After some input I received, I shuffled some of the reactions a little.

The heart icon for Like has been replaced by a thumbs up.

The heart icon has been moved to a new reaction, Love.

The Confused reaction has been changed to a Disagree with a thumbs down icon. That feels less confrontational than other neutral or negative reactions.

Please give your input on what you think of these, they're absolutely not set in stone.

Personally I don't care for a "thumbs down" icon. I'd rather people either just ignore a post they don't like or respond to it with a counter-argument. I know some have wanted it though, so I hope it's a positive addition.

Not sure what the alternatives are (or if that connotation is even needed), but I absolutely foresee trouble looming if the “thumbs down” icon sticks around. Yikes.

We'll definitely monitor the situation and if people start trolling with the reaction, it'll be removed.

It's a fine line to walk. Most social communities have some way to "dissent" without lengthy commentary but if people can't resist abusing the feature, I won't hesitate to remove it.

I wish people on the internet were capable of acting like grown-ass adults instead of middle schoolers.

Good luck. It's the ability to do/say whatever you want while maintaining anonymity. There will always be folks who can't resist abusing that. But in almost a year here, I'd say this board has at least a fighting chance compared to others. We shall see.

There is always a section of the internet that wants a place like this to discuss a topic. It’s our core mission to provide that to those users, I just wish we didn’t have to spend so much effort keeping it that way.

I like these changes, and if the thumbs down causes an issue, I'll be shocked.

I like the thumbs down. Perhaps it's a bit subtly passive aggressive, but it may keep arguments from spiraling out of control in the long run.

I think the thumbs down feature has proven to be more than worthless. I did a search of "thumbs down" and conversations have centered around people using it and griping about people using it. Plus I am currently tracking a situation that I've reported on twice about now where a user is blatantly harassing someone for what I can only assume is their posting style (sigh) by thumbs downing them for 7 days in a row now.

Let's get rid of it. Please.

That must be me, and giving the thumbs down to treego14 for his ridiculous rhymes.  I'm doing it more in fun than to actually harass the guy.  I'm quite sure he knows I mean no harm.

If this is causing you this much stress, and not him, I will cease and desist.  Sheesh.

You have a history with the thumbs down that clashes with using it as a joke so I don't know how someone is supposed to make that leap. That's not criticism, the feature exists and you have every right to use it. I felt your use in this case was excessive. Really this type of misunderstanding just accents the simple negative feelings created when using a thumbs down on a message board. I don't think it's productive and would like to see it removed. People on this board really don't have problems voicing when they disagree with others and I think that method is much more healthy for discussion.

I have a history with using the thumbs down?  C'mon man...

Are you saying, that outside of my use with treego14, that I have a longer history of using the feature more-so than others?

Dude...

Good grief, man. That's what you took from that?

I read the forums. I don't read every sub-forum or every topic or every post ever but just going off memory I see how people, including you, have used the thumbs down. I don't have specific memories of what you've thumbed down but I've felt like, in those moments, I've had a good idea why you were using it. Make sense?

I've never seen someone thumbs down a specific poster for over a week as a joke. This silly deflection that it should be obvious you were joking makes no sense. We have a blue font for sarcasm, you think people can suddenly catch the vibe of a thumbs down other than "I don't like that"?

I'm just not a fan of the thumbs down regardless of who is using it. I've used it myself a few times, probably on some JefferyLeonard type posts but I really couldn't tell you on what. I could do without it which is why I've posted in this forum.

Ok, well, since you have dubbed yourself as the overlord of thumbs down usage, I will bow to you and leave treego14 alone.

I've not seen anyone else complain so much about so little.  Whatever.

I will consider your offense next time I am considering using the dreaded thumbs down reaction.  I might even shoot you a message asking for your approval before doing so.

Does that solve your problem?

I hope no one else decides to use it, those kind of shenanigans are just unacceptable.

Acts like a jerk, gets called out, makes excuses and blames others, attacks anyone that speaks against them. Bully behavior. Sorry if the truth hurts big guy.

I don't believe I acted like a jerk, in fact, I think the guy with the issue here is acting a lot more like a jerk than anyone else.  You simply didn't like my explanation, yet you continue to hammer it home.

Who made excuses?  I told you exactly why I was using thumbs down, and that wasn't good enough for you.  You wanted the reason to be because I was just being a dick, and bullying the guy.  Neither was the case, so you continue beating your drum.

Who did I blame?  There is no one to put blame on.   Who did I attack?  You seem to be the one in attack mode, and why is that?  Because you don't like thumbs down, and you don't like my reasoning.  If anyone is bullying here, it is you, but it doesn't bother me to be honest.  This is a message board, nothing you can say to me matters in the least.

In the end, you don't like the thumbs down reaction, you have climbed way up high on your soapbox, and no one cares.  I have told you I'd stop using it to preserve your delicate feelings, nothing more that I can do.

I'll leave you with the last word, I have a game to watch.  👍

I was really hoping turbo was going to give me a dislike reaction to that post. :D :D :D

I thought about it, but I have already said I wouldn't use it any longer...  I'm a man of my word, even if it is just to placate someone with a weird axe to grind.

Would have been funny though...  😀

Oh yes, of course I must be the actual jerk, not the guy that spent a week plus making a joke that few, if anyone, could possibly have guessed was a joke.

Yeah, I thought you were harassing, bullying, being a jerk to that poster. Didn't I say that in my original post? I did. Those are synonyms.

I think I've tried to be fair, I acknowledged there was a misunderstanding (meaning I misunderstood your intent) in my first response to you. You seemed more interested in how I phrased a sentence about a history of use. Which I guess you took as an insult but I was really just trying to make a point that the thumbs down isn't generally used as a joke so how was anyone supposed to know that?

Clearly I don't completely accept your explanation of "it was a joke". I seem to need to spell that out because you claim to be baffled why I keep responding to you.

I haven't really seen an attempt to answer how people should know what your intent was. I just get a mocking, sarcastic reply complete with using using blue font because that's how I tried to make a correlation between people having difficulty identifying sarcasm in text form and using a thumbs down as a joke being similar to that. And now you are questioning why I might see being mocked as bully behavior or being a jerk as well.

I started this by giving an example of someone (anonymously by the way, you chose to jump in and identify yourself) I felt was using the thumbs down in an excessive manner. I stated an opinion why I felt that the feature should be removed. That's it. Do you think I'm saying it's all because of you? I'm not, it's just one instance. I've seen lots of people use it in ways I don't think are productive in the last year since it was added. So far I'm the only one putting a voice to that opinion, it's going to take others to agree or nothing will change and rightfully so. I'm just one person.
