  1. Two back to back infield singles off of Rogers kind of hurt his line ... not line drive hits...otherwise he was ok on the mound....I saw Brent Brewer last August in Vero Beach and I commented that he looked lost....tonight he looked really on his game...Luetge (sic) changed speeds for 4 innings really well tonight....
  2. He should be sent back down to Nashville for around a month to delay his arby clock...at that time if he is hot bring him up for good.
  3. Talked to a scout tonight that was at the Anundsen no hit game last week and he was not overly immpressed. We did get to talking about some guys he has seen over the last few years in the FSL and he was impressed with Escobar when he was at Brevard saying that he had star like qualities at that time. He never saw Braun in the FSL but raved about Maybin and Bruce when he saw them in the FSL.
  4. September call ups......can he be ready to pitch some relief innings by then? Any recent word on his status?
  5. Saw the game. Random thoughts. The one hit Jeffress gave up was a slicing flair that caught the left field foul line with a lefty at bat. Only one ball hit squarely off him tonight and it was foul but not hit very far. Jeffress was in the dirt atleast 12 times tonight. He was also high and wide quite a few times where Lucroy lunged just to catch them. I was most impressed by Lucroy not letting even one get past him. Lucroy had a pefect through to second on a steal attempt tonight. Perez was playing second base and dove to catch a liner then doubled off the runner at first. Both great plays. A clean ground ball play by Green at third, do not know if he has the range to play second at the MLB level. Brewer looks physically impressive but struck out looking twice. Walked off with his head down both times. Not sure if he can hit the curveball. The Manatees look to have pretty good plate discipline, not alot of free swinging like the Milwaukee club. Jeffress fastball was just that and he mixed in a couple of nice curves that broke well when he didn't spike it a la Turnbow. Needs polish but you can see the raw speed of his fastball. Both Manatees homers cleared the fence by maybe 10-20 feet. Greens was a line drive but it did not look like he fully followed through. Green puts a bat on the ball every time up. Again, odd to see after watching how wild swings by the MLB team all year.McClendon had some decent stuff. Mixed it up. Kept hitters off balance and good control, a little awkward of a delivery. Baron was a little like Shouse, got the job done.
  6. I believe we were 14 games above .500 at one point last year. Does anyone know when the last time the MILWAUKEE BREWERS were 15 games above .500? (clarified thread title --1992)
  7. He has some experience and decent numbers this year. Would a couple of prospects ( 11 - 25 ) do it? How about #12 Luis Pena Could fill Rhodes spot in the pen and #19 Brad Nelson Could fill corner infield or corner outfield positions for Seattle
  8. I might just head over to the Disney Milk House next Thursday in my Braun shirt and cap if I can move some things around,,,,anyone else going to be in Orlando? I must say I do like the approach of signing veteran guys (proven track record) to one year free agent contracts. You know they are playing for the next years contract and if they do not resign with us you can get a sandwich pick or two!
  9. That sounds like large market George Steinbrener talking...even they don't win every year and sometimes they cannot even buy their way in at the end....especially without starting pitching. I know we were all waiting a very long time for Milwaukee to have winning season and now waiting for the playoffs finally. There is a long way to go is all I am saying.
  10. I did say around 85 wins...sorry I wasn't exact on the percentages....39 - 22 (63.93%) at home and 22 - 28 (44.00%) on the road the rest of the way gets them there.....and with our TRUE ACE down for the 4 months at least an above .500 record would be an accomplishment to me this year. How many games were we over .500 last year??? We were in it until the last week right???
  11. There is a long way to go is what I am saying. Every team has its hot and cold streaks every year. 51 games have been played with 111 to go. 61 home and 50 on the road. Win 60% at home and 40% on the road which is close to what they have already done...this would put them around 85 wins. Right around what it is going to take to get in the playoffs ( which we have not done in a while ). Again, a long way to go...get back on the band wagon!
  12. than the Brewers up to this point.
