Time to give Villanueva the 8th inning?

Carlos has walked 2 guys per 9 innings as a reliever this year. That is the best BB/9 of anybody in the pen. Even counting his time as a starter, he's walking 2.5 guys per 9, well below the league average of 3.4 per 9.

How about the 1.345 WHIP this year for Villy?

No manager does that. MLB managers are dumb like that. That is why I don't like multi-inning guys in the 8th or 9th inning role. It wastes a guy who could go more innings by limiting him to one inning in a game.

Using Gagne with Wright, Beltran, and Delgado up there in the 8th tonight was just inexcusable.

 

79 homers by those 3 this year and we have them face a guy who has given up 10 homers in just 35 innings. I don't care that he got out of the inning...that was just playing with fire.
