I wouldn't call Burnes' start last night "rough". It was substandard from him for sure, but that's a good start for a lot of MLB pitchers.

Of course you wouldn’t. I’m not sure exactly where I would draw the line between “rough” and “substandard”.

I was referring mainly to the start of the start where he labored through the first few innings, threw a ton of pitches, and guaranteed a short start. 100 pitches in 5 innings is not what a team needs from its ace starter.

With virtually everyone in the bullpen used last night the Brewers need more than that from Woodruff tonight. Maybe the quicker second inning will get him back on track.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

"Substandard for him" is the key. Burnes' standard is 7 innings/0-2 runs/double digit Ks. But he's not gonna do that every start. An ace does what he did last night with his "D" stuff. As far as MLB pitching in general, last night's start was slightly above average. I do agree that we need innings from Woody tonight. Rockies are a pesky lineup.

Urena certainly looks far better than he did with us earlier in the season but he never got to face this lineup.

No, but he's also done this against the Dodgers and Padres...You don't have to turn everything into a dig against the lineup.

In his 3 starts for the Rockies, Urena has basically shut down the Dodgers, Padres, and Pirates. I'm not surprised by the first 2 innings. Just gotta keep at it.

Brewers being a 3-1 favorite in this game makes no sense.     Being a 3-1 favorite doesn’t happen a lot in mlb

Especially when two teams aren’t that far apart.    I’m hoping Vegas is right

No team with an offense like the Brewers should ever be that heavily favored.

538 had the Brewers winning chance at 67%, which would be 2:1. Even that’s pretty high for an MLB game.

I keep thinking Urena would have been a better option than Jason Alexander, but if he pitched against the Brewers he probably would look as good as Urena.

On the infield single? That's how its taught. You try to throw it so it skids when it's that deep.

Seriously? Is this supposed to be in BLUE?

Actually it’s not……when you have a throw that long and you have to get rid of it quickly you expect many of them to bounce…….as long as the throw is on line it’s fine……which it was.

We have to make Urena throw pitches, especially when he doesn't strike guys out. Going up there swinging at everything is just playing right into his hands.

Brewers have now scored as many runs against Urena as his last three starts combined, including against the Dodgers and Padres...

Imagine how much more complaining about the offense there would be if we had signed Avi Garcia or Nicholas Castellanos, like some people wanted, instead of trading for Renfroe. And we managed to rid ourselves of JBJ in the process...

Yes. You dont want an in between hop and the ball gets there quicker because you arent putting the loft under it and the ball maintains the speed when it skids off the infield. Obviously a throw on the fly without any air under it would be best, but many cant with that long throw.

While signing JBJ was in the top 5 worst moves of Stearns tenure getting Renfroe for him and getting rid of that contact was in his to 5 best moves.

Yep, if you're off-balance/on your heels and at risk of air-mailing it you try to throw a one-hopper to the 1B.  As a former 1B, as long as it hits the grass you have enough time to gauge the bounce and make a relatively easy catch.  What you don't want it to do is hit the lip of the grass because then you don't know if it's going to bounce up or skip low off of the edge.
