Cubs pursuing Raul Ibanez

Posted

Rotoworld has the link if you want it, but this is the only sentence that dealt with Ibanez...

Mariners outfielder Raul Ibanez -- signed through next season for $5.5 million and a known quantity to Piniella -- is high on the Cubs' list.

Jenkins without the glove?

Ibanez in 06-07: 1,199 AB's, 54 HR, 228 RBI, .290 BA, .352 OBP.

Jenks in 06-07: 904 AB's, 38 HR, 134 RBI, .263 BA, (.335 OBP approx)

Those are pretty significant differences Al, especially considering Ibanez wasn't platooned at any point.

In fact, if you figure Jenkins to be the equal of Ibanez, then logically, the Brewers should have picked up Jenkins option and then either kept him or dealt him to get Matt Murton who the Cubs figure to offer to the Mariners for Ibanez.

Raul has had a bit of a rebirth in SEA, but he'll be 36. Again, he'd be ok, but he's far from a guy I'd target.

He can't hit LHP worth a lick either. Strictly a platoon guy. I'm surprised SEA did not sit him versus lefties, .300 OBP would get noticed, I'd think.
