So my question is twofold 1. First, why isn't Matt Arnold signed too an extension already? 2. Why aren't high quality GM's paid more than they seem to be? It was hard to find clear numbers for MLB GM's compared to say managers or players. That said, i couldn't find anything showing a GM making even just 10 million per. The highest paid GM that i could find was Andrew Friedman when he signed a 7ry/35 million dollar deal with the Dodgers. In the grand scheme baseball economics, that strikes me as pocket change for easily the most important person in a team's organization, so long as that person is given the power to run his organization without to much interference. A GM who is given a budget and largely told have at it, he won't just choose players to sign/cut loose, they help build the whole front office staff working underneath him. Who oversees the draft. Those who are highest in charge of scouting very young Latin players. How well he gets along with companions at work to where a GM is willing to take input on decisions. A quality GM like that who wins and builds a strong overall organization, that seems easily worth at least 10 million per.to me. That brings me to Matt Arnold who is in the last year of his contract if what i read is correct. I won't claim to know if Arnold has aspirations beyond the small market Brewers, similar to David Stearns leaving for the Mets. If that ends up being the case, i'd say thanks and wish him well so long as it wasn't with say the Cardinals. That said, if Arnold was open to staying, but were to leave with contract issues being a sizable factor as to why, i will be irritated given what GM's are paid. This current Brewers organization is humming along on so many levels and Matt Arnold deserves a bunch of credit as to why. I'd really hate to see him leave over maybe 3-5 million per, peanuts in the overall team revenues from year to year.

I've wondered why this took so long. Black hasn't had a legit place anywhere on the infield for awhile now, yet he's a very good athlete, which helps in chasing down fly balls

I remember being so excited when i saw the Badgers landed this current coaching staff. Never would i have thought the overall results of their tenure would be this disappointing. Sure, Granato has had to deal with quite a few of his players leaving early to go pro, but that is pretty common for good college programs, without them falling apart like Wisconsin has.

Walking Dead is still appointment tv for me, but that is the only one... Everything else I watch is dvr'd. I used to really like Walking Dead, but i think it's gotten more and more silly the last few seasons to the point i finally stopped watching it. Negan is the only character i still found interesting, but he was better as a bad guy. AMC allowed The Walking Dead to drag along for to many seasons because it still got ratings. Same thing for Dexter and Lost on other networks. Breaking Bad did the smart thing. End the show before the writers could no longer keep Breaking Bad the epic show that it was.

I thought it was good and definitely worth seeing, but not in the category of one of the better movies I've seen in a long time.

I love thin crust pizza and my two favorites on the south side of Milwaukee are Vinchi's Pizza in Oak Creek and On The Edge Bar & Grill which is right by Southridge. Both are fabulous. I like to support small businesses whenever possible, so i generally avoid most chain restaurants, but my sister came over one day with my nephew who loves Little Caesers and they brought with one of those new thin crust pizza's which are in commercials all of the time. I expected it to be awful because their regular crust ones are, but it was shockingly pretty good and just six dollars. Ideal for college kids like my nephew.

Plus, high school hockey in Minnesota seems something like how high school football is in Texas. A long time passion for those sports on the high school, college, and pro level which is hard to duplicate. As for Michigan, they simply have double the population. College football is the same. Wisconsin is the only Division 1 program while Michigan has five.

Yea, Wisconsin was very fortunate to come out with a tie. I thought their chances for tournament bid were shot a few weeks ago, but they have four huge games coming up against Michigan and Minnesota.

I also think that this and other moves signal that Stearns and his analytics team think that OF defense/range is undervalued in the market. Replacing Santana with Yelich, signing Cain, drafting athletic OFs in the 1st round three years in a row (Grisham, Ray, Lutz - who played CF this past year). Yeah, they gave up an athletic OF in Brinson but replaced him with two. Yea, Stearns clearly targeted two guys that not only will change our lineup, both are also plus defenders and good baserunners. When they drafted Ray, i think the team scouts hoped that he would turn into a Yelich type of player. Maybe not great at any one aspect of the game, but good to solid at everything. Unfortunately though, so far at least, Ray looks like a bust.

It was reported in multiple places that Cain had four year offers from three or four teams, and that sounds likely. The Brewers very well were one of those teams and when they finally offered a 5th year, a deal was done. Clearly, Stearns and everyone here would have preferred it was only a four year deal or the 5th year a team option, but he wanted the deal to get done, so he offered five years. Most here realize that the odds are higher that by the 5th year, Cain won't be productive in line with his salary. I'll be happy with three good years, a solid 4th year, and a 5th year where Cain is a fringe starter/platoon guy. Most free agents are 30 or older and part of the deal when signing them to multi-year contracts is often the last year or two has those players in decline to deep decline.

To bad Ray didn't pan out so either he was a gem still in the system or included in this trade, allowing us to keep Harrison or Brinson. Come to think of it, Yelish is the type of player i think the Brewers envisioned Ray becoming. Not special at one aspect of the game, but good at pretty much everything.

