  1. How's that one work? I tried tracing it without any luck. http://disciplesofuecker.com/mark-loretta-trade-tree-still-bearing-fruit/26414
  2. I finally decided that I wish to know what the Brewers' home run celebration (the overhead clap thing) is about. Surely one of you can enlighten me?
  3. Is there any market for these? I found a few around the house, with COAs from the Brewers. I feel like ebay isn't the way to go since shipping would be so expensive.
  4. It sure seems that Villar isn't seeing the ball well, but I'd suggest that some of it simply has to do with getting behind in the count. Fangraphs has him receiving a first pitch strike 73% of the time this season (it seems that ~ 60% is average). Maybe getting a few more favorable counts will help?
  5. Since you purchased them from the team I'm afraid to ask, but how much? IIRC I picked up most in the $20-40 range; I used to stop by the clubhouse store @ Brookfield Square a lot, and they'd discount stuff of guys no longer with the team. Either they stopped doing this or the discounted stuff flew off the shelves really fast, because after a while I stopped finding any bargains there.
  6. (SOLD) I am moving shortly and may lighten the collection some. I don't really want to go through the pain of listing and shipping these on ebay...is there anyone here who wants to take the whole lot off of my hands? Here's what I have: Mark Loretta: Cracked, #8 on knob Mark Loretta (2): Uncracked, lots of tar, number on knob crossed off, indicating use by someone else. Tyler Houston: Cracked, #9 on knob Bobby Hughes: Cracked, #31 on knob Ron Belliard: Cracked, number is taped over 2nd photo: Jim Bruske: How many of these are floating around? Bat is cracked. #88 on knob is crossed out Paul Bako: Bat shows use and is cracked. #9 on knob. Allan Levrault: Bat is cracked, #55 on knob Scott Karl: Cracked, #13 on knob Jeremy Burnitz: Cracked, number on knob is crossed off. All of these were purchased directly from the team. Shoot me a PM if you want to make an offer or for more photos/info. I don't want to have to ship these. I am currently living in N Ill. but make it through Milwaukee and the Fox Valley regularily. %5Battachment=1%5D %5Battachment=0%5D
  7. Reading up on Warren Spahn today. Things that I found interesting: - Spahn's amazing baseball career was shortened by a three-year military career. He fought in the Battle of the Buldge and won a purple heart. - Spahn led the NL in Ks for 4 straight seasons, 1949-52. His totals (151, 191, 164, 183) equate to K/9 rates of 4.5, 5.9, 4.8, 5.7. For reference, the current Brewers starters: Gallardo (8.2), Estrada (8.5), Grienke (9.5), Marcum (8.0), and Randy Wolf (4.9). Axford comes in at 15.4. - Spahn would smoke between innings - Spahn was 42 at the time of the famous 15+ inning shutout dual with Juan Marichal, which Willie Mays ended with a walkoff in the bottom of the 16th on Spahn's 201st pitch Game has changed a little, eh?
  8. I typically don't get worked up about lineups, but I just don't understand Hart leading off. Leads the team in extra base hits, doesn't get on base at an exceptional rate, doesn't steal anymore. I'm aware that he doesn't seem to like the pressure of protecting 3/4 hitters, but he's had plenty of sucess in the 6 hole over his career.
  9. Good topic. I've been thinking about cards lately as I've been downsizing my possessions ahead of a move. Like most of you, 99% of my cards aren't work anything as they are late 80's/early 90's. It's a little ironic though...the cards of this era are nearly worthless but this was the height of collecting. Nearly everyone I knew had cards. Even people marginally interested in sports or cards had a binder and would take part in trading among friends and neighbors. The high amount of interest in cards at that time seems to have resulted in cards values that won't be seen again. Remember the asking price of some of the cards back then? Cards that were out of my wheelhouse at the time (Yount and Molitor rookies, Uecker, Aaron, Spahn, and Mathews cards that would go for $20-50) I have since picked up on ebay for $5-10. Besides the crazy amount of product and higher pack/box prices, I believe that ebay was a game changer. It pretty much took the pursuit out of the hobby. I used to spend hours trading and going to the card shop looking for whatever I was chasing at the time (I liked Donruss Diamond Kings, and of course Brewers). If I was collecting now, I would just find them on ebay. No more buying packs, poring through friend's binders, or stacks of cards at the card shop. Unless you're looking high end inserts or graded cards, there's no chase left. That was a lot of the fun.
