Brewerfan.net finally cracks the Journal/Sentinel

Posted

Make sure you grab a copy of the Journal/Sentinel on Monday, 04/11 (the day of the home opener). There should be a fairly decent sized article on the front page of the Metro section (section B) on Brewers fans... and there should be a fair amount on Brewerfan.net.

This will mark the second time the site has been featured in an "actual" newspaper ( link )

Apparently, the story's supposed to be blessed with a photo of yours truly, so it'll be a collector's item for the ages. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif

I agree...I wouldn't mind a copy as well.

I'll try to grab some extras, too.

Don't forget, Brian, that we appeared in a recent Huntsville Times article by Mark McCarter (a.k.a. one of my personal top five baseball writers, Major or minor league)...

First of all, congratulations (in advance).

Is "Metro" one of the sections whose content varies depending on whether you're in Milwaukeeland? (i.e. is it worthwhile to buy a copy distributed in Madison because our first game isn't until Tuesday?)

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I'll find out....

I live in northcentral WI, and Metro is section B up here, normally has all the Milwaukee news, etc. in it, so you should get the article wherever you live in-state.

Patrick, if you buy some mind saving one for me? Not sure when I could pick it up, but I'm sure we could figure out something.

I know this isn't the same, but anybody who has today's MJS, turn to the metro section. It has an article on Bonnie Brewer, for us 20 something fans, it's a great read and very interesting.

You don't have to buy a copy of the paper to enjoy the story:

Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Brewerfan.net

Meanwhile, Brian Kapellusch, 27, a computer programmer, is tinkering technically with the increasingly popular Web site, Brewerfan.net, which he and a few like-minded men created three years ago. The site has fostered a virtual community, tip-tapping its keyboards well into the night and with no small obsession about the Brewers - or about the promise of things to come.

"If they get good it probably won't be as fun," Kapellusch said at his house in Waukesha, sitting before his computer in a room including caged rabbits and a ferret and adorned with framed portraits of Rob Deer and Joey Meyer, among other substantiation of the Brewers crabbed fortunes.

Kapellusch's Web site has grown from about 50 visitors when it began in May of 2001 to the more than 3,700 souls who dropped in on a single day last week, when on opening day the Brewers gutted the Pittsburgh Pirates 9-2.

Good stuff. Congrats Brian, and congrats to Brewerfan.net.

wow, really taken out of context.

I think we all know what is meant. Most here follow the entire organization and have grown up with the heart-break. It's fun follow the entire organization. But do you think Yankees or Red Sox fans care what is happening in AAA, let alone A?

Or as they get good, maybe the diehards like us will be pushed aside. But the way it was written in the paper seems to imply that Brian enjoys the Brewers being the mediocre at best.

still, always nice to get mentioned in the paper

Whelp, I just got back from the store to get my 10 copies of the paper. The bad news is that the photo got cropped and only shows my mugshot on page 13A. The great news is that the article is actually a front-page article of section A, and Brewerfan.net gets mentioned on the front page of the Journal/Sentinel!

So, thanks go out to Graeme Zielinski of the J/S for taking an interest in the site and generating hopefully some new interest in Brewerfan.net!

Brian,

It sounds as if that comment was absolutely taken out of context. Can you fill us in as to what you and the reporter were talking about?

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

It was in reference to 2 things:

1) The misery comradery

2) Winning records producing worse draft picks