That was brutal to watch. The ND comeback started when Berry took that silly tripping penalty, leading to a power play goal.

Those last 45 seconds in the 2nd Minnesota game was nuts and Berry came up with some great saves. In fact, he was great all game. I don't know what to make of this team except that their inconsistency is consistent.

Outside of the Michigan-Ohio St college football game, USA vs Canada is my favorite sporting event between two specific teams to watch. I watch the World Juniors every year but there is really something special about a USA-Canada Olympic hockey game, especially when pros are playing. I love to watch every Olympics game which USA plays in with pros because many of the teams be it Canada, Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czechoslovakia, etc they also have quite a few pros on their rosters also and i'll even watch some non-USA games. I likely won't watch those non-USA games though if the pros are gone. It's so rare in any sport to have something close to All-Star rosters going against each other in games where the teams and players are actually trying their hardest to win, unlike the NBA/NFL/NHL All-Star games which are unwatchable.

Not me. The Olympics hockey with NHL players is my favorite hockey event outside of when the Badgers are in the NCAA Tournament. It's basically a series of All-Star games where the players actually care about winning and silly fighting doesn't take place. I'll probably still watch if college kids play instead, but it will take a big chunk of my excitement for the hockey event.

That game left me sick to my stomach. So many chances to end that game for Wisconsin. Had to be such a gut punch to those players to dominate like that, but not see one of those pucks not find the net.

Yea i meant just for hockey. That said, i understand why it wouldn't be likely. It was mainly just a personal desire of mine because i miss the N. Dakota/Wisconsin hockey matchup four games a year. I spent so many years watching Wisconsin play teams like N. Dakota, Colorado College, Denver, Minnesota-Duluth, etc that i'm still not fully adjusted to the Big Ten schedule vs WCHA. It's weird because i'm used to having strong feelings against schools like Michigan, OSU, and Michigan St in basketball/football, but when Wisconsin plays them in hockey it's not there yet for me. It just doesn't have that same big game vibe for me like when say N. Dakota or a good Colorado College team rolled into Madison with Paul Brown and Bill Howard calling the games.

The formation of a Big Ten hockey conference was more or less a formality when Penn State added hockey. The Big Ten requires at least 6 member schools to play under the Big Ten name and the NCAA requires a minimum of 6 teams in a conference to award an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Despite the great rivalries in the WCHA and CCHA, I believe the potential revenue from Big Ten Network games and a conference tournament was too much to forgo. 6 would be the critical mass for any of the major conferences to play under their primary conference brand. Man, i so wish that North Dakota would join the Big Ten conference. Has there ever been any talk of them being potentially invited and if they were, would they strongly consider it?

One thing which has surprised me is that the BTN doesn't televise more hockey games. To often there is fluff being televised and the Badgers hockey isn't on or is on some other odd network. So far i don't see this huge weekend series vs Penn St being televised anywhere in the Milwaukee area. The BTN is showing Minnesota vs OSU on Friday and Saturday night, but why can't they show games by region or state? I'm very annoyed that i can't watch either game.

Yea, i couldn't believe they gave up another goal with under a minute left to tie the game. Had they not won in OT and lost instead, that could have been a huge blow to their tournament chances. To leave a Michigan St player completely alone right in front of the net for a game tying goal was so frustrating.

I wonder if the Badgers will ever revive that weekend tournament they played for a couple of years at the Bradley Center. I went with some friends maybe 7-8 years ago and one of the games was against North Dakota. Our seats happened to be right by a section with a few hundred North Dakota fans and me and my friends had such a good time interacting with those Dakota fans. In fact, it just may have been the most fun i ever had at any hockey game i've attended in person. For whatever reason Wisconsin stop playing that weekend tournament in Milwaukee.

That was a huge win last night by Wisconsin. I watched the game with a friend and when the Badgers gave up two goals in the last two minutes to tie the game, i feared an OT loss which could have been devastating, especially after not scoring a goal on a 5 minute major and a two minute minor that lead to a 5 on 3 power play. I had high hopes when this new coaching staff was hired, but i didn't expect a turn around this quickly. There are some new players, but Granato has turned a team that was inept offensively under Eaves to a team which is now 6th in goals per game in all of college hockey.

When i was a kid my cousin played Pee Wee hockey at Wilson Park and i was so jealous that i couldn't play because my parents couldm't afford it. Anyways i'd spend weekends at his house and we'd look so forward to those replays of Badgers hockey on PBS at 10PM. After the game was over we'd go in the basement, put on his hockey gear minus the skates and play for pretend with a tennis ball. I have very fond memories of that. Plus, back then the Milwaukee Admirals practiced and played at Wilson Park and my uncle worked there. So he'd let me and my cousin in to watch them. The players gave us sticks and pucks, and sometimes they'd let us skate around with them after practice. it felt like such a cool thing as say an 8-9 year old kid. Man did i love hockey back then. I can still remember just loving the smell of a small hockey rink and skating.
