  1. TH originally had Burdette listed as a LHP... he was getting "lit up" for it in the comments section and it has been since "updated". A Sanchez is shocking -- I NEED to know who's vote that is.
  2. While I continue to hold onto hope for resigning CC, he is gone. Additionally, if we do sign him, I wouldn't want it more than 3/$65; thus again, it won't happen. I think we loose both SP, sign another veteran (Lowe would be great) and hope for the best with Yo and Manny. I think, if you can't trade him, you set Suppan as your #5 and look to fill in #3 and #4 -- giving McClung a solid chance at that. Bush -- I like him more than I did a year ago, but I have always liked his work ethic and attitude. If Fielder must go, great -- I can't wait to see what we get for him. Please don't let JJ go... solid player that won't have that crazy contract. As for Gamel and Escobar -- weren't they in Double A for the majority of this past year? Why so much discussion of them helping us out in '09? I just don't see it... As mentioned, I see 2009 as a .500 year with progress in '10 and bigger things in '11.
  3. Good thread -- great way to word the concern of "what do we do now?" #1 -- Rickie Reeks. This guy has to go -- I am one to hang onto potential, particularly since we have the 'condition' of small market, but I am ready to give up. Beautiful bat speed, but he has yet to do anything with it. #2 -- Hall is the obvious answer, but I just don't see anyone taking him. So, he does need to be regulated to the bench and we need a full time 3B. Additionally, we need Prince one more year. Corey -- wow, we are all quick to give up on him, but given the correct return, it is time. As mentioned earlier, good trade return and easily replaceable. On a side note, if we are going to give JJ a new position (I hope so, I do not want to see him traded) why don't we start now and maybe use Hall as the SS stop-gap to Escobar?
  4. On a different note... I think this is a situation where if you have an agent that promises big things down the road, stepping up and paying off the debt (with interest, obviously) would be the stand-up thing to do. Not to mention take some pressure off of your rising star... Now, let's see what REALLY happens with SB...
  5. While I would agree that it is "highly unlikely" that Prince brought this on himself; we don't know ANY of the facts. With that said; regardless of who in the end created the debt, it is ultimately Prince's problem to solve. Based off of what I choose to assume, yes I feel sorry for Prince -- particularly now that it is public -- but I doubt there is an out-clause on the lawsuit if your father is the culprit. (edit: gots to work on my grammar)
  6. Perhaps, yes. And I may even agree that might be the case with Prince; however, I wish my company would based my annual raise not only on performance, but also my personal financial background -- I would have the boats, snowmobiles, and "weekend" car by now. Create-the-debt-and-the-raises-will-come-accordingly is not a real life circumstance, and if that is why Prince is a bit pouty this year, well then, I hope he moves on to his AL team sooner than later.
  7. Crocs are comfortable and great for around the yard (on/off-easy for in/out-ability); however, I am not sure they are for public consumption (see: slippers). Now, off to start a new thread: Can adults where Heelys?
  8. Count me as one of them... However, it did help me early on in life to accept the fact that I may not understand everything the Brewer's brass may choose to do -- something that has paid off extreme dividends.
  9. This team has never been about small ball, SP that shuts down teams and RP that can hold onto 1 run leads. It's always been about hitting so many HRs that we feel we have something to complain about -- something that has truly yet to happen this season. Thus, things will have turned around when: 1) Prince hits a HR every 3-4 days. 2) Braun and Hart continue doing what they are doing (well, Braun needs to bat his usual .320-ish). 3) Hardy and Hall are doing something with the bat (Hardy is beginning to). 4) Minimal injuries and at least one call-up that starts opening some eyeballs. 5) I can finally say, "Man, Rickie has been hitting the seams off the ball these last couple of weeks!" (no pun intended, really!). Honestly, while I agree LOB is not necessarily a negative stat; right now, I would be happy with regular high LOB numbers. A little consistency there would only show the need for a simple shake up in the line up -- right up Nedly's alley.
  10. I essentially 'second' Littledoc: Starters: 1. Sheets 2. Gallardo (Cappy) 3. Suppan 4. Villanueva 5. Vargas Relievers: LR: Bush LS: Shouse MR: Torres MR: Mota MR: Turnbow SU: Riske CL: Gagne AAA: Stetter AAA: McClung AAA: Parra I think Riske gets the 8th over Turnbow. I think Vargas locked up the #5 spot. I think this buys time to decide what to do with Cappy/Bush while Yoga is out. I think Parra comes up when the inevitable happens, a.k.a. Sheets goes down (then turns into a Vargas/Parra battle when Sheets comes back). I think Stetter/McClung will see 'some' time at the big league level this year; meaning someone else will be called up and see 'considerable' time -- (Pena?) with Mota being the question mark in the BP. I know I will be baffled if Villy starts at AAA. I guess I will also be baffled if Vargas isn't in the rotation.
