I have no idea if there is a psychological effect for some guys when they hit in front of the run producers that they try and take more pitches vs being in a run producing spot and free swinging, etc

While Chourio has thrived in the 2 spot - Yeli and Turang have regressed since being flipped (willing to be fact checked on that). An order of Turang, Chourio, Yeli, Contreras, Bauers just feels better to me? Flip Bauers and Yeli if we need to... that would be fine too. Anyone else?

I think you're talking in general. I'm talking specifically the lineup tonight. Turang has been horrible against LHP this year. I want to flip him and Bauers because hitting in the 2 hole makes Turang a lot more likely to face the LHSP three times while Bauers in the 5 hole with Contreras and Vaughn in front of him is a lot less likely to face the LHSP three times.

You could diddle around with Yelich & Turang flipping, I have no idea if it would make a difference. Whether it's Chourio or Contreras hitting behind him, it's good to get Yelich some pitches to hit. Of course these days he could have Willie Mays behind him & I feel he'd still swing at breaking balls out of the zone.

It's unavoidable from time to time, but the bad thing about tonite is with Sanchez catching and Contreras hitting is if you hit or run for Sanchez you lose the DH.

Another concern in this one is if Sproat is ready to call it a night in the 4th-5th inning with LH sticks due up, you no longer have the pre-Ashby lefties in the pen that we've seemed to have all season. Koenig can't get back soon enough.

Yes……right after the off day

If they do that it would mean 4 starts for both Misiorowski and Harrison before the All Star break. They would each have a start in the Cubs, Reds, Cardinals, and Pirates series.

Misiorowski would start the Saturday before the All Star Game and would be good for an inning in the game.

I’m sure MLB wants him to pitch an inning.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yes definitely. Sorry I wasn't critiquing your thoughts on the lineup tonight ... just quoted you to expand on the lineup talk overall.

The whole roster management for the pitchers is interesting. I do think Koenig for Yoho makes sense, even if to just get another lefty out there. If Sproat does ok tonight, I could see them squeezing another outing out of him next week to give Miz and Harrison another day's rest during this upcoming stretch. Then you have the possibility of Henderson (if all goes well) returning during the long road trip - I imagine that puts Sproat down to AAA, but you also add the one-day arm to the roster for the double header day in StL, which if all goes well, could be Crow (or alternatively, Sproat again). I'm feeling pretty good about upcoming depth at SP after the ASB (if all goes well), but what to do with those being bumped from the rotation is cloudy to me.

I hope all goes well.

Question I had on the double header extra arm, can it be someone who hasn't been down at AAA long enough to be recalled?  Basically do they get an exception due to the DH?   I would guess not, but thought it could be a way to manipulate this all right now.

That would be an amazing issue to have to deal with. Given our luck this year ... more DL stints are incoming and we will need everyone. I hope not though. If Gasser and Sproat end up getting starts in AAA that will mean good health up top and that would be a welcomed change.

As if I know anything, but, googling...

It looks like they just have to be on the 40-man roster, and they have to go back to the minors the next day, Doesn't look like the minimum stay in the minors after being sent down is a thing for the double header 27th man. They can also pitch in both games (though not sure how advisable that is).

27th man cannot pitch in both games. They are only available for one of the two games. You are right that they don't have a minimum stay requirement back in the minors. They could be called back up 5 days later for another start.

You might know better, but my google search returned this, which it says came from baseball-reference.com:

Advance notice: If the second game is scheduled at least 48 hours in advance, the 27th man can be used for both games; if less than 48 hours, the 27th man can only be used for the second game

I'm pretty sure that's saying they can be used in either game in the one scenario and specifically one game in the other scenario.

I predict anger, followed by anger, followed by even more anger, and then ending in elation from the victory.

Please remember to substitute the word “passion” for “anger” 😎
