After rallying to tie the score in each of the 3rd, 6th and 7th innings, the Sounds’ bats eventually got over the hump in the bottom of the 9th inning behind C Eric Haase’s 389-foot, 2-run walk-off blast to satisfy 6,177 home fans:

A few hours before that, RHP Garrett Stallings (5 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 2 BB, 1 K in 81 pitches) had delivered a respectable start on 4 days’ rest, rebounding from a 2-run, 2-hit, 2-walk first inning to put up zeroes in the next 4 frames. Old friend (now nemesis?) OF Carlos D. Rodriguez had started the difficult first inning with a bunt single, while Stallings helped himself out with a key pick-off for the first out of the 4th inning.

Prior to Haase’s heroic last swing, OF Tyler Black (2-for-4, double, 2 RBIs), SS Freddy Zamora (3-for-3, HR, double, RBI) and OF Daz Cameron (1-for-3, walk, RBI) had carried the offense, knocking in or scoring each of Nashville’s first 4 runs, capped by Zamora’s opposite field 329-foot homer to tie the game 4-4 with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th inning.

Sounds’ Extras:

• RHP Craig Yoho dominated the top of the 9th inning, registering 10 of 12 pitches as strikes while inducing a 45.5mph ground ball out before consecutive strikeouts swinging. RHP Julian Merryweather also had a 3-up, 3-down 8th inning after RHP Blake Holub and LHP Brian Fitzpatrick each conceded a run in 1 inning of work.
• 1B Raynel Delgado got a rare start at first base and continued his second half offensive surge with a 2-for-3 evening and an HBP. Unfortunately, he and Cameron were both picked base off during the contest.
• For those hoping that the Brewers promote 2B Luis Urias or DH/C Jeferson Quero, they combined to go 0-for-7 with a walk on this particular day.

Friday’s outlook: LHP Tucker Davidson is scheduled to make his 3rd start in 11 days, with Nashville seeking a 3-1 home series lead. Davidson tossed 4 scoreless innings in 49 pitches on Sunday.

Via the Shuckers’ website, game details: Shuckers Blast Three Home Runs in Wild, 7-6, Loss to Barons

Aiming for their 3rd consecutive victory in this week’s road series, Biloxi was out-hit 10-7 but actually had far more opportunities than the Barons by drawing 12 walks.

Unfortunately, three dingers were not enough to overcome a 1-for-11 evening with runners in scoring position, stranding 13 baserunners in the process.

But let’s still celebrate those long balls, including 1B Blake Burke (3-for-4, HR, walk, RBI, SB) getting things started with 2 outs in the top of the 1st inning to give him 10 blasts in just 35 games at the AA level (after 5 homers in 95 games at High-A Wisconsin this year):

It was a very rough start for RHP Jaron DeBerry (4 IP, 6 R, 7 H, 1 BB, 2 Ks), as a leadoff hit-by-pitch was followed by a bunt single, RBI double and 3-run homer to trail 4-1 before retiring any Birmingham hitters.

However, C Darrien Miller’s first pitch, 3-run blast with 2 outs in top of the 5th inning brought the Shuckers right back into the contest to trail 6-5 by that point:

RHP Bayden Root (1 IP, 0 R, 1 K) returned from injury to concede only a bunt single in a scoreless 5th inning before OF Luis Lara (1-for-4, HR, RBI, 2 walks) reminded us that he’s got a little pop in his 20-year old frame to tie the contest in a full count with 1 out in the top of the 6th inning:

After 2B Eduardo Garcia helped LHP Jesus Broca (2 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 2 Ks) escape the 6th inning by throwing out a baserunner at home, Biloxi appeared poised to take control of the game on OF Zavier Warren’s triple and Miller’s walk to lead off the 7th inning, but an odd pop foul double play nabbed Miller (1-for-3, HR, 2 walks, 3 RBIs). SS Jesus Made (0-for-4, walk) ultimately popped out to end that frame with the bases juiced.

Warren’s hit was actually the last of the game, as Birmingham pushed the game-winning run across on a walk, stolen base, error and sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 7th inning.

Shuckers’ Extras:

• After 3B Luke Adams (0-for-3, 2 walks) and Miller were called out on strikes with 2 runners aboard in the 8th inning, hitting coach Kevin Martir was none-too-pleased and ejected, following in the footsteps of assistant coach Matt Lipka from a day earlier. Whose turn is it on Friday?
• LHP Mark Manfredi (1 IP, 0 R, 3 Ks) followed the Martir ejection by striking out the side on 15 pitches in the top of the 9th inning, but no Shuckers reached base in the bottom half.
• We’ve not received a status update on Cooper Pratt’s Wednesday hand injury, although we do have a worthwhile pre-game interview with Made from Wednesday to share.

Friday’s outlook: RHP KC Hunt (4.60 ERA, 1.32 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 115 1/3 IP) looks to end his up-and-down 2025 regular season on a high note by leading Biloxi to a 3-1 road series lead.

I think I am unofficially bumping Burke up my 1st base depth chart ahead of Adams, Boeve, and Wilken. It is going to be interesting to see how they organize the likes of Adams, Boeve, Burke, Wilken, Black, EMJ??, and others for next year (Fischer hot on there heels). All are likely deserving of AAA, my guess is Burke starts in AA just to avoid an issue. I really like Adams getting OF reps so that a 2027 Adams/Burke platoon with Adams capable of 3B and OF would be a perfect pairing.

Placing all of these talents in 2026 is a rather great problem to have.

I figure Wilken is a lock for AAA, while the others are somewhat up in the air. I guess a Vaughn-Black MLB first base tandem is an option.

Boeve’s not gotten much defensive work in the past year, so there’s a case for keeping him in AA.

Adams is such a young, athletic wild card - is he ready to handle AAA already? I guess the AFL will tell us more about Luke’s level.

We all love EMJ and I pray he cracks into MLB in 2026, maybe even as the Vaughn counterpart instead of Black.

Mehring and Lobner wondered aloud whether the season-ending South Bend series was the last time they’d see Fischer as a T-Rat before promotion. $3.5m and a .311 AVG say move him up, but 1 homer (in 87 PAs) and an age of 21 at start of next season are counter-arguments.