  11. Billy Hall -- 2008 NL Comeback Player of the Year Gagne, Cappy, Sheets, Turnbow to follow (from the Crew) -- these individuals "need" to have comeback years. Weeks will have a "breakout" year, not a "comeback" year.
  12. Thus why, I agree that the number of blown saves is the important number -- opportunities (bad team/no wins vs. good team/blowouts) have a lot to do with the closers chance at 40. So, if he doesn't blow his chances, he is a good closer. Would feel that less than 8 over the full year is acceptable.
  13. CLE over NYY (3-1) BOS over ANH (3-2) ARZ over CHC (3-1) COL over PHI (3-2) CLE over BOS (4-2) COL over ARZ (4-2) CLE over COL (4-1) (So no CLE vs ANH - Miller Park rematch)
  14. Capuano gets the first shot at #5 being the LH in the rotation... this turns Bush into the #6 SP/Long Relief. Parra takes Villy's spot in the pen (young guy making the adjustment). McClung and Spurling step up. King??? sans some lbs sticks around. Out -- Wise, Turnbow (trade), Shouse (age) Cordero stays -- Linebrink???? I still don't think the guy wants to be here, but DM would have a hard time letting him leave after what he gave up. Infield -- I think Dillon and Vinny battle to the end of ST... Outfield -- Gross/Hart/Hall are locks, Gwynn barring trade plus a semi-major addition. Sheets HAS to exercise/train this winter!!!!!!!!!!
  15. And remember, the Crew is not winning with a bunch of last-minute, washed-up, signees... Well, lately you can just remove "with a bunch of last-minute, washed-up, signees..." I hear you, TLB... the Cubs have been doing us a favor the last couple of days. I'm honestly really looking forward to it being over. Maybe after tomorrow night. As much as I want the Crew to make the post season -- seriously, how far could we make it with our 'pen and streaky hitters?
  16. I've been a Brew Crew fan for 30+ years -- barely recalling 1982 -- and as much as the last 10 or so days have made me sick... hey, the Packers are playing regular season games... and I am WELL in tune to what the Brewers are doing. The true definition of bittersweet... And remember, the Crew is not winning with a bunch of last-minute, washed-up, signees...
  17. Linebrink back on Saturday. Yost also mentioned sticking with 13 pitchers. Wise might be a good guess if he has options and throws 10 straight balls tonight. But my guess says we see Dessens for the last time tonight.
  18. Sure... maybe these things do go on all of the time. But, this one went public -- so that fact alone better spark a fire somewhere. And to compare this to the Cubs? Let's remember that the Cubs didn't start their stretch until one of those "invovled parties" were removed from the clubhouse -- something that probably won't happen here.
  19. Roger that, on the fact the initial target may have been JJ -- and then his teammates defended him. Nevertheless -- we are going to find out in the next 10 days what kind of team we are dealing with in '07.
  20. My thoughts out to his wife and kids... I've alway rooted for this guy -- wanted him to have success with the Brewers. Just something really impressive how this guy stuck it out through minor league season after minor league season. Am I wrong, but didn't he have a HR with his first AB with Milwaukee?
  21. The Brewers will be fine. Baseball is a game of streaks, or maybe a better term, stretches. Yes, the Cubs are on a nice stretch now -- but it will come to an end. And maybe better yet, they'll have a losing stretch to reciprocate the current. Additionally, the Crew still has a 3.5 game lead. If this were the end of the season, we would be saying they nearly 'owned' the NL Central (granted, it's not that good anyway). We were all just pampered with a 8/9 game lead for most of the season. Holding onto the division by a couple of games is the reality of it all. Additionally, the Brewers will not miss Sheets like they did last year (I predict a winning record in his misses). And when he comes back, he will be the missing link that launches us through September into October. Also, the hitting will bounce back just like it will probably take one more dip this season -- its all part of the ride.
  22. Additionally "Honus", Pence was actually drafted by the Brewer's in the 40th Round of the 2002 draft. Not sure of the full story as to why he isn't still here, though.
