Braun NL Player of Month for April

Ryan Braun has been named the NL player of the month for April.

Not totally surprising but there has been other tough competition like Berkman and Ethier.

I understand Ethier had/has the sexy hitting streak, but if it's true what they say- A walk is as good as a hit- then Braun had the same streak of reaching base.

 

After that, Braun finished the month with 10 less ABs than Ethier and had 9 more runs, 7 more RBIs, 7 more home runs, 4 more stolen bases, 3 more walks, 5 fewer strikeouts, 150+ more points in slugging, and an OPS approaching 1.200, while Ethier's was under 1.000. Their OBP were nearly identical and Ethier's batting average of .380 was slightly better than Braun's .367.

 

Other than the sparkling "hitting streak" phrase that people love, I don't see how Ethier really deserved it more than Braun. Granted, I would not have whined if he had won it.

Kemp has been the better Dodger OFer. But there are a bunch of good NL choices (Braun, Votto, Holliday (.510 OBP!), Berkman). Of course in the AL its a no brainer.

Yeah, Ethier's got a hitting streak going, that always appeals to people, but statistically, Brauny's been far superior.
