I think the point is that they needed one more bullpen arm as much as one different bullpen arm.  The current six man rotation, with Miley just off the DL throwing <75 pitches in each of his last two outings, left them with just two options. 

Should have had whichever starter had a side/bullpen session that day available for an inning.

This is related to something I was thinking after the game. Once they got the first couple of guys on Bush appeared to be saving bullets in case it went to the 10th. Think about it-----0-2 pitch to Cutch that was very hittable, and with a red-hot Santana at the plate & 1st base open a first-pitch meatball as if it was Matt Wise standing at the plate trying to hit with salad tongs.

Would love to have heard the conference when Hook went out to talk to Bush. I think Counsell was scared to death of extra innings.
