  1. I don't understand the logic of: Some think the Rangers will still try to get Fielder to take a shorter deal than he is thinking but it would be hard for them to do the mega-deal that agent Scott Boras is seeking. I am not sure what is meant by "shorter" but they will be paying Darvish for the next 6 years, but I don't understand why would they be okay with paying Fielder for, say, the next 5 or 6 years when they will also be paying Darvish but not paying him for 10 when the last 4 years will be after the expiration of the Darvish contract?
  2. That's a total of over $18 million per year, seems like an awful lot for a guy who has never thrown a pitch in MLB. Plus I assume the $51 million to the Ham Fighters is all paid now, not spread out over the 6 years?
  3. Coke bottling plant is on Brown Deer Road in Milwaukee, I believe.
  4. Coke/Pepsi, Mtn Dew/Mello Yello...who cares? My annoyance with soda availability at restaurants is they almost never have anything diet except Coke or Pepsi. I don't like cola and I don't want 200 or more empty calories from sugar. All I want is a diet 7up, sprite, sierra mist, fresca, or 50/50...any variety with a citrus based flavor will do. I now often just bring my own bottle of water or soda in and drink it at fast food places. At restaurants, if I am not having a beer, I'll ask if they have any diet soda beside cola and when the answer is no, I just take water. Of course, the better fast food option is to go to Chipotle or Qudoba and get an XX Amber or something.
  5. the Mello Yello Bordello http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif Certainly can't use Canada Dry for anything but the family sections...look out Kohl's.
  6. Yeah didn't intend to... "I'd say that the strategy Boras had him follow was a failure" would have been better stated as: "Prince having followed Boras' strategy was a mistake, because the strategy failed." (and this is only if he ends up settling for little more than he'd have gotten from the extension)
  7. He is certainly not going to fire his agent at this time, but... Since prior to the 2010 season, he was supposedly offered $120 million for 6 years: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/137118098.html and he instead ended up taking about $25 million for 2 of those 6 years, had he signed an extension with the Brewers it would effectively have meant $95 million for the additional 4 years. We'll see what happens, but if after having taken the risk of passing on that $120 million, he now ends up signing for something like 5 years/$120 million, I'd say that the strategy Boras had him follow was a failure.
  8. According to this: http://mlb.mlb.com/news/a...6&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb it is. That indicates that the only big signing that came later was Jan. 26, 2005, the day when Carlos Delgado ended a long free agency by signing a four-year, $52 million pact with the Marlins. Then there is this, indicating things have not gone well for Boras' clients this off-season: http://msn.foxsports.com/...salvage-offseason-011212
  9. But that was also the case when he turned down the safe and secure $100 million for 5 years from the Brewers.
  10. I'm starting to think there is at least a small possibility that Boras overplayed his hand and Prince may end up regretting that he did not just take the 5 year $100 million offer from the Brewers.
  11. So did that blow-hard Belling ever follow-up on this "big" story?
  12. This is simply not true, it is choice he has made. While he may have good or at least strategic reasons for not speaking, there is nothing preventing him from saying, for example "I was taking X because _____ and this is what cause the test results". The best thing he can do is come out, admit to everything and be completely honest. The situation will die a lot faster if he tells the whole truth.
  13. AirTran ----> Southwest http://www.bizjournals.co...-take-over-airtrans.html
  14. Well, that's what the do all the time..."tonight at 10, really important stuff that you want to know about". We could just tell you all about it in these 30 seconds, but we won't... Why would anyone bother watching TV news these days? I mean I can understand if you are 85 years old or something or if it is on as sort of background noise in the morning, but does anyone actually still sit down and watch these shows for 30 minutes at 9 or 10 pm? I think it is channel 58 that advertises that you will get to see the weather right away, if you watch their 10 o'clock (or maybe it's on at 9) news show. Uh, yeah, or I can turn on channel 4-2 or one of the PBS channels or look on line and get the weather right now.
  15. Because neither side can say anything. Let's make that "I have Graves' disease for which I am taking X". Then he is not stating anything about MLB testing, he is merely choosing to reveal a medical condition, which is not prohibited by anything. So now, given that Ryan Braun is a person who is very concerned about his public image, his reason for not revealing that he has this disease is...???
  16. That just sounds like total grasping at straws to me. ...and if this is the reason, he's not just coming out and saying "I have Graves disease and my treatment for this caused the failed test" because??? ...and the treatment included synthetic hormones, but he did not inform MLB that he was taking synthetic hormones because??? OTOH, it looks like this was diagnosed way back in 2009 "he looks like he has Graves disease" at: http://kerridavidson.blog...hy-i-cant-stay-ryan.html
  17. Yeah, that is kind of what I meant by "not known", not just that Braun was intentionally ignorant, but that it was a surprise even to the Doctors that it caused him to fail the drug test. ...not that I am really buying the new rumor, which sounds exactly like last weeks herpes rumor
  18. They certainly seem to me to have a list of banned substances. http://mlbplayers.mlb.com/pa/pdf/jda.pdf section 2: All Players shall be prohibited from using, possessing, selling, facilitating the sale of, distributing, or facilitating the distribution of any Drug of Abuse, Performance Enhancing Substance and/or Stimulant (collectively referred to as “Prohibited Substances”). Some other excerpts: A test will be considered positive if any Performance Enhancing Substance as defined in Section 2.B of the Program is present (testosterone is listed). a Player is not in violation of the Program if the presence of a Prohibited Substance in his urine was not due to his fault or negligence. the Player...has the burden of establishing that his test result was not due to his fault or negligence. A Player cannot satisfy his burden by merely denying that he intentionally used a Prohibited Substance; the Player must provide objective evidence in support of his denial. So if he took a medication that is not on the prohibited list or included in the more general description of PEDs and he can show that the medication caused the test results and that it was not known that this would happen, that would perhaps appear to meet the requirements for winning an appeal.
