Any chance Fielder appeals it? I guess it would depend on whether or not he thinks he can get it reduced though...

Seriously -- he should pull a Derek Lee. Maybe he wouldn't have to serve it until 2008.

Lee gets only 2 games more for taking a swing at someone. Ridiculous.

Lee did not go after an umpire though -- A distinction probably needs to be made, and umpires probably need to be protected/respected more than opposing players.

He has to appeal it IMO so that we can have our Sept 1 callups there for depth.

I think Corey Hart should start taking some reps at 1B, otherwise Dillon would suffice.

Not surprising, he was totally unprofessional and lost his cool.

How many games is Bell getting suspended for for being unprofessional?

Did Prince "go after" an umpire? Pretty sure all he did was argue/complain/yell about a call and ejection.

The umpire followed Prince, instead of just ignoring him. How about some punishment for the unpire? Why it is considered acceptable for umpires engage in arguements with players, coaches, and managers?

The whole thing doesn't happen if Prince just goes to the dugout. It was really stupid for a MVP candidate on a team in the middle of a division race.

I guess we could put Hart at first, but it's not like we have too many guys in the OF who are playing all that well. Hart's having the best year out there. I'd keep Dillon out there.

Well, the fact that Prince had to be restrained, then walked around the people trying to restrain him while pointing at the ump and telling him to make love with himself probably didn't help Prince's case that he was baited. This news was pretty much expected, so I'm not too horribly upset. He'll end up doing something similar to what Derrek Lee did and appeal for a month before finally serving the suspension during a series that doesn't have a ton of playoff implications. If his appeal is miraculously heard before September 1st and he ends up having to serve the suspension, Joe Dillon can fill in for a few games. If it doesn't happen until September, you could probably play Hart at first and go with Gwynn or Gross in RF for a few games.

Completely agree.

Heh, and which one would that be at this point?

I still think it'll go down to one game, which I'd be more than OK with. Two, fine. Having all three would be problematic but we'd have to make do.

it's too bad you can't selectively serve a suspension - Fielder could then opt to serve his suspension during games that the Brewers have little to no chance to win anyway...like the next 3 games started by Capuano.

Seems to me it also doesn't happen if the umpire just ignores Prince as Prince is walking away, instead of following him. Or if he wanted to throw him out just do it and walk away from Prince, rather than toward him. There was no need for the umpire to follow and goad Prince into repeating himself.

Not saying Prince does not deserve punishment (though 3 games seems excessive), but the umpire deserves some too, imo.

I have a feeling, unless the Brewers fall out of the race soon, that all series for the rest of the year will playoff implications.
