Roenicke is absolutely right to leave Burgos in there. This ballgame is OVAH! /Hawk H.

No need to start doing damage for tomorrow's game. I think RR has been overall pretty competent in his handling of the pitching this year.

Forgot your sarcasm font.

Apparently our bench needs a rest as well as Burgos hits for himself in the top half but yet Roenicke (finally) makes the pitching change for the bottom half.

I bet Burgos gets optioned after the game, and Fiers gets recalled to eat some innings. Then Thornburg gets recalled to start on Thursday, because he's pitching in Nashville tonight. Or Fiers could possibly make that start if he isn't needed much in the few days before.

it's probably going to happen. that's a load of crap too. burgos has been solid in all 3 starts. today's disaster was a combination of defensive errors and RRR. fiers is going to keep getting smacked around as long as he telegraphs his pitches. everybody and their mother can see what the pitch is with the way he grips it.

Good call.....if RRR doesn't give Weeks at least 1 day off just so we don't have to watch him he is insane.....

Facing Arroyo tomorrow, a guy who might be his worst matchup in the league. If he's in there Roenicke reaches a Yostian level of stubbornness.

Burgos was not "solid" today...defense or no defense he got banged around...badly.....

Agreed...he didn't get a lot of help, but let's call a spade a spade, he was awful today.

Not excusing Braun's mistakes, but pitchers are going to have to deal with that sort of thing, and part of the skillset of a pitcher is their ability to maintain composure on the mound and continue with what they need to do and not let it affect the rest of the inning.

its better than leaving in a struggling pitcher.

No, it's not.

so you're saying its better to concede defeat just to give the bullpen rest? its never acceptable to concede defeat. we lost this game because roenicke let his starter get crushed. i dont care if its the 3rd inning. your starter is physically and mentally done. leaving him in the game is only going to end up in failure especially if he's a rookie. this isn't a kershaw type where there's a good chance he gets out of the jam. this is a guy with limited major league experience. if RRR brings in a reliever we might have still had a chance to win.

I agree that Burgos should have been done by the 7th or 8th run. I realize it taps your bullpen but he only lasted through 3 anyway. We are talking about two more outs.

And we need a true long reliever. Someone stretched out who can go 3-4 innings. Frankly, that's what Estrada should be doing and what Narveson can do when he gets healthy since we're stuck with Estrada in the rotation. And for you Estrada lovers out there, spare me your venom. I don't want to hear your BS "stats." The fact he is he tires after about 5 innings, he gives up the gopher ball at an alarming rate, doesn't have great stuff, etc. Estrada is holding a place until the young pups come up. Estrada would have been a perfect guy to bring in the 3rd. He's a classic long reliever, a good one. As a number 3 starter? No way.

We've gotta get 2 of Thornburgh, Nelson, Jungmann, Hellweg and Bradley into the rotation by 2014.

Pretty amazing that Aoki, Segura, Braun, Gomez, and Ramirez are all at or around 300 or better and we still suck. The pitching looks like it will be our downfall again.

I am guessing being skipped in the rotation screwed up Burgos. Our entire pitching staff save for like 3.5 guys basically sucks.

Honest question, and perhaps this should be posed in the pitching thread, but would we likely see the same pitching results if Mike Maddux was still here?

Same results a different pitching coach is not going to change all that much with the players the Brewers have.

Fiers has been recalled...due to Gorzellany hitting the DL due to left shoulder tendonitis.

I think that Burgos would be a great long reliever. Puerto Rico used him as a long reliever in the WBC. That bullpen really needs a rebuild. Brewers have 3 legitimate pitchers in Gallardo, Lohse, and Peralta. The team can count on those guys to go at least 6 innings. I don't think Estrada is that bad. He struggles with the long ball but he usually gives the team 6 innings. He's the perfect long relief guy though. A bullpen made up of Burgos, Narveson, Estrada, Gorzelanny, Henderson, Kintzler, and Figaro is solid. That leaves the team with a rotation of Gallardo, Lohse, and Peralta. Brewers need 2 guys to graduate soon. Maybe someone with more knowledge of the minors can answer this. Isn't Nelson the most ready out of the young guys? Could the Brewers count on Hellweg to start next year? If so, the Brewers rotation would at least have 5 guys that can go 6 to 7 innings.