  19. There may have been many using at more moderate dosages all along and all that has changed is the extreme users have gone away. I assume at more moderate dosages, you'd not see such noticeable changes in physique or the extreme levels of performance enhancement. If I understand correctly MLB allows up to a 4:1 T/E, before they would even look further. Since for most the normal ratio is about 1:1, this would seem to leave a lot of room to boost T for many. In addition, why could one not simply take epitestosterone and mask a high level of testosterone in order to keep the ratio below 4:1 and avoid having them go beyond the screening test? Hmm, let me see what google tells me about this, let's try "how to beat mlb drug testing". Top result confirms it's probably pretty easy to do: http://sports.espn.go.com/espnmag/story?id=3662262
  20. An interesting provision of the agreement related to that is: 4. Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in the Program, either Party may disclose publicly details of a Player’s test results, testing history and/or the Player’s challenge to discipline imposed pursuant to Section 8 below to the extent necessary to respond to any inaccurate or misleading claims by that Player that could undermine the integrity and/or credibility of the Program. http://mlbplayers.mlb.com/pa/pdf/jda.pdf Now that might explain the real reason Braun is himself not making the statements attempting to discredit the results of his test, if he did it would free MLB to talk.
  21. My intent has to say he should have done one or the other...shut up or tell the whole story. There was a comment that Braun can't comment on the issue at hand... I had pointed out that he and his team have commented. If you're not going to talk about it don't, but don't tell me, my lawyers advise to to not talk about it and them put out selective comments and have your people feeding information to the press.
  22. As I also said, at this point I neither know nor care...though to me, the fact that this was not dismissed after the initial meeting does lead me to believe Braun was doing something. Did not mean to imply that anyone who leans toward believing him is delusional at this time, but there will be some who continue to believe Braun did nothing that violated the agreement even after he loses the appeal (assuming he does) and serves his 50 days.
  23. As I understand it, that defense is not going to work. It's the same thing Palmeiro tried to no avail. Claiming you didn't know drug-supplement-vitamin X would elevate your T levels is not a justifiable defense. Otherwise every one would claim this. Exactly, which is why this all just seems like spin and half-truths by Braun's team. I am trying to react to the information the same way I would if it were some else, like say, Pujols. I don't know (or really care) if he is "guilty" or not, but none of the leaking from Braun's team has seemed to amount to any kind of defense that is going to meet the required standard, so he will most likely be out for 50 games. The only difference with it being Braun, rather than, say, a Cardinal is that I say that's too bad that they are not going to have him for 50 games in Braun's case, while in the other case I'd say good the Cardinals will have to get by without ______ for 50 games. Just because Braun happens to wear a Brewer uniform does not mean I am going to delude myself into thinking that he, while seeming to be a pretty decent guy, is anything other than another cocky, arrogant, athlete who will do whatever he thinks he can get away with to gain an advantage. Kind of like the portrait of him that Anthony Witrado has "painted" here: http://aol.sportingnews.c...-suddenly-is-in-question
  24. http://sports.yahoo.com/m...un_ped_suspension_121111 So what happened? Did Braun's team hold back information that would have made this go away so that they could spring it on MLB at the appeal? If you were going to court, would you state your specific defense and tactics to the public before your trial? Tactics? I thought he was completely innocent...what tactics are needed besides stating the truth? Why is Braun's team not simply remaining silent, why did they, as Passan put it: "Leak, leak, leak...to FoxSports.com and the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and the New York Daily News, little tidbits intermingled among Sunday’s NFL action". Also again, given the meeting that was supposed to have occurred, one would presume the basis of Braun's defense would already have been presented to MLB at that time.
  25. If, as he has claimed, he is completely innocent and it's all BS, how would simply stating the truth and giving factual answers to any questions jeopardize his appeal? Instead we have gotten plenty statements coming and/or leaking from Braun's "camp" that sound like spin and half-truths, such as: "There are highly unusual circumstances surrounding this case which will support Ryan's complete innocence and demonstrate there was absolutely no intentional violation of the program," So their are highly unusual circumstances that will prove that he is innocent, but stating exactly what those circumstances are right now will somehow jeopardize his case next month? and "...there will be a defense. It's not something he knew or should have known about." But revealing right now the details of what he didn't know and should not have known about would somehow jeopardize his case next month?
