Taylor Green

He has seemed to be playing first base a lot lately. Is this a move that is likely to be permanent? It's probably not a bad idea. With Gamel and McGehee he probably can't crack third base. Even though he doesn't have the power numbers of a Fielder he is a contact hitter more in the mold of a Lyle Overbay. He could be ready to replace Fielder after next season.

Well i never said he was going to replace Fielder next season. I was just wondering if his playing first base is temporary or if they're going to keep him there for awhile. Also, if he has a strong AFL season there is no guarantee he'll have to repeat AA.

Green is playing 1B now to ready him to play the position in the AFL to try to get him more ABs. His team has other prominent 3Bs.

I remembered when the Indians were looking into Green and wanted to move him to 2B. I think his numbers would make him an average second baseman and he would be below average at 3rd or 1st

I assume Green will go to AAA next year, but I'm not sure where he'll play. His BB totals have been fine, and what happened was his wrist fatigued over time. He had a great start, and likely showed enough (and should in the AFL) to warrant a promotion to AAA)

A wasted season for both Green and Cain. I assume both will repeat AA, as neither has proved a thing.

I agree that neither has proved a thing, but I don't think they'll keep Cain at AA for the simple reason that they have Schafer ready to move up to AA and they won't have both sharing CF. Sure they could have Schafer skip AA, but that's not their normal method. I think they'll look at it as sink or swim for Cain in AAA.

I've never been high on Cain, so I hope he has to prove things before moving up. I tend to think of Green's style and approach as being something they can be more aggressive with. I do understand the Schafer argument, but if they now view Shafer as a CF, they'll likely move Cain back to RF where he played until this year.

Ok thanks. I wouldn't be opposed to him staying this in Huntsville/Nashville next season.

I would be opposed to it. TG needs to be at 3rd or 2nd. Those are his best positions. I would prefer Gamel at 1st and Green at 3rd over vice versa. Green is the better defensive player.

I would too, but some people seem to take offense at the idea of Mat Gamel playing first base.

You are not maximizing either Gamel, or Green's value by moving them to first base. Gamel would be an average first baseman offensivley at first, whereas at third he could be in the top 3, and Green just does not have the bat for it to even be really considered. I am not opposed to the Brewers giving him some time over there, because I see him as a utility player in the long run.

I'm not an advocate of Gamel at 1st. Only as a last resort.

Just that Gamel should be there before Green is even considered. Gamel is probably more Overbay-esque than Green would be. Green defensively would be fine at 1-2-3, but offensively would be: 2nd-above average, 3rd-average, 1st-below average.
