  1. Some pre-opening day math: Woman + Brewerfan.net = Love I'm on my way to get a ring. In all seriousness, welcome aboard ewizabeff. Part of me died inside at the thought of a rain-out.
  2. Great post Greg. I felt like the time we got from many of the players who are no longer with the club was being ignored as well. To zero in on the Sexson deal, I thought it was important to add average or better players to a team that often had scrubs playing big innings. While I don't like every move either, I think Melvin has been above average. I also agree that avoiding a crippling long term albatross like Hammonds' contract has been crucial. For this reason, I can't see how anyone would have a beef with the Cameron or Gagne deals. Even if they are colossal busts, what do we really have to lose? I am extremely pleased that both players could be had for one-year deals.
  3. That head takes up a lot of valuable ad space.
  4. Best wishes to Cappy in his recovery. He strikes me as a guy that will land on his feet. Whether that would be in baseball or not is the question, but if anyone can come back from two TJ's I think it's him. Being a soft tosser, will work for him, I think, and let's not forget that he's a fitness buff that will dedicate himself 100 percent to rehab. Hope we talk about him as a candidate for comeback player of the year in '09.
  5. Some nice points kramnoj. I think that no matter how you slice it, this seems to be a good signing, much better than say the Lee signing. The only way this could really be bad is if his weight led to a chronic injury situation (like a knee) where he was either not on the field or not the same type of player. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the Tigers would be insured to some degree against the former.
  6. Thanks DHonks. Didn't realize I'd typed that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif That would be even more difficult, in my opinion.
  7. The only thing Simba's missing compared to the absolute greats Bench, Fisk, is homers. He has respectable HR numbers and ranks near the top of the other important categories. Hits, AVG, doubles, RBI. It would be a crime to keep him out.
  8. Does PECOTA remember that they play in the NL East? Not exactly the easiest division. That said, I wouldn't mind the Rays approaching or surpassing the Yanks won total.
  9. hey pedro count me in for the weeks ball or vuckie bobble if there's a drawing. thanks so much. phil
  10. I think some people are still mad they paid full price for City Slickers 2.
  11. I'll take a crack at it. Thanks much Pedro!!!
  12. Had to agree with the bulk of the article. Thanks for posting!
  13. I didn't see the game, but I saw BP yesterday, and Billy looked like he had an idea up there. Even people who are athletes can look pretty stupid trying to hit. I was way impressed. I think he'd put me to shame now. I can't imagine how bad I'd look thirty-plus years from now. My hat is off to him.
  14. brian is being modest. this is THE site for the brewers. i can't imagine a better source for all things brewers, or baseball in general for that matter.

  18. I don't why we can't have both. Last year was the big anniversary celebration, so I see how people are a little tired of '82, but I think it's a nice change of pace to quietly do it on Fridays. Plus, it brings extra merch bucks to the clubs.
  19. In my mind, this was an inexcusable blunder by Yost, and we shouldn't muddy the waters by blaming Turnbow or Fielder or anyone else. Bottom line, you don't give a guy a free ride in that situation. You never want to put the leadoff man on, but you really don't want to bean him as part of a vendetta with a one-run deficit in the tightest possible playoff race. This move speaks volumes to me about Nedly, and he almost deserves to get canned for it alone. Even more troubling, however, is that he can't see that he's done anything wrong. In fact, it's our fault, because we don't have the insight into the game that he has. Please. Get rid of this doofus and replace him with Simmons ASAP. Maybe Ned can find a spot in Dale Jr.s' pit crew.
  20. Maybe Ned's replacement is already on the scene. I'm not sure I'd mind Ted Simmons taking over the job in June.
  21. Sign me up for Hall & CV the Younger for Bedard. It's a lot to give up, but where else could the Crew fond pitching like that?
  22. 1st trade Hughes/Cabrera to Twins Santana to Yankees Brewers Rolen/Flores to Crew (Cards pick up 8M overall) Capuano/Gwynn/Mench to Cards
  23. I know that Ron Santo isn't going into the Hall as a broadcaster, but I think many here are a little unfair to him. He's a color guy, not a play-by-play guy, after all. And yeah, he is a homer, but I know that I LOVE when the color guy bleeds with the fans. Take Larry McCarren, on Packers broadcasts, for instance. (i know he's much better than ron) The emotion they display is nice, unlike some gun-for-hire, who you know is insincere. Cub fans love Ronnie. I don't think he's a moron, and he has sort of an everyman working-class appeal. Other ex-players have more insightful things to say, but not all of them endear themselves to their fans the way he has. And while I'm sure that Pat knows he has to be the pro in the booth, I have little doubt that he loves working with Santo.
  24. Dear DM Please reconsider firing Nedly if Joe Torre is available. Sincerely That little voice in your head
  25. Disagree, Clancy. The Crew was relatively injury-free. If we are giving Ned a free pass based on this season's injuries, he'll be happy to know he's now manager for life. We should still be playing. Ned has to man up for once and accept some blame.
