Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes
Final: Nashville 9, Memphis 2
Box Score and Game Log
Via the Sounds’ website, game details, and we encourage readers to review affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine: Sounds Dominate Redbirds in the Series Finale
If the plan is to transform RHP Taylor Clarke into a starting pitcher a la Bryse Wilson, then we’d have to say that it’s looking like an excellent experiment thus far: 4 shutout innings, 4 hits, 0 walks, 1 HBP, 4 Ks on 64 pitches in this game, along with 3 shutout innings on 50 pitches in Tuesday’s contest.
Clarke consistently touched 93-94mph (peaking at 94.6) and was given a nice 2-0 lead by the 2nd inning, then deftly navigated around a double and hit-by-pitch to open the bottom of the 3rd inning (K, soft line out, ground out to pitcher).
In the 4th inning, an infield single, walk and error with nobody out set the table for 1B Tyler Black (2-for-6, HR, 5 RBIs, 2 runs scored), who jumped on a first pitch, 70.9mph curveball to bring everyone home in grand fashion:
Sounds’ Extras:
- Left fielder Isaac Collins (3-for-5, 3 RBIs; .886 OPS) knocked in the first run of the day en route to a 3-hit afternoon. In fact, every batter in the Sounds’ lineup registered a hit (with center fielder Joey Wiemer and DH Eric Haase both reaching base 3 times) except for right fielder Chris Roller.
- By the time long-inning piggy-backer RHP Evan McKendry entered in the 5th inning, Nashville already led 6-0 so McKendry pounded the zone (54 pitches, 36 strikes): 4 IP, 2 R, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 Ks.
- Kudos to C Francisco Mejia (2-for-4, HR, RBI, 2 runs scored), who followed up his 2-homer effort on Friday, rested Saturday, then hit another in the 7th inning on Sunday. That’s 3 HRs in 2 games for Mejia, giving him…3 HRs on the season.
Next week’s outlook: The Sounds will host Reds’ affiliate Louisville, with RHP Chad Patrick (3.21 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 8.7 K/9 in 47 2/3 IP) scheduled to start the series opener on Tuesday.
Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes
Rainout: Pensacola at Biloxi
Via the Shuckers’ website, rainout details: Shuckers, Blue Wahoos Canceled on Sunday at Shuckers Ballpark
As you would have read at that link, this game will not be made up as Biloxi and Pensacola don’t face off again in the first half of the season, thus concluding Biloxi’s 1-win, 2-ejections, 4-loss week.
Next week’s outlook: Biloxi heads three hours up I-65 to Montgomery to take on the Rays’ affiliate. Don’t be surprised if today’s scheduled starter (LHP Nate Peterson) and RHP Shane Smith tag-team the series opener.
Wisconsin Pre-Game Media Notes
Final: Fort Wayne 5, Wisconsin 4
Box Score and Game Log

The Rattlers couldn’t quite complete the comeback, but Wisconsin’s media team still has the video highlights here:
And don’t forget to catch 21-minute the Mehring/Lobner post-game podcast featuring comments from Manager Victor Estevez.
Long balls off of RHPs Alexander Cornielle (5 IP, 3 R, 5 H, 1 BB, 2 HBPs, 4 Ks) and Patricio Aquino (3 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 0 BB, 3 Ks) accounted for 4 of Fort Wayne’s 5 runs, but they stranded 10 baserunners to just 3 for the Timber Rattlers, giving the home team and crowd hope of a comeback.
Trailing 5-1 (note SS Jadher Areinamo’s 1st inning homer), Wisconsin put the potential game-tying run on base with 1 out in the bottom of the 8th inning, prompting Fort Wayne to go to secret weapon David Morgan, who K’d 4 of the first 5 batters he faced, stranding Dylan O’Rae at 3rd base in the 8th inning and Gregory Barrios at 2nd base to end the game.
Timber Rattlers’ Extras:
- Wisconsin had already clinched this week’s series on Saturday, so perhaps that explains why the offense was a bit flat on Sunday (out-hit 12 to 5).
- RHP Yerlin Rodriguez can be pleased with his one inning of work, keeping the score 5-4 in the 9th inning: infield hit, K swinging and 2 infield pop ups.
- When there are only 2 walks issued in a 9-inning game, it’s usually a quick affair: 2 hours, 28 minutes for the 3,863 in attendance on Sunday.
Next week’s outlook: Wisconsin gets to remain home, with Royals’ affiliate Quad Cities coming to town. Midwest League K/9 leader 6’4” LHP Mark Manfredi (3.52 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, 14.1 K/9 in 30 2/3 IP) is scheduled to dominate the first game of the series.
Final: Carolina 13, Delmarva 12
Box Score and Game Log
Via the Mudcats’ website, game details: Mudcats Sweep Shorebirds with Walk-off Win
The Mudcats led 10-2 and almost lost? Yes.
The Mudcats committed 7 errors and still won? You bet.
They trailed 11-10 in the 8th inning and 12-11 in the 9th inning, then won on a walk-off to sweep the 6-game series? Isn’t it great?
If Carolina needed a harsh lesson in humility and focus, they almost got it. Thankfully, they drew three walks in the bottom of the 9th inning and C David Garcia came through with his 4th hit and 3rd/4th RBIs of the day to send 1,627 fans home fully entertained and happy.
Every Mudcat in the lineup notched at least one hit, as they also won the hitting battle 14 to 6. D. Garcia 5 times, SS Daniel Guilarte 4 times (and scored 4 runs), 3B Miguel Briceno 4 times, center fielder Yophery Rodriguez 3 times.
Mudcats’ Extras:
- Starting RHP Josh Timmerman keeps registering Ks but also allowing earned runs – 4 2/3 IP, 6 R (3 ER), 5 H, 3 BB, 5 Ks – exiting at 82 pitches (47 strikes). His season ERA now sits at 4.45.
- RHP Blake Whiting and Aidan Maldonado were unsuccessful in stranding inherited runners, going 0-for-5 in that department, though Maldonado’s work was marred by a 2-run error (one of 2 errors by 1B Reece Walling). Whiting and RHP Morris Austin combined for a rather poor day at the office: 2 IP, 5 R (3 ER), 1 H, 6 BB, 1 HBP, 2 WPs, 2 Ks.
- Who else contributed to the day’s septet of errors?: Timmerman 1, Guilarte 1, Luis Castillo 1 (but he had 3 RBIs), RHP Cristopher Carrasco 2. Carrasco’s (1 IP, 1 R (0 ER), 0 H, 1 BB, 0 Ks) two-some came in the top of the 9th inning to give Delmarva its last lead.
Next week’s outlook: The Mudcats will bus four hours down the coast to Charleston, South Carolina to open their series with the Rays’ affiliate. Although no starter has been announced, 18-year old RHP Manuel Rodriguez (3.98 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, 8.2 K/9 in 40 2/3 IP) is most likely to get the ball for Game One.
We hope that you enjoy the Minor League Link Report. On Monday, DSL Brewers-1 has its season opener against DSL Padres Gold at 10:00am CST (DSL Brewers-2 open on Tuesday), the Brewers head to Philly for a 5:40pm game and the ACL Brewers (10-12) host the ACL Reds (11-9) at 8:00pm.
