I agree Diskono. Jarmusz was huge last night. He had Manny Harris beyond frustrated. His offensive game is certainly ugly right now, but he is earning his playing time through his D.

If Wilson would have been guarding Manny Harris, Harris would have had 20 plus points. Wilson has a nice offensive game, but so far his defense has not been even average. He gets beat to the lane easily and picks up fouls frequently. Hopefully, the confidence he gained from last nights game, wont simply be on the offensive end.

I was dangerously close to turning that game off and doing something else. Taylor was throwing up air balls that weren't even close and Battle was doing whatever he wanted. Sooner or later they are going to lose one of these "easy" games at home.

The offense just too often breaks down into everyone but the one guy posting up not moving from their spot at the three-point arc. Thank goodness Jordan Taylor decided to start driving, and his pair of triples that absolutely bailed out the Badgers' offense near the end of regulation were just mammoth.

 

My love/hate relationship with Keaton Nankivil continues. I love him even more & hate him even more than I did prior to this game.

I was only keeping up on the badgers in the first half online, and was told about how bad the badgers were looking so far. When the game got closer I switched from the NFL to the basketball game and I'm glad I did.

 

I loved the Michael Jordan Taylor quote. He was unstoppable and the Badgers were dominate in the OT.

 

Pre-Leuer's injury I thought the Badgers were going to win the Big 10. Maybe theres still hope.

Stunk to see MSU survive a second consecutive game where the home team missed a decent shot at the buzzer that would've beaten Sparty. But man, is MSU the real deal this season. Leuer can't get back soon enough. I'm looking forward to Bucky's game in West Lafayette tomorrow, but I definitely don't have my hopes too high.

Even if Leuer misses the entire conference season, it's hard to imagine Wisconsin getting worse than 5th. After the top 5 (I'm including Minnesota in there and not Illinois, they're not very good) there just aren't really any teams that are that great. This three game stretch coming up will be pretty big in determining where Wisconsin is in the pecking order after MSU.

Tonight's game at Purdue will be very difficult without Leuer. It would be nice if the boys could play them tough, but I heard on the radio today that the badgers have only won twice in like 35 tries at Mackey arena.... ouch!

My dentist's son is an assistant coach for the Badgers, so I have some insider information on the status of Leuer (if you believe my source is credible, which it is). At the Michigan game (1/20) we ran into my dentist and talked about the status of Leuer. He said that the wrist injury would take 4-8 weeks to heal and at that point he was 2 weeks into it. So the earliest we can expect him back is next week (possibly MSU). The latest we can expect him back would be somewhere around 2/10. As I look at the schedule, this puts him back for either Illinois or Indiana. He was 100% confident that he would be back before the start of the Big Ten Tourney.

 

Hopefully he is back sooner rather than later.

Man, that was a fun game to watch. UW is getting in a habit of these late game comebacks.....just fell a little short this time.

 

Would have been nice if the refs had called that foul on Hughes' three ball......c'mon - the guy missed by four feet and there's no call? Oh well....that wasn't what lost it for them.

Well....a loss is a loss.....but to be in the game with a chance to win with 6 seconds to go, no Leuer......I take it as a positive! Even though I thought the officials were horrible, and Travon had a pretty poor game.....

He certainly was lethal from the outside. Once again, though I loved him & hated him. He just isn't a presence down low, and that's really frustrating imo because he's the one guy with the physique to step into a low-post, physical role. I thought I couldn't love/hate him any more than after last game, but apparently it's possible.

Every once in a while, Nankivil decides to assert himself down low, & he usually really is effective when he does. I was super-excited when he took that baby hook shot in the first half, since too often he gets the ball down low, dribbles once or twice, & then kicks it out. I wonder if he'd hit that shot if it would've ignited his confidence in his low-post game. Don't get me wrong -- there's no way Bucky is in that game tonight without him, but his maddening lack of assertiveness down low was on full display once again imo.

The thing I really took away from this game, though, is Purdue's perimeter defense. It was absolutely superb from the opening tip to the final whistle (no-call on Hummel fouling Hughes notwithstanding). On the other hand, you had the Badgers' perimeter defense, which seemed content to just fall back off the constant pick-&-roll action Painter was calling. E'Twaun Moore absolutely killed us off of those sets, and it was maddening to see Ryan do absolutely nothing -- strategy-wise -- about it.

The only one of the Badgers' losses this year that bugs me is the loss at UWGB, and even that one isn't all that bad. But tonight we had a chance to set ourselves apart as MSU's only real threat in the conference race... but instead dropped back into a clear second tier of UW/OSU/Purdue. No, Illinois, you do not get invited to that party http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Frustrating loss, but a big hat tip to Purdue for playing their butts off.

Finally Marquette wins a close game. Aside from that brain fart at Depaul, they continue to look impressive. That loss could really hurt though.
