I wish I could convince some of my friends to read this site. I'd bet 90%+ of the people here know more about baseball than I do, yet I feel like Bill James around them. A couple of them asked what OPS was, and after I told them one of them said:

"So it's basically pointless then?"

"No... it's a better indicator than batting average for a hitter."

"That's dumb, then they'd show that on TV and stuff if it was."

 

One of my friends also tried to argue last year that Carlos Villanueva was doing poorly as a reliever because he had a lot of decisions...

a good while ago i used to visit a couple different Brewers boards. posters were much like the people who write Anthony Witrado questions--average fan, no particularly deep knowledge. suddenly i was the guy on the board with all the answers. it was cool in one way, but i sure wasn't learning anything. here i've been very impressed with the general knowledge of everyone on here, and you get your well-informed counterpoint to every reasonable statement made.

 

and i've got a deep appreciation for Colby. i used to know very little about our prospects, but now i can rattle off names like nothing, with their stats, too.

 

who knew there were so many Aruban Brewers fans? all you people on vacation just can't miss a Brewers game!
