I agree but I have to think, as bad as he’s been, if they put Brian Anderson at right and Frelick at center, at least there’s a possibility of a walk or contact or some kind of major league at bat.

You're losing quite a bit in defense going from Wiemer to Anderson in the OF. Not sure that sacrifice is worth it for the hopes of Anderson at the plate cause he's been quite awful at the plate lately as well.

Nope it isn’t that hard.     But I don’t want to get into too much.    Lets just leave it at that

Can you tell me the last time when though?     I’m not being argumentative.    Just asking.     Of course I’ve seen him make great plays.   That was a while ago

He's solid out there. I can't remember him making an error or a bad play. Correct me if I'm wrong.

He caught a ball deep in CF, fired it to Wily who threw it to 2nd to double up Bell to end the inning.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Beyond communication with other OFers....there have not been any mistakes, but some close ones on collisions.

Well, normally I would agree for sure, but when it gets to a point of an automatic strike out almost every time,  it just might need to happen occasionally.

Ok      That sounds like a decent play then.       But he needs to being this all the time to even consider playing his bat

It wasn't a wow play, but a smart one and one that relied on a strong arm with little setup to throw the ball. Wily also had a smart play to go to 2nd instead of 3rd (lead runner) and caught Bell pulling a plow to 2nd.

You can find my posts elsewhere where I've advocated that he needs to go to AAA.  His bat has trended downward for quite a while now and it is getting ugly.

You asked for a recent play, so I mentioned one.  Defense does seem to come easy to him (aside from communicating to other OFers so he doesn't run them over).

The opportunity to flash the leather/arm doesn't happen "all the time" - just accept that he's a plus defender and a minus batter at this point, and a pinch runner candidate too. As soon as Canha and Yelich get back, he'll go back to the bench.

I’ve seen enough games to know he can play defense.    But outfield play is so weird.     You can literally go games where all you can do is just make routine plays.     Playing an outfielder for purely defensive purposes when he can’t actually hit is just different than a ss or catcher in my opinion

A minus bat is too politically correct.      It is absurd that he is hitting in the majors at this point

Again, I'm not advocating for Wiemer to play more... but CF is probably the 3rd best position to have a plus defender (after the C and SS you mentioned) given the number of balls that go there.

I thought of this the other night when Monestario thought he had a HR, but it hit the CF wall... and their LF got to it first.  I'm not sure where their CF lined up (especially when AM is right handed), but a CF like Cain or Wiemer might've caught that ball.  While the Marlins CF wasn't even in the picture.

All it takes though is that one play to change a ballgame. Also, he makes a lot of plays look routine that wouldn't be for the average OF.

For us to score more runs and avoid a close one? 😉

Hopefully for both teams...

It'll probably be Payamps and Williams, but with the way Megill took care of the top of the lineup last night, I'd be tempted to trot him out next inning.