  10. Do you know if the streets around there are permit parking at night? I've parked near there on Sheridan but that was for a day game.
  11. DMiles, You are probably referring to the Yellow Line. Terminal is at 5005 Dempster St in Skokie. Line ends @ the Howard St station in Evanston, where you transfer to the Red Line. Red Line will take you right to the stadium. For a top notch sandwich (pricey, but also huge) to eat on the ride, stop by Kauffman's, a Jewish deli just east of the station in Skokie. To answer the original post, I'm going Tue and Wed. For Tuesday, just bought a pair of decent non-obstructed seats in the 200 level for $10 ea, inc. handing fees, on StubHub. For those unfamiliar, there are plenty of bad seats at Wrigley. Check out this site for explanations of the different areas: http://www.wrigleyfieldseating.com/
  12. Not an expert on Minn parks but the north shore of Superior is gorgeous and there are a few places to stay...one that I've camped at in Teddegouche (sp?). Goosebury Falls is a cool place to stop by for an hour or so while driving by. I don;t remember if they have campsites there. One nice thing about Minn. is that the park stickers are good for a full year, so buying one now will get you through until this time next year. Minn. parks don't allow alcohol so be discrete about any drinking.
  13. Wondering the same. Also, any story behind "C is for Cookie" (yes, the Muppets song) today during one of McGehee's ABs today? I thought it was pretty funny.
  14. My observation is that longer Amtrak routes get very low ridership beacuse business travelers will almost always opt to fly. It sounds like Chicago to MSP will take 5 or more hours. ORD-MSP (or MDW-MSP) is 1.5 hours, call it 2.5 with airport security, ect. Half the time. It's easy to make in in for a meeting and fly back the same day, while that would be difficult when taking the train. It may not be that much cheaper to take the train either...if they say it's $40-60 for Mil-Mad, I would guess that it's around $150 Chi-MSP. I live near Chicago. When I have traveled ORD-MSP, I have found the average fares to be around $220 r/t. I have booked fares as cheap a $120 r/t when there has been fare sales. When you consider the extra time the train takes, potential overnight stay, meals, ect., I couldn't imagine many business travelers not flying.
  15. Bell pitches for the San Antonio Brewers in '75...probably what the jersey is from. If so, I don't blame the seller for not knowing.
  16. FYI Gantner is signing at the T-Rats game on 5-17 http://wisconsin.timberrattlers.milb.com/promotions/index.jsp?sid=t572
  17. I was curious about that too. I looked it up and it is just a play on words...they are advertising the fact that you are on the strip and can play poker there.
  18. I agree with this statement...except for the hotel rooms.I would suggest the Golden Nugget when downtown. It's usually more expensive than other downtown options, but compared to the strip not bad. I stayed there for $60 on a Friday night last month. The Nugget is easily the nicest downtown hotel, and recently made a neat renovation to the pool area. They are currently building a new hotel tower. I second the reccommendations to at least check out downtown when in Vegas. It's neat to see all the old casinos, and, unlike the strip, you can walk from one to another in a matter of seconds. Also, slots are a little looser and table limits cheaper.
  19. Viz is due over $3 mil. this year and has a $500,000 buyout for next year. Probably not worth rolling the dice on him.
  20. For those of you in Comcast territory, the price for Extra Innings goes up after today ($159 to $199 IIRC). They have 24-hour customer service so you still may be able to call today and get the reduced rate.
  21. a website called gawker.com has a Pic of the Day, which occasionally is something interesting seen on Street View. Among the shots they have showcased are someone falling off of a bike, a drug deal on Chicago's south side, and a kid pointing a gun at another kid, also on Chicago's south side.
  22. Note that six of the worst trades occurred in the 1990s, while only one of the best trades occurred in that decade
  23. If anyone is still interested, I have a couple extra hotdogs. I am looking for the Fielder bobble from Sunday.
  24. Article detailing 99 years of underachievement, collapse, and/or ineptitude
