  1. This is a game I would have kept Gomez in the lineup. Much better defense, obviously, plus I think Marquis may be a good match-up for him. Lucroy/Counsell/Gomez 6-8 sounds better to me. Hopefully that won't matter today, but it doesn't make it right.
  2. You don't think Braun gets pitched differently depending on whether it's a RH/LH pitcher? You don't think Fielder gets pitched differently for the same reason? Bottom line, pitchers will pitch to guys they think they can out. And Bettancourt can hit clean-up or 8th, and he'll still get himself out. I rather he do it hitting 8th. this whole "clearing the pitcher" thing is nonsense. If Morgan gets on base hitting 7th or 8th, it has the same effect of clearing the pitcher one batter sooner right? Wouldn't you rather give Morgan one more potential AB than Bettancourt?
  3. That's because back in the day you had a lot more complete games, maybe one reliever. These days, it's not uncommon to see 5 or 6 pitchers for each team in a game. That's probably the biggest factor in longer games, and I don't know how you control that. Plus, more runs are scored these days, meaning longer innings. Again, can't control the fact it takes longer to score 7 runs a game than 2. So shorter games would offer less scoring, which is what the youth, casual fans, etc. want. Chicks (and casual fans) love the HR. So you can have a 2-1 game that lasts 2 1/2 hours, but that won't be popular either. Personally, I think if the commentators did a better job of explaining strategy more casual fans wouldn't mind a pitcherd dual or a 3 1/2 hour game. Instead, broadcasters tend to dumb it down thinking fans don't want to (or can't) understand game strategy.
  4. I would go Morgan, Betancourt/Counsell, Pitcher. Then again, I have this weird habit of giving the best hitters the most possible ABs.
  5. I don't care if he hits 2nd, 5th, or 6th. There's just no logical argument to be made to bat him any lower in the lineup than that.
  6. I don't agree. Baseball is unique, and shouldn't be forced into speeding the game up. TV breaks are the result of breaks between innings and pitching changes, not the cause. I really don't see how you could ask the players to sprint out faster and warm up, tell the pitchers they have to limit the number of warm-up pitches, etc. And I really hate enforcing any rule that requires the pitcher to have a certain amount of time between pitches. What's next, a limit on how many throws to first to keep a runner close? This is all part of the game. A pitcher may want to wait a bit longer between pitches to freeze the runner. Or maybe there's disagreement between P/C on what to throw. The vast majority of pitchers want to work quickly anyhow, so I don't really see it as a problem. Baseball can't be forced into a certain time window, and I would never want it to be. If casual fans want to boo every time a pitcher throws to first to hold a runner, sobeit.
  7. I have no clue what Rickie is talking about, but i like it!
  8. That's it...need to throw that curve for strikes sometimes
  9. I know it's not a huge crowd, but could it be any more dead at Miller Park after a come back like this?!!?!
  10. He didn't hit him hard, catcher dropped the ball when he went to tag him....as Boggs was still about 18 steps from home...
  11. You don't have to be watching to know the answer to that question http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. Oh, by the way, for those of you who enjoyed my Hart prediction last night, here's an earlier prediction that should come in handy tonight. From the "Non Vent" thread a couple weeks ago: This team is about to go on a 12-3 tear, and that will be fun to watch. Well, a win tonight will make it official. Before you call your bookie, you should know I made this prediction before I knew RR would be going all Yost on the lineup tonight.
  13. Well, starting Kotsay and batting him 6th at least can be defended somewhat logically. (Not that I agree with it, but at least there's the lefty vs righty argument.) But Yuni 7th and Lucroy 8th? That can't be defended. Look, we don't know what's going on in the clubhouse, input RR is getting from Sveum, etc. So he may hvae a very good reason to sit Gomez and start Kotsay. I don't have a problem with that. But I would go Lucroy, Kotsay, Yuni. And I wouldn't have to think very hard.
  14. All these are great ideas. Reallignment, including ALL players in the draft, another WC team, etc., would love to see all these things. Ultimately though, MLB's biggest issue continues to be competitive balance. Whther that's addressed through more revenue sharing, cap, or both...that needs to be priority one with a bullet.
  15. You know RR finally got it right when a week goes by without any lineup comments.
  16. Please find new pic for Narvy, looks like he's going to pull about 17 muscles in various body parts, including his face. That's just not good kharma.
  17. Good news, if you like the Corey Hart prediction, here's something from the Non-Vent thread in the Major League Forum: This team is about to go on a 12-3 tear, and that will be fun to watch. So look for one more win tomorrow!
