  1. I'm pretty sure that, by the time Prince got to the majors and realized his father had stolen his signing bonus, the family / Prince's grandparents had civil judgments renedered against them and were deep in the hole. He wasn't starving in the slums, but it must have had a hell of an impact on him. Plus I don't think Prince has ever asked or expected anyone to feel bad for him. The gist of the OP seems to be that if Prince doesn't massively undersell himself, he is an awful person.
  2. (1) Again, what has Prince actually said? You are totally projecting here. If money isn't that big of a deal, why not blame Attansio for paying what the market says Prince is worth? (2) Prince had an great NLDS and a series of great seasons. He doesn't have anything else to prove. (3) Braun signed an extension, he was not on the verge of free agency and does not have the same body-type concerns that Fielder has. Braun chose certainty over the risk that Prince took (that he would stay healthy, that he would earn his money). Look at Ryan Howard. Probably tore his Achilles. If not for the massive extension he had signed two years ago he would make jack @!*! next year. Berkman is one year removed from looking completely cooked. He might have left money on the table, but nowhere near the amount you are talking about and he is at the end of his career and this is Prince's first bite at free agency. (4) speaks for itself.
  3. You are totally right, Prince should leave upwards of FORTY MILLION DOLLARS on the table because the economy is bad. That is crazy talk. Hell, if forty million isn't that big of a deal, why shouldn't the Brewers give it to him? I don't see anything wrong with saying, like CC did, "I will always have great memories here, but the extra hundred million dollars the Rangers have offered me will set my family up for the next 10 generations."
  4. Who should shut up? Prince? Has he actually said anything? Given his experience with his Dad (making and then blowing a fortune and leaving the entire family in horrible financial circumstances) it makes sense to me that he should get what he can when he can. Professional athletes have a short shelf life, they need to make the most of it.
  5. Does anyone know where I can find 620's postgame stuff? I can't find it on their god awful website.
  6. Actually, as of January 16, 2011 the Brewers were at 40:1 odds to win the WS. I know because I have a $50 bet slip from a Vegas casino to prove it, lol.
  7. At the game on Sunday Braun tossed one of the balls he and Morgan were using to warm up into our section. There was a bit of a scrum, and the ball clanged off the gloves of about 4 adults before bunching right into the hands of a young vedor who was selling someone a soda and who hadn't been looking. She was totally surprised (and said it was the first time she'd ever actually got a ball in two years). Of course one of the fans who whiffed on his chance to catch it stuck his glove in her face for the next two minutes while she finished the transaction demanding the ball. She ultimately kept it, but man alive why someone would give her a hard time like that was beyond me.
  8. Yes, the people who are soft are the one's that don't see the merit in crying about being charged $5 more for playoff parking and/or being asked to leave by security an hour or more after the game ended and/or about the roof being closed and/or the wait for a portapotty in the parking lot and/or the type of people tailgating and/or the willingness of fans to hypothetically charge the field after a WS win.
  9. The easiest way to deal with all the traffic issues is to buy a house in Story Hill and walk to all the games or take one of the various bar shuttles. Works for me!
  10. He should come out to the Million Dollar Man's theme song. Prince is going to get paid like crazy this offseason, and he'll have earned every penny. Godspeed and good luck, you big beautiful man.
  11. Right, but this trade is horrible for Houston. For one of, if not THE, best pitcher in their franchise history (a pitcher who was the best player on the market following the deals ealier this year), they got a #4 SP, a 19 year old A ball SS, and a AA ball fringey outfielder. And they are paying Philly $12million. Nothing about that is good for the Astros. I'm sure we could trade Fielder for a pile of rotting garbage if we really wanted to, but I'd rather we didnt.
  12. ..or at least those parts of the south side not already on fire.
  13. From the Mariners side of things, you also have to note that one of their division rivals, the Angels, just lost their ace in Lackey. This deal stops the Angels from replacing Lackey with either Lee OR Halladay while also improving the Mariners.
  14. I'd be more interested in Myers if he didn't enjoy punching out his wife so much.
  15. Seeing this thread title is right near the top for me.
