  1. I'm moving the topic. That means that the trade will probably happen and we'll have to move it back.
  2. Boras: "Milwaukee medical experts and reports were viewed as such by Texas doctors. Apparently a few New York doctors viewed the reports as 'cheesehead medicine.'"
  3. This topic probably belongs in the rumors forum at this point. But with the way things can quickly change, I'll leave it here for the time being.
  4. Gerardo is still in the lineup at this point. Stay tuned.
  5. Davis has replaced Gómez and is playing left. Parra has been moved over to center.
  6. BA just said that the trade is official and has been announced by the Brewers.
  7. I'm less apt to strip straight slot screws because they're a more forgiving target. I can't really see the slots in any kind of screw; that causes me to strip way more screws than othewise. If I'm able to have a choice, I'll get something that can be driven with a socket.

  9. That's different. 35 is safe, and 45 isn't. Also, on a surface street, speed isn't the only factor that determines the lane that drivers use. Turns come into play, for instance. The gurus say that the safest freeway speed is the 85th percentile. But that's for limited access roads. Surface streets have intersections, driveways, pedestrians, bicycles, pets, and whatever.
  10. The state told us that studies indicated that the average speed of traffic would remain unchanged with the new speed limit. The new limit simply acknowledges what people were already doing. While that makes sense, I'd have to think that people who are motivated by the speed limit and want to avoid tickets might be going a little faster. Before the change, I tended to go between 68 and 70. Now I go about 73. 68mph drivers shouldn't normally be in the left lane. The obvious exception would be when traffic is heavy enough that everyone's below the limit. Of course, the problem is that the right lane has the drivers that prefer to stick around 60. 75-plus shouldn't be a requirement to be in the left lane. The bottom line is that driving is a team sport. If you're blocking traffic in the left lane, you should move right as soon as traffic permits it. But you shouldn't be forced to go 55-60 in order to allow someone to go 80.
  11. Schroeder wouldn't call Segura a free swinger because "he doesn't strike out a lot." Oof. People like to blame strikeouts on not being patient, but I think that more often than not, the opposite is true. If a hitter is patient and sees a lot of pitches, strikeouts are going to happen. On the other hand, you have guys like Yuni; he certainly wasn't patient. He didn't strike out much because he put balls in play right away via weak grounders and popups.
  12. Continued here: Open for business (part 3) Feel free to carry on with any previous discussion.

  14. I think speed and defense peak earlier than other skills. I recall reading a long time ago that speed peaks at age 23. But brains are required for base stealing — and base running in general. Carlos Lee used to do steal, and even Prince did it occasionally. Speed just makes it easier.
  15. It might be easier to get a trap and release the squirrel far, far away. The Humane Society or your local animal control probably has one that you can use free of charge. If they're located sufficiently far away, you can probably return the trap with the squirrel in it and let them release it. A killing option might be mouse poison, but you have to be extremely careful if either you or your neighbors have pets.
  16. Craig said that his complaint was that Carlos "wasn't arguing with anybody." When a reporter pointed out that this was his first ejection as either a player or manager, Craig responded by saying, "It's a great news story."

  18. Just so it's clear if you didn't see the game and are just coming to this thread, Gómez attempted to steal second with one out in the top of the ninth and the team down by two. He was called safe, and the call was reversed. He threw down his helmet at second base (not on camera) and again around the first base baseline (shown on camera). Scooter followed with a double. The Brewers would have had two baserunners (if not a run), plus they'd have had one more out to play with.
  19. Yeah, it made no sense for Carlos to run. And it made less sense to get ejected (throwing his helmet). And it made even less sense to hang in the dugout for so long after the ejection that a suspension might be in order. Counsell's ejection was kind of cool, though.
  20. Being designated as an interstate simply means that the road is part of the system. I-43 in Wisconsin is an example of a primary (one or two digit) interstate that doesn't cross state lines. I-97, located entirely in Maryland, is under 18 miles long. All states plus Puerto Rico have interstate highways. In Alaska and Puerto Rico, interstate highway numbers are assigned for administrative purposes, however, the roads themselves are marked with state/commonwealth numbers. Alaskan and Puerto Rican interstates aren't required to conform to interstate highway standards. Few Alaskan interstates conform, while those in Puerto Rico tend to.
