  1. Manny Parra is not listed on Nashville's rotation for this week at all. More than likely he is just being called up and the TBA is because it is Manny on Thursday. Sorry no Halladay yet.
  2. It appears that Halladay isn't untouchable, so that got me wondering how close a deal like this would be. What about Hart and Hardy for Halladay? My first thought is that Toronto really doesn't need Hart, but maybe a 3rd team could be brought in to send Hart to. If a deal like this was done then the Brewers would have to follow it up with a trade for a OFer(Dye would be nice).
  3. Not saying that he is available, but more just wondering if people would give up Gamel or Escobar for a Josh Johnson type pitcher. Johnson would be under control at somewhat reasonable contract for a couple of years. I still think a Hardy for Buchholz based deal makes the most sense, but I would think that Brewers would have to add a bat also to make up for going from Hardy to Escobar.
  4. I have a issue with the rules that allowed the whole Dice K thing more than I do the Dice K signing itself. I realize the rules allowed Dice K to be auctioned off and that is what I have the issue with. My solution would be that all players have to go into the draft before they can come to MLB. Then I would make it that teams keep the rights to the player they drafted either indefinately or at least 5 years. That way you cut out this [language edited by mod] threats by the Stausburg types(and probably some foreign players if/when the time comes) that they will sit out a year and reenter the draft. Giving teams rights to the picks for at least 5 years would also remove the threat of a high schooler going to college to avoid playing for a certain team. (edit: language --1992)
  5. I have no issue the way the Dice K thing went down, because those are the rules. My issue/question is if Dice K wants to play in MLB then why doesn't he(and players like him) have to go into the draft first. How can any player be a free agent without having to go through the draft at some point? These are the things that drive me crazy about baseball, because it just reinforces that MLB really doesn't care about the playing field being level. As long as the big market teams are bringing in the money they could care less about the rest. If that is the case then contract the other 20-25 teams and see how well a league of 5-10 teams does.
  6. I am just noticing all these foreign players(most 16 years old or so) signing with major league teams. The question I have is why don't they have to go into the draft like American and Canadian born players? What good reason could MLB have for not making them go into the draft? In my mind all it does is benefit the large market teams, because they can afford to scout more and afford the crazy money that it is costing to sign some of these guys. Just look at Dice-K as an example, when he signed it ended up costing Boston something along the lines of a $100 million. How many teams seriously are ever going to be able to compete for the elite foreign players? Is there any hope that MLB changes this in the near future?
  7. "An obvious trade of equal value players would be Alcides Escobar for Clay Bucholz. Top prospect for top prospect." I like this idea, but I don't think Boston does it straight up. Probably have to be Escobar and ??? for Bucholz. This is a avenue that I would prefer the Brewers try in their attempt to add a SP. I would really prefer something along this line, than to have to give up a bunch of prospects along with paying a ton for a Peavy type pitcher. I do realize that it is hard to get teams to give up SPers that have top of the rotation possiblities, but a team like Tampa with a lot of pitchers may give one up for a Gamel or Escobar type player.
  8. Would the Brewers consider trading either Hardy or Hart in a deal for Cain? Maybe make it something like Cain and R.Wynn for Hart, Suppan, and prospect(to make up for the difference in salaries between Wynn and Suppan. Or if the Giants wanted Hardy more, maybe try to get Edgar Renteria back to give Escobar a little more time.
  9. I would love for the Brewers to go after a Peavy/Halladay type pitcher, but after last year I just don't see the Brewers having the willingness to continue to wipe out their farm system. I would prefer the Brewers go after someone along the lines of a Matt Cain(yes I know he has been brought up a ton). I would like the Brewers to deal either Hardy or Hart plus a middle level minor leaguer for Cain. Cain could slide into the #2 spot in the rotation and form a nice top of the rotation with Yo for years to come. As for the Giants, they would be one of the teams that have pitching that might take on a major league player in return instead of prospects. If the Brewers did deal Hart they would probably have to get a veteran OFer to finish the year out. Maybe the Giants throw in a Randy Winn as a salary dump.
  10. One last spot available. Anyone interested?

  12. I am looking for 3 people who are serious about playing fantasy baseball. If your going to drop out after the draft or because your team isn't doing well, then please don't contact me. The draft is Friday 3/20 at 7pm, and is a live draft. If you are interested please email me and I will send you an invite. My email is packersbucks2000@yahoo.com

  14. I agree. Melvin and Yost would both have to be gone. This is basically the end of the "window of opportunity" set up by Doug Melvin & Co. If the team fails again this year, it's going to be really rough moving forward.I agree that if the Brewers do fail to make the playoffs both Melvin and Yost have to go. With that being said what is everyones thinking on whether or not to give Jack Z. the GM job if Melvin does get fired. It keeps Jack Z. from being hired away. Just thinking out loud.
