If Zack Wheeler re-signed, would this be the first time a manager has ever managed a guy he was traded for? I was trying to think of other possibilities but couldn't.

Good question. The only case of this I could think of was Jim Fregosi managing Nolan Ryan back with the Angel's in the 70s.

So many managers are or were former players I'd have to guess that maybe there's been others. Just hard to find one.

 

I'd guess it would probably have happened back in the era that guys were semi-regularly player-managers.
