Ryan Church Trade idea

The Cubs are talking to the Nationals about Ryan Church, who could be an option to platoon with Matt Murton.

The Nationals will want pitching back, which could mean Angel Guzman, Sean Marshall or Carlos Marmol. The Cubs surely won't consider parting with Sean Hill for the 28-year-old.

 

Now if i remember right i really thought that CHurch was still in the dog house in washington for some reason. If the nationals can get one of those three pitching prospects from the cubs they should jump on it. I would have like to have church.

I, for one, wouldn't mind at all... he strikes out a lot, but .350/.450 out of CF? Not bad, provided he's average with the glove (he wasn't according to Pinto's Probabilistic model of range, but obviously with limited opportunities last season).

I know part of the problem with the Nats was that they (the FO and fellow players) were upset with his constant voicing of his religious beliefs in the clubhouse. Stuff like this:

Church angered some Nationals officials when he declined to play winter ball in Mexico, where Bowden wanted him to work on hitting off-speed pitching. Church's agent, Jeff Borris, advised against it.

 

"He had nothing to prove down there," Borris said Monday. "All his statistics add up to one fine season. He needs someone to give him 500 at-bats [in a season] and I think we'll see what he can do."
