Can't wait to see who the Cardinals take with our pick! Whomever it is will be guaranteed to haunt the Brewers for years to come. Mark it down.

I need to know the money on it before making a determination

The draft pick is the bigger deal to me. And the whole Cardinals pixie dust thing.

i'm betting 2 years with an option for a 3rd. $9 million/year. just a guess.

if so I am ok with the move. not thrilled but ok. I believe it was J.P. Breen who wrote a very intelligent article about the value of signing Lohse

Yuck.

I'm not as mad as some here will be, as long as it's not a ton of money. We can use the pitching. I don't like losing the pick, and I don't think he's nearly as good as he's pitched the last 2 years.

I'm not mad, but I'm not exactly happy either. Who's bumped from the rotation now?

Fiers. He also has options so no need to keep in the bullpen either.

Seriously? SERIOUSLY?!?!?

Does this team not care about the future at all? Giving up on a draft pick that could potentially help the farm system and the future for a quick fix in an aging mid-rotation starter?

fiers hasn't exactly looked great this spring. i wonder if they'll ship him to AAA to get straightened out.

I'm not surprised about this at all given how unimpressive the young starters have been this spring.

I too hope it's for no more than 2 years and 18-20 mil total.

The cardinals wont get "our" pick, they get an additional pick after the first round. I may be wrong though.

correct. it will be the 28th pick.

To be fair, this year's draft has been routinely described as weak . However, we do lose our bonus pool money for the pick. Will that have any ramifications down the line?
Posted

Despite the weak draft there are some guys that do have good talent that would have been available for the Brewers. This team does not need quick-fixes for a negligible increase in chance for the playoffs, they need a long-term solution, which means accumulating draft picks.

Honestly signing Lohse seems like a panic move.... that's as effective as using a band-aid to fix a crack in a dam.

I realize that you can't count on young pitchers and many of them will flame out...but why block all the young guys? We spent all this time drafting all these pitchers, and assuming this contract is for at least 2-3 years, you've essentially blocked at least 2, if not 3 spots in the rotation for the foreseeable future (Yo, Lohse, Estrada?). Where are guys like Fiers, Rogers, Burgos, Thornburg, etc going to pitch?
