  1. He was safe at 2nd..Rickie had the ball in his hand when he tagged him with the glove. Check the replays.
  2. I don't know why everyone one here hates running when Prince is up. The Phillies run all the time with Rollins and Victorino when Utley and Howard are up. If you can get runners to 2nd and 3rd with a guy that isn't hitting for a lot of power this year, why not try?
  3. Ya know, I know Yost gets all the flack on this site (and i agree w/ most), but when are people going to get on Melvin. I really don't know a great move he has made in the past two years. Sure he picked a few guys of the scrap heat when the Crew were terrible, but what lately? He is the one who put this bullpen together, he is the one who kept Yost around, he is the one who overpaid for Gagne, traded prospects for Linebrink, and traded for Estrada (granted got something out of him). Maybe I am wrong and overreacting to another frustrating bullpen performance, but it's just hard to watch the bullpen blow it night after night.
  4. Keith Law of ESPN and a former Special Assistant to the GM of the Blue Jays gave his assessment of the trade. While he doesn't really care for Linebrink, here is his evaluation of Inman. I think people on here need to relax. Melvin and these scouts know a heck of a lot more than we do about prospects. Will Inman is a performance prospect, but his stuff doesn't match the superb numbers he put up at A-ball. His fastball is just average, with a little bit of run; his command is below-average and he gets hit hard when he leaves his fastball up. His best pitch is his curveball, a slow, big-breaking pitch with decent depth, and he has a fringe-average changeup. He's small with sloped shoulders, so there's not much reason to expect him to add velocity as he gets older. He projects as a fifth starter at the big league level, maybe a fourth starter if his command gets better. In his favor, he's going to a park that is very friendly to this type of pitcher. 5. Please tell me why Jenkins is batting and not a guy hitting over .500 against lefties.
  6. This was in chat w/ Keith Law earlier in the year. I am not saying he knows everything, but he has been a scout in the majors and usually knows what he is talking about. If that is Inman's ceiling, I love the deal. Chris (madison): Keith, what do you know about Alcides Escobar, the Brewers rep in the Futures Game? Are there any other names on the farm Milwaukee fans should know? SportsNation Keith Law: He was really out of place - very young, very raw, athletic, but didn't look good compared to all the more polished guys there. Jeremy Jeffress has a tremendous arm, but of course he's very raw. Matt LaPorta may or may not be able to play LF (I'm a skeptic on that one), but he definitely has big power, arguably the best raw power in this year's draft. Will Inman has a chance to be a 4th-5th starter. That's about it at the moment; they got a little thin with all the promotions this year.
  7. I am beginning to wonder if Estrada has the same affect on the team/pitchers as Michael Barret did in Chicago and now San Diego. The Brewers are 19-9 with Miller starting and 37-35 with Estrada Starting. They have given up 110 runs with Miller behind the plate (3.92 per game) and 329 with Estrada (4.5 per game) I was counting earned and unearned for runs, so maybe its all just a conincidence, but it sure seems like the Crew does better with Miller starting. Speaking of Barrett, he was 24-28 when starting for the Cubs and without him starting behind the plate they are 28-18. For the Padres he is 5-13 in games started 49-33 w/o him in the lineup. Maybe there is a reason these good hitting catchers have each played for 4 teams. Man, I wish the Cubs would have kept him.
  8. I know I have stated this before, but how come Greg Aquino hasn't been brought back up. He looked very dominating in a couple of his early outings (see the FLA extra inning game) and then has two bad appearances in early April and is sent out. Balfour has pitched in 3 games, lost 2 of them and will probably get a another chance in the middle of a pennant race. I just don't get it.
  9. I'm not mad about Ned, not mad about Balfour. I expected a loss with the pen short. You don't burn out Cordero when it's tied on the road. So your options there are Spurling and Balfour. Pick your AAAA poison. Spurling would have probably blown it too, but with a HR instead. Estrada jogging out that DP ball drives me up the wall though. Either its him being inattentive or flat out lazy. Both are completely unacceptable in that situation. I think Grant is gone when Billy comes back. Having 13 pitchers is useless when one can't get an out. This is laughable to me. While I am not saying its Neds fault, how can you say not to burn Cordero? Who is the one guy that could get you out of that inning without a run? Cordero! I dont understand why he can only be used in a save situation. What does it matter if he is fresh for the 13th inning, if it doesnt get that far. Pinella used Carlos Marmol in the 6th inning this week and when asked why he stated that you need to use your best pitchers in desparate situations.. I totally agree!
  10. What is the score of the game. CBSSportsline has it 6-2 with Wise giving up only 1ER and Yahoo has it as 6-1??
  11. I'm not complaining about Vargas as our #5 starter, but is it just me or is he almost unbearable to watch. When he gets guys on base, it takes him forever to make a pitch.
  12. I will now gladly eat my words about Mench earlier in this thread. Way to get some runs for the kid!
  13. I agree. I know there are no other choices, but I just dont like the guy either. Any way Graffy can play LF? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  14. SP: Sheets SP: Oswalt SP: Harang SP: Gorzelany SP: Big Z LR: Villnueva SU: Lidge (Dominating in that role) Cl: Cordero C: Estrada 1B: Prince 2B: Phillips SS: Hardy 3B: Ramirez LF: Lee CF: Soriano (enough games to qualify) RF: Griffey RHB: Pujols LHB: Dunn
  15. I didn't say it was a bad start for Suppan, its just his ERA is nearly five and his WHIP is slightly above his career norm. (Maybe these are just thrown off by one or two really bad games) I will be the first to admit, I am not a TBOW guy, but when he is on, he is nearly unhittlable.
  16. Anyone else starting to question Suppan. I know he is just on a bad stretch right now, but he has only pitched out of the 6th inning in 5 of his 16 starts. In 2 of those 5 starts, he has given up 4 or more runs. Suppan: 8-7, 4.91 ERA, 87 ERA+, 1.49 WHIP, 48 K's Vargas: 6-1, 4.29 ERA, 92 ERA+, 1.50 WHIP, 69 K's Bush: 5-6, 5.12 ERA, 82 ERA+, 1.332 WHIP, 68 K's Most fans think either Bush or Vargas should be going to the pen when Cap comes back. If you look at these three, there really isnt much difference. While I know Soup isnt going to the pen, its kind of frightening knowing that he is the one making 11 million per year.
  17. Boy its nice to see Billy heating up. Even last night his outs were hard hit. And there's Mench being Mench
  18. I do like the fact that Ned is finally remaining consistent with his lineup, but does it make sense to bat Rickie behind Damien and Mench? If he hits a ball in the gap, he might just catch Damien rounding 2nd base. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Also, not sure what the prevailing thought is here as I am new to the site, but does I am not sure if I like Rickie hitting 8th. I am sure its just for a short time til he gets his cuts in, but its seems like it eliminates his speed on the bases. (stealing with the pitcher up)