  13. Who would we have to include in this deal to make it an even trade???
  14. Let me start by saying Dodgertown is a great quaint location to take in a Spring Training game and Sarasota beaches are the best in the state in my opinion. If I am Mark or Doug I would think they might be looking more at an open parcel to develop in the Orlando and Tampa areas. It is not only going to be spring training for the MLB club but a site for Rookie League team and Florida State League A+ team. You can also look at the small possibilty of making it the location for your Southern League AA team or International League AAA team in future years. Midwest Airlines alone has 3 flights a day to Orlando with only 2 1/2 hour flight times ( It probably sounds like I lobbying). I made the move 6 years ago with that being a big bonus to get back to the land of cheese easily. As a business move I am suprised more teams do not look at the Orlando area for their operations away from there home city. I would just as well ask Orange County and City of Orlando leaders to make seperate proposals to take on the Brewers as well.
  15. The Brewers will be drafting at slots 16 32 35 53 54 62 While glancing at the draft order I only saw two other teams with 3 picks max within the top 62. I may have missed something? This should be a very exciting draft for Jack Z and all Brewer fans. Time to stock up on a new wave of young players to follow for years to come.
  16. Jenkins (.795 OPS) is from the state of Washington and might not be in our plans next year anyway takes Ibanez (.701 OPS) spot. Vargus (4.47 ERA 8-2) has high value right now and SEA needs starting pitching. It opens up room for Parra, Gallardo and Villanueva in the rotation. Gross moves back to MIL in Jenkins roster spot. Sheets off DL in Vargus' spot. Clement goes to NASHVILLE to catch and moves up to MIL in 08. Lots of arby years ahead. Trade Estrada in the offseason. Clement, the third overall selection of the 2005 draft by the Seattle Mariners, is batting .272 with 26 doubles, 16 home runs and 54 RBI for the Tacoma Rainiers as a catcher (Pacific Coast League-AAA). The left-handed slugger hit .370 in the month of June with eight home runs and 23 RBI. AAA All-Star. Mateo goes to NASHVILLE bullpen moves up to MIL in 08. Helps shore up certain losses in the bullpen next year. Julio Mateo (AAA) 3W 1L 0.85ERA 22 Games 11 Saves 31.2 IP 2 BB 28 K's 0.79 WHIP.
  17. According to the nashville in game broadcast he is being moved to the AAA pen because that is where his future is with Milwaukee. R. A. Dickey is going to the rotation. EDIT: Subject clarity (and thanks for bringing this to our attention. We love the fact that folks are tuning in to bring us tidbits from these minor league broadcasts.)
  18. Anybody know what it is this year, or atleast what it was last year??? LaPorta is represented by agent Scott Boras, renowned for driving hard bargains. But as a college senior, he has little or no leverage and is expected to sign soon for the MLB-recommended signing bonus of $2 million. Found this on baseballanalysts.com
  19. What about Vargus, Capellan and Mench for Gagne, Sosa and Eric Hurley. He is a AA starting pitching prospect who is 6 - 1 with a 2.64 ERA in 75 innings with 62 strikeouts and 22 walks. Meanwhile bring up Gallardo for the 5th spot in the rotation and skip his turn when we can to keep his innings down. Move Parra to AAA and insert Hurley in Huntsville.
  20. Quick check of milb.com stats for all active minor league players... Lou Palmisano has the highest OPS (.950) of all qualifying minor league catchers. Only 6 catchers sporting over .900 OPS in all of minors. Is it safe to say he is back to the same level of a prospect he was while in the Pioneer League? 2003 stats at Helena (R+) .391 .448 .592 1.040 League MVP 2007 stats at Huntsville (AA) .316 .459 .491 .950
  21. I love Tony as our future leadoff hitter but I just have a gut feeling ( I hope is wrong) Team Canada thinks that they need more power and higher OPS from their outfielders. They already have Gross and Nix as lefties in the outfield for a couple more years who have more power than Tony. SD would probably love to get him. I would like one of their catchers (Bowen or Bard) if we did a deal but that is asking too much. Meredith should provide some young bullpen depth if acquired. Thoughts???
  22. Without looking at their contracts I was thinking Justin Duchscherer and Jay Marshall. Is that too steep or not enough? Duchscherer is at about 1.2 mil this year in salary, arby years in 08 and 09 and a free agent in 2010. Marshall is near the minimum for 07 - 09 and arby years in 2010 - 2012.
