Josh Towers available?

MLB trade rumors just reported that Riccardi is open to trading Towers, which could really benefit from a move to the NL. But this probably falls into the "better than Gallardo?" category, which probably takes the Brewers out of those discussions. Unless you bring Towers in and keep Gallardo in the pen (as DM has stated is his preference in order to save his arm).

I do need to admit that I didn't do ANY research to see if I'd be in favor of this or not - just reporting what I saw on MLB trade rumors. Off to Baseball Prospectus and others to learn more.....

We are in a pennant race,that's not the time to add a 7 year vet with a career 4.90 ERA.About the only thing he looks to do well is not walk hitters.

Yeah, I'd probably agree with that after doing a little research. Probably looks like more of an off season flyer for a team that needs a 4th or 5th starter and has no AAA depth. Seems to show signs of being a solid starter, but lacks consistency. And gives up a TON of hits.

 

But then again, that could describe some $10 million pitchers! (ok, I couldn't resist that comment)

Towers, depending on his contract, might boost the bullpen, he'd at least be ok to give multiple innings and throws strikes. If he's a Fa after '07, I'd talk to TOR.

I believe he's arby eligible after 07 and then fa after 08 (I believe he'll have slightly more than 4 years of service after this year). So, after 08 may still just be arby vs fa.