  15. I've recently been thinking a lot about the Brewers SP situation with Sheets being a FA at the end of the year. They appear to be in a no win situation. If he performs great the Brewers won't be able to afford him and if he sucks or gets injured the Brewers won't want him. So I am basically figuring that Sheets won't be back. With that being said, would/should the Brewers consider dealing for Matt Cain of the Giants? Supposedly last offseason he was offered for Alex Rios. What if the Brewers offered either Corey Hart or maybe something like Matt LaPorta and ??. This would give the Brewers 4 good young SPs(Cain, Gallardo, Villaneuva, and Parra). I just think that the Brewers are going to have to make a move for a SP if they lose Sheets. On a little bit different thought process, what if the Brewers dealt Suppan in the offseason and used the money Suppan would have earned along with the money Sheets is making to either resign Ben or go after another "ace" like Sabathia or someone?
  16. My point of view is that the Brewers need to do two main things. First is get another top of the rotation type pitcher that is reliable. Most good teams have two clear top of the rotation guys. The second thing I would like the Brewers to do is work on getting some guys with good OBP and some speed would be nice. The Brewers rely to much on the home run to be good consistently. So hear are my ideas, and the trades are base models, prospects may need to be included one way or the other. 1) Bill Hall and Jeff Suppan for Roy Oswalt I realize trades in the division are not common, but the Brewers would get a good SP who is signed for a few years and the Astros would get a solid SP in return and also Bill Hall who could play any number of positions for the Astros. Hall becomes a piece of the Astros rebuilding. The best thing is that the Brewers actually save a little money. 2) Claudio Vargus and Tony Gwynn Jr. for Akinori Otsuka and Frank Catalanotto The Brewers get a solid RP to replace the departing Linebrink and also pick up a solid OBP LF to help set up the table for the big hitters. Texas gets a SP which they always can use and a OF prospect that they seem to be interested in. 3) Derrick Turnbow for Jacob Ellsbury Brewers get a CFer of the future(and now) who has a good OBP, speed and generally makes good contact. Boston has Crisp and could use the bullpen help more than taking the time to break in a rookie OFer. I would also have the Brewers resign Cordero, and let Jenkins, and Mench go. 1)Ellsbury 2)Catalanotto 3)Braun 4)Fielder 5)Hart 6)Estrada 7)Weeks 8)Hardy Bench Nix Gross Graffanio D.Miller Counsell Ellsbury and Catalanotto will get on base more consistently and having Hart batting 5th will help take advantage of his power more. I would also have Hardy hit 8th over Weeks, because it appears Hardy is the more disciplined hitter. SP-Sheets SP-Oswalt SP-Gallardo SP-Capuano SP-Bush/Parra/Villaneuva(winner stays other 2 go to bullpen) CL-Cordero RP-Otsuka RP-Wise RP-Shouse RP-Spurling RP-Bush/Parra/Villaneuva RP-Bush/Parra/Villaneuva
  17. I was just thinking that if the Brewers brass believe in Tony Gwynn Jr. hitting it might allow the Brewers to move Billy Hall to a team that could use him as a 3B or SS where he is more. What about a Hall and Mench for Carl Crawford deal? Tampa Bay gets a above average SS and a good OFer/DH and Milwaukee gets a leadoff hitter and allows Gwynn to play. What do you think?
  18. I sorry if this has already been covered, but it seems like it would be better for the Brewers to try to trade for Brad Penny at the 10-12 million a year he is making than pay the same for Jeff Suppan. Maybe I am off here but Penny is far and away better than Suppan in my mind.
  19. Alright here is my shot at this. Trades-- 1) Trade Carlos Villenauva to Philly for Shane Victorino 2) Trade Brady Clark and a low level prospect to the White Sox for Riske 3) This is a 3 team trade - Brewers trade B.Hall and K.Mench to Toronto who sends Vernon Wells to the Angels who send Juan Rivera and Ervin Santana to the Brewers So here is what my team looks like-- 1) Victorino (330,000) 2) Hardy (355,000) 3) Weeks (650,000) 4) Fielder (500,000) 5) J.Rivera (3,500,000) 6) C.Hart (329,000) 7) Koskie (2,000,000) http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif D.Miller (3,750,000) Bench-- OF - G.Jenkins (8,000,000) IF- Cirillo (1,000,000) IF- Graffino (1,000,000) OF - Gross (335,000) C- M.Rivera (350,000) Starting Pitchers 1) Sheets (10,000,000) 2) Capuano (4,000,000) 3) E.Santana (350,000) 4) D.Davis (4,500,000) 5) Bush (352,000) Bullpen CL- Cordero (5,000,000) RP- Capellan (330,000) RP- Riske (1,800,000) RP- Wise (650,000) RP- Shouse (1,000,000) RP- Turnbow (2,300,000) RP- Eveland (330,000) This leaves the Brewers salary at $52,711,000 for either salaries that I may not have correct or for a midseason playoff push pickup. I do realize that the 3 team trade would have to have some kind of prospects involved to even it out.
