  1. TRWI7, I completely overlooked Smoltz. He is another great option. I didn't even mention Marquis because I think he would be a huge mistake by the Brewers. Marquis is having career year, yet still seems to walk a decent amount of batters. Sure he gets GB, but he has nowhere near the control that Pineiro has. Comparing the two is completely different. I think someone hit the nail on the head when they said that Marquis=Suppan.
  2. That's too bad. At least this is his sons last operation (they think).
  3. The latest update is up. Kendall continues to slip, but he looks like he still might get type B status. It would take a bad week by Kendall (even by Kendall terms) and a good week from Yorvit Torrealba for his to lose his status.
  4. Yeah, when I first looked at Pineiro I was thinking the same thing. However, his K/BB ratios have always been very good. Simply put, this guy doesn't walk anybody. Couple that with his ridiculous GB% and that makes for a good pitcher. Suppan surely cashed in on a decent season, but never looked anywhere near as good as Pineiro. I wasn't saying that I would love to see Pineiro as a brewer next season. If we signed him to a ludicrous contract, I would be disappointed. I was just saying that, if he came at the right price, he could be an option.
  5. You wouldn't want to take a look at Pavano or Duchscherer?
  6. Duchscherer seems like a great option. Depending on how cheap he is, he might be the best option for the Brewers. If he comes back strong, he would be an amazing addition.
  7. Yeah, I am definetly on board with trades, but I was just looking at options via the FA market. Also, please note that I didn't include every FA starting pitcher, only ones that I thought would actually make a difference. Somehow I thought that Kip Wells wasn't the answer for 2010.
  8. Link Out of the listed pitchers, who would you guys be most interested in? Keep in mind that the Brewers don't have unlimited funds.
  9. It's certainly a good problem to have either way. People to have to start looking how great of a trade Melvin made here. He traded Gillespie and Mercedes to get Lopez. Gillespie really didn't have a future here and Mercedes could be solid, but still this is a great deal.
  10. Why is Bush the whipping boy in this thread? Are you suggesting that we non-tender Bush and pick up Looper's $6.5 million option? I guess I am just not understanding your arguments. What is your plan with non-tendering Bush to help this team and not address the rotation?
  11. Haha, funny thing is I could see some team, like Baltimore, doing this.
  12. I still get goosebumps watching those videos. Man that was so awesome.
  13. First off, WAR is a very flawed stat to look at when it comes to starting pitching. Second, Dave Bush has not declined every year with the Brewers. After a disappointing 2007 Bush rebounded well in 2008. After a rough start to last year, he was one of main reasons we made the playoffs coming down the stretch. Obviously he was not as good as Sabathia, but without his pitching the Brewers don't make the postseason. His K/BB ratio is still good. His numbers are going to have to even out. I look for a great 2010 out of Bush. Are you really going to tell me if he was a starter on the FA market searching for a one year/$4 million deal you wouldn't pull the trigger on him?
  14. With a lack of starting pitching depth, your end all solution is to release Dave Bush. Sure he has pitched poorly this season, but non-tendering him would be a terrible idea. Do you really think Dave Bush is not worth $4 million next season?
  15. This is my article and, although I obviously understand how bad Kendall is, I'm not as sure that they won't try to bring him back. I have been one of Melvin's biggest supporters, but if Kendall is brought back that would be the last straw. Kendall is a terrible hitter and his defense is already declining. I cringe to think at what his numbers would be with 500 at bats next year. My only hope is if that happens, it's not only the Brewers roster.
  16. I just don't understand why Counsell is starting anymore. It really makes no sense. Playing him does absolutely nothing for this team.
  17. Sorry, I just looked. He gained type A status on September 6th. I'll change the thread title.
  18. Really, the last rankings that I looked at had him as a type B. Does anybody think that teams may be reluctant to give up their top pick for Lopez? He has played amazingly well this season, but I think there may be some hesitation. Also, I posted this to look at the Kendall situation. He is right on the verge of losing his status.
  19. I dont know if I would say Guthrie has control issues. He has averaged under 3 BB/9 the past three seasons.
  20. Like you said, there's no risk. Even if he doesn't mesh well with the team, we can just cut him lose. The reward far outweighs the risk. That's as long as he remembers how many outs there are in an inning.
  21. I am really sick of this talk that Suppan is a great back of the rotation starter. What has anybody seen this season that makes anybody call him "great?" The only thing that Suppan is great at is walking batters and not striking anyone out. He has the same number of K's as he does walks. His walks per nine have continued to increase while his K/0 have continued to decrease. I am shocked that more people are not on board for this trade, especially if the Cubs are willing to eat some of his contract. Although Bradley has struggled this season, he has still outhit Corey Hart. He has the ability to have an OBP of .400. Sure he is a headcase, but talent is talent. When the Cubs signed him I was worried. This news of his impending trade is music to my ears. I don't think he would be in this situation in Chicago had he posted what he did last year in Texas.
  22. Are you guys really saying that if the Cubs offered this trade you wouldn't take it? I mean, come on. Milton Bradley is a good hitter that could plug nicely into our lineup. Suppan is a garbage pitcher that really has no value in this organization. If give the same amount of starts next year, there is little doubt in my mind that Suppan would be outproduced by the majority of the pitchers in AAA, Burns included.
  23. Great point twri7, I couldn't understand what he is doing at all. Seriously, Bourgeois for Gamel. That's just bad. I just posted an article talking about this.
  24. I think there may be a thread on this already, but I couldn't find it. I just wrote about Macha on my blog. What do you guys think on Macha's future? I think he could be a good manager, but may have lost this team. I like his conservative attitude on the bases, but he has run this bullpen into the ground. How much of this seasons blame do you guys place on Macha? How would you rate him compared to Yost? Let's start an interesting discussion on what an ideal manager is. Here's the link to my article
