Nashville Sounds placed LF Drew Avans on the 7-day injured list.

Nashville Sounds activated LF Jimmy Herron.

Milwaukee Brewers optioned RHP Easton McGee to Nashville Sounds.

For McGee, this is his fifth time being optioned this year. The Brewers can recall him one more time this year, but then he’ll have to stick on the major league roster or be subject to waivers if he is sent down again.

In his fourth outing at Nashville on his rehab assignment, Robert Gasser had mixed results in what could be one of his final appearances before a September call-up to the Brewers. Gasser earned the win as he worked a line of 5IP, 6H, 4ER, 2BB, 9K while throwing 52 of 78 pitches for strikes. Each number in that line was a season-high for Gasser, who came into Friday’s start with 2.05 ERA in 13.2 IP in the month of August at Nashville.

Offensively for Nashville, every single player had a hit, in a total team effort in the victory. Jeferson Quero had one of the key knocks on the night with this hard-hit two-run double:

Quero now has 19 RBI in the month of August while sporting an absurd .327/.375/.655 slash line in the month. The rehabbing Rhys Hoskins had two more hits, an RBI, and a steal and he looks ready to join the big league club when rosters expand this Monday. As a team, the Sounds went seven for eight on stolen base attempts in the game, which was pretty impressive as @Joseph Zarr pointed out.

The Biloxi Shuckers game was rained out, which means we have to wait another day to see if Jaron DeBerry can continue his excellence in AA.  The Shuckers will play two tomorrow:

Bandits Shut Out Wisconsin 5-0 - Quad Cities gets seven scoreless from Arronde

At Appleton, the Wisconsin Brats rolled out one of the most impressive prospect-laden lineups we’ve seen since… well… the April Carolina Mudcats:

Unfortunately, that lineup only produced four hits, three of which came from the eight and nine hitters in the lineup as Wisconsin was shutout on the night.

On the mound, Bishop Leston made his third start of the month for Wisconsin as he continued to build up after missing three months with injury. Letson worked 2.1IP, 4H, 2ER, 1BB and 3K on the night.

Nearly the entire defense was involved in that rundown, but damn if the guys don’t look good in the lederhosen.

Delmarva Pulls Away Late to Beat Mudcats

This was a tough loss for the Mudcats as they fell out of first place in the second half standings with the loss. In the final home Friday at Five County Stadium, a crowd of over 5600 fans watched the Mudcats slap together six hits, four of which were doubles, in the loss.

One of the lone bright spots for the Mudcats’ offense was Eric Bitonti, who has been a bit of a forgotten man lately as far as Brewers’ corner infield prospects go. Bitnonti entered Friday’s game with a .184/.284./303 slash line in August and had not produced an extra-base hit since August 16. In the first inning Bitonti roped a double to deep centerfield, but was stranded on third after his 17th steal of the season. Bitonti later added a sac fly for his 72nd RBI on the season, which is six more than anyone else in the Carolina League. Besides Friday’s firework show, Bitonti’s sac fly was the only “highlight” put out by the Mudcats’ social media:

Jose Anderson and Handelfy Encarnacion each had doubles as they continue to get their sea legs in full-season ball.

Mudcats’ starting pitcher Wande Torres deserved better while falling to 1-10 on the season with the loss. Torres threw 44 of 69 pitches for strikes across five innings, allowing just one run, five hits, one walk, and two strikeouts on the night.
