put together solid 2009 seasons. I don't know the answer but Corey, JJ, & Prince (hold on to him at least one or two more years) are a good nucleus along with Braun to build a contending team for several years.
  16. I know that everyone loves Braun and I agree I am one. BUT I know it was only his first year in the outfield and he had a pretty good year there. BUT if you ever paid attention to the way he played the outfield. He was always 10 to 15 feet deeper than he needed to be, I can't remember 5 times when a ball went over his head that he actually made the catch, he played most off the wall. Most of his diving catches could have been made running through the ball, but he dove anyway In my opinion he is only an average outfielder with plenty of skills to improve, but definitely not a candidate for LF Gold Glove now.
  17. I read somewhere where they Graded out every major league player. Dividing them between A,B, & C players. The grading sytem was basically used to determine the players trade value. I can't remember where I saw it and was hoping that someone here could give a site to look at. I would really like to know what we could expect in a trade with any of our core players.
  18. I just can't comprehend most of the posters take on Corey. Up til Sept. 5th there was hardly a word mentioned about is OBP. Granted it was only between .315-.320, but nobody really said a word. I know everyone complains about plate disipline, but if Corey had walked just 3 more times a month (18 total) that would have pushed his OBP to a respectable above average .351. With another full year under his belt and what the club says his work ethic is. I'll bet we see improvement in walks next year. I mean the kid put up solid major league numbers every month except Sept. April /..295, May /.306, June /.265, July / .265, Aug. / .299, & Sept. /.173 And to say he is below average in a RF is ridiculous. Every sports caster, every opposing manager, every TV analyst says how good of an outfielder he is. You want names Reynolds, Cooper, Kruk, Kennedy, Simpson. You want more just look in the archive's. Nobody has a negative to say about his defense.
  19. I have trouble understanding your position on Corey. I'm not trying to be rude because I believe you add a lot of incite to these discussions, but I really can't figure where you stand on Corey. Outside of Sept 5th on Corey has been a very sevicable RF. His numbers match up with every RF in the league, except OBP and that number really needs to be addressed. He still did what you want a number 5 hitter to do drive in runs. 91 for the year and 20 in the month of August alone.
  20. Even thou the first two games have been a complete disaster, How would you rate each aspect of the game? For me: 1) Defense a B- (the 2 errors in game one hurt, but it still only put us down 3-0 and with our lineup you would expect that we would have an opportunity to come back with 7 bats to go. Out side of that inning we actually have made some pretty nice defensive plays.) 2) Starting pitching a C- (Yo pitch great, even thou he walked 4 he kept us in the game and he didn't get rattled after the 3 unearned runs. CC just was not on his game. When he missed he missed up and usually with 2 strikes. Everthing that missed the Philly's seemed to hammer. The two long at bats with Meyers seem to really take it out of him. And I don't believe that 3 days rest had anything to do with it. As bad as he was struggling he still wanted the ball to face Howard.) 3) Relief Pitching an A+ (every move to the pen that Svem has made has worked. a 0.00 ERA against that lineup has been picture perfect. Even if they show a liitle weakness they seem to have worked out of every jamb.) 4) Offense a F ( you can blame it all on Corey if you want, but Cameron-hitless, Durham-1 hit and nothing else close, Braun-3 hits 2 doubles, but the first was trying to get out of the way of it and happen to hit down right field line. He looked totally surprised he even hit it, he almost forgot to run. His 5 outs very bad at bats., Fielder- hitless. Need I say more, he has looked absolutely lost in every plate appearance., Hardy-2 hits other than that lost. One ball hit hard line drive to left field., Hart-1 hit has looked better, but still just the one hit. The strike out to end game one bad and swinging at first pitch after Hardy walked puzzling., Counsell-1 hit and it was a duck fart over second basemens head, other than that he has looked as lost as everyone else., Kendall-hitless, he has not hit anything hard and had probably been the easiest out of the whole bunch., Yo & CC-hitless, but probably hit the two hardest balls of the series. PH- simply pathetic. 5) Coachinga B (I think Svem has made the right moves to help be in a postion to win, but nobody has jumped on board to help. Pitching moves A, Defense B, Hitting D it is what it is. All he can do is put them out there and hope a couple get hot. It just has not happened. The one thing I will say is that I like the make up of this team. Not everyone is going to hit at the same time, not everyone is going to field at the same time, and every pitcher is not going to be on at the same time. They are young and I believe that their futures are bright. I haven't given up on us at least making a series out of this just yet. But going through this as a group will only make them more prepared the next time. I know the cast of characters might change, but nucleus will still be there.
  21. Corey actually looked more comfortable at the plate than anybody today. He didn't pull off the ball. He hit the ball well the first time Utley made a nice play. Maybe one or two second basemaen make that play. Kept his hands in looking for change up and drove line drive to right. Got under the pitch a little in his third at bat and hit a fairly deep fly ball to center. And was right on the pitch in last at bat and just swung through it. No body else except for Durham looked at all comfortable at the plate.
  22. I know it looks gloomy, but you have to admire the way Dale has put his mark on the team. Dale seams to press the right buttons. I know the players really like his style of managing and I hope he is at least on the short list for next year. Outside of the 3 unearned run inning it's pretty much an even game. I know only 2 hits for us, but the Philly's haven't been tearing the cover of the ball. We appear a lttle tight at the plate, but let them get their legs under them. I see a 5 game series. Not sure which way, but we aren't going any where.
  23. Harry Doyle and his 5th of Jack Daniels to Jake Taylor and his bum knees.
  24. Have you seen Nelson. He's big, it looks like has been stung a nest of bees. I have watched him play outfield in Huntsville & Nashville and as long as the ball is hit within a 10 foot circle of him he has a chance. I believe he is on this rooster for one reason and one reason only. I believe they want to let him get the fill of a major league player. I could be wrong, but I bet you are looking at next years starting first baseman. Fielder time here is short and Nelly makes all the since in the world to replace him at 1B.
