  1. Looks like Fernando Perez also coming back to the Cubs. Link
  2. In the dream world of getting more pitching, maybe we can get in on the "expanded" trade talks the Red Sox and Diamondbacks are exploring. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/11/justin-upton-rumors-thursday.html I am horrible at proposing ideas like this but maybe something along the lines of: Red Sox get Justin Upton, prospect? Brewers get Jon Lester Diamondbacks get Prince Fielder + 4 million dollars, Lorenzo Cain, and Daniel Bard
  3. Listach as bench coach for the Cubs.
  4. Yikes...this is getting tough to watch now. Yo struggling on the mound and our bottom of the order really struggling.
  5. I didn't even think about adding a free agent catcher before this post. I just assumed it would be a battle between Rivera and Salome. What's wrong with those two for a year? Let Lucroy spend a littlle more time in the minors, see what we have in Salome. If he takes the starting job great. If not, he learns the big league pitchers and spells Rivera maybe twice a week.
  6. I don't think Melvin is enamored with power as much as Jack Z. was. Though I think it's pretty easy to see we are a team predicated on power, I think any baseball fan would understand the importance of people getting on base for Braun and Prince. I think Escobar fits that mold. Will he have has growing pains? Sure. But I don't think he gets traded (knock on wood).
  7. Agreed that Buchholz is way out of our league for J.J. I think that's been covered ad nauseum in its own thread. I'd love a guy like Buchholz, Morrow, Niemann, etc that will be cheap and hopefully effective for years. Hoffman to the Rays sounds like a great fit. With Kazmir coming back around a little bit, you'd think the Rays still have to believe they are in it.
  8. I think we need Hardy in our lineup given where we are in the standings and our schedule going forward. Interesting idea with Buchholz though. He certainly wouldn't have as much pressure in Milwaukee as he did in Boston. It would also give us some flexibility in case we did consider making a move for Peavy.
  9. Not sure if this was discussed earlier or not, but I wonder if Hoffmann could help Sheets with the elusive changeup he could never really master. If he were to get good at it, maybe he could throw his curve less and put less stress on his arm/fingers/ear/etc. (just kidding on the ear part).
  10. Simply stunning. Thanks for the link. I can't believe this guy used to be one of my favorite players. Definitely does not represent himself very well. What a pity!
  11. I wonder why that draft philosophy from Jack Z.? Did he think baseball was going to go more and more to power hitters? Does it maximize a players value to hit homeruns and be in the spotlight all the time? Is it just easier to learn to play defense than it is to improve power numbers or plate discipline? Either way, I can't help but like what he built obviously. I think now we just have to trust our GM to make the right moves to improve our roster.
  12. Can someone help me remember why C.C. struggled at the beginning of this year with Cleveland? Was it his command? Velocity? I don't remember. Don't get me wrong, I'd be absolutely giddy if we had C.C. coming back, but I can only imagine the explosive reaction from our fan base if we drop 25 million per year on him and he struggles to start the season again.
  13. Love the first one! Very interesting ideas.
  14. I've got one in pinstripes that I am willing to sell.
  15. Earlier on in the season, I felt like it would be a no brainer to move Hart to center with LaPorta waiting in the wings...I guess now we have to actually make a decision. 10 million for Mike Cameron does seem a bit steep for me considering our payroll. Doesn't seem like he should make up that high of a percentage of our overall payroll. I'm on the DeJesus bandwagon, but I think it would take more than most would think now that he is showing signs of breaking out this year.
  16. Count me in on the list of people interested in buying tickets from someone if you decide you want to sell any of your tickets. I would also like to know if ticket prices increased from last year (I'm sure they did if regular season game prices went up).
  17. I know it's been mentioned on here before by someone, but I say go after David Price!!! One problem is that means Fielder has to DH with Pena at first, but that would prolong Prince's career. I don't know how available Price is or what his value would be right now. With Tampa contending this year, I think it would be hard to see them trading away a potentially huge asset for the next few years. What would we have to do? Fielder and a mid to high ceiling pitcher not named Jeffress?
  18. Any idea what round he projects to be? Definitely sounds intriguing.
  19. While we need to focus on this year because we have a great opportunity, I think you also have to look at next year, like a couple posts before suggested. I think the Brewers have to be thinking about LaPorta waiting in the wings. What happens then? Does Corey go to center? I would rather Gwynn be a role player and receive less at bats than LaPorta, but it does hurt our defense. All said and done, if TGJ nets us something decent in a trade, maybe that's what we have to do. But I think Yost and Melvin will send him to Nashville in case something happens to Cameron (remember he has concussion issues, albeit far less than Koskie) and because they like having a left handed power bat on the bench.
  20. Bruce struggled in ST (heck, Votto has barely shown he's ready) and Stubbs isn't ready yet either. Sounds like Dusty was just smitten with Patterson and that's why they signed him in ST (that and low risk, high reward). There has been talk of the Reds trying to trade Freel, though his value is down in comparison to what it was last year. I do think Hopper would still be a better option than Patterson though. I honestly don't think Patterson is a bad move on the roster for Dusty and the Reds right now. If by some miracle, he does start to realize SOME of his potential, the Reds are even scarier. If Bruce starts raking by mid-season and Patterson hasn't done anything, then I think that'd be the logical move to dump Patterson. But then again, this is Dusty we're talking about.
  21. AL WEST 1. Angels (3) 2. Mariners 3. Rangers 4. Athletics Even with Escobar gone, young guys like Adenhart can step up. A's could go into firesale mode. AL CENTRAL 1. Tigers (1) 2. Indians 3. 22. So I guess email is the best way to go...
  23. I have a Caldwell I can trade you for a Molitor.
  24. On ESPN's telecast of the Mets/Giants, they said the Giants have 3 first rounders and 3 sandwich picks. Geez! Talk about stocking your farm system with talent.
  25. Having grown up a Brewers fan first and Reds fan second (family around the Cincy area), I followed Wagner since he was drafted by the Reds. As much hype as he got when he first came in the league as a lights out pitcher and then faded into no man's land, I don't really see how he is much better than some of our other options, like Sarfate. I guess if you really want to dump Jenkins and his salary, it's not bad. I just don't see the Nats really wanting to make that move.
