  1. But will he still be on the 40 man in the offseason? I kind of doubt it. I hope they offer him a 2 year minor league deal after this year and then convert him to relief, but he is a long-shot at this point.
  2. well, Frankie Rodriguez came up in Spetember 2002 with the Angels when he was only 20, but the difference is that he had already been converted to relief that year (which is kind of weird because he was doing pretty well as a starter previously, minus one year in the Cal league, but high ERAs are the norm there). Also he had begun the year in AA and was in AAA beore year's end.
  3. I agree that nothing good should be dealt away for bench help. The Brewers should concentrate on getting an obvous upgrade, as getting a guy like David Bell will not help them this year. The team could possibly get a good bat without giving up a ton, the Yankees got Abreu last year for not much because they were willing to take on salary. It remains to be seen whether the Brewers really are willing as well.
  4. I'm just curious if the Brewers took anybody who fell because of signability concerns. I know it was thought that they might because they had no 2nd round pick, but I haven't seen any word of whether they actually did that or not.
  5. I was thinking the same thing when I saw his name. I wonder who got him?
  6. What's LaPorta's B-Day, height/weight and handedness?
  7. But those guys will still be relatively cheap for 3 years.
  8. But you've already got $11 million tied up in a 3rd/4th starter on the wrong side of 30 when the team has other, cheaper, younger options for the rotation. Wouldn't you rather pay a dominant guy than an average guy? I'd try to trade Suppan after this year (or next year), and offer Cordero a 3 year/$40 million dollar contract. I'd much rather have that money tied up in Cordero, which I think is defensible.
  9. That would be a good idea too. Would Billy take over in left or center in 2008?
  10. I saw that too, and the only thing I'll say about it is that if my cell phone falls into a sewer, that thing is gone.
  11. these are all great ideas guys. When you say seal the tile, do you know what you would use to do something like that?
  12. But what does that have to do with anything? The issue is that the Brewers seem to have 7 good (enough) starters but only 1 good reliever (2, if you count 1 of the starters, Villanueva). Keeping your best reliever would seem to be a better use of resources than keeping your 4th or 5th best starter, especially when you have several other guys who aren't much worse, if at all (Bush, Vargas). But that's just my opinion. If you ask me would I rather have this: Sheets Capuano Suppan Gallardo Villanueva Turnbow Bush Vargas Wise Capellan Shouse Spurling or this: Sheets Capuano Bush Gallardo Villanueva Cordero Turnbow Vargas Wise Capellan Shouse Spurling I would take the 2nd option 10 times out of 10.
  13. Depending on what the Brewers really think of Braun's defense, I'm thinking left field because Cabrera seems to be not that great at 3rd (kind of how Pujols was when he played over there). Then, in that scenario, the Brewers would trade Jenkins/Mench for whatever pitching help they could get. (Maybe the Astros would be interested in Jenkins for Lidge or something along those lines, seeing how bad their offense is.)
  14. I'm not sure I would do this (or if the Marlins would), but this is only Miguel's 4th full season, so a team would still have him for two years after this season before he became a FA. Cabrera is 6 months younger than Weeks but for 3 straight years has been hitting like Hank Aaron in his prime. If the Brewers could get Cabrera, they would arguably have the greatest collection of 25 and under htting talent in major league history with Prince, JJ, Miguel, Ryan, Rickie, and Corey taking up 3/4th of their lineup. Would it be worth it to make such a trade, given the flame-out potential that all young pitchers have? Or would Cabrera's increasing arby salaries and 2 1/2 years of control make the deal not worth it for a low revenue team like the Brewers? As an aside, how much is Cabrera going to get paid after 2009? If he's at 3rd still, I could see him surpassing A-Rod's quarter billion dollar contract, especially if he breaks out a 50 homer season or two. Even if he moves back to the outfield, he'll get Manny Ramirez money at least. Good to be him right now.
  15. Hi everybody- My wife has done some volunteering at an elementary school in minneapolis for the past couple years and this year the kids did an art project where they all decorated a tile with permanent marker and then were going to make the tiles into a tabletop for the classroom. Now, the teacher who had this idea said that she had a friend that would handle the grouting, so my wife assumed that she knew what she was doing. However, when the teacher talked to her friend, he said he couldn't grout the tiles, as that would ruin the artwork on them. I have no idea how this didn't get figured out before they did the art project, but whatever. My wife and the kids are really devestated by this, so I was just wondering if anyone had any idea how or if this could be remedied. Thanks!
  16. little harsh to call the poor kid a bastard. Having illegitimate (I assume you mean that Proctor is married to someone else, otherwise who cares about unmarried parents anymore?) kids with a player can't be good for a TV reporter's career. She'll be known around the league as a... , well, you know.
  17. I'd say keep him. I don't know why they couldn't resign him if they wanted, they gave Suppan 10+ million per, why not Cordero? Especially when you consider that Jenkins and Mench will likely be gone, which will save money. Heck, deal Suppan if it comes down to that.
  18. Zambrano to Milwaukee would be better. How about Bush, Turnbow, and Palmisano? Would that be enough for a 3 month rental or would the Cubs want more? Imagine Sheets and Zambrano at the front of an October rotation, even if it was for only one year.
  19. The Sporting News has an article today where a few players name the best in their fields (ie, Sheets names his 5 favorite pitchers to watch, etc.). Todd Helton says that Prince has the 2nd best lefthanded swing in MLB and Jason Bay says that JJ and Prince are the 2 most underappreciated players in the game. link: www.sportingnews.com/your...p?t=218293
  20. well, he could hit in high school. He hasn't hit at all in the pros, and Grady Fuson is one of the best scouting directors around.
  21. Not a very timely joke from the guys in the Golden League. Maybe next they'll have a "I've fallen and can't get up" day at the ballpark.
  22. The bullpen hasn't been all that great outside of Cordero and Villanueva (Turnbow and Wise have had their moments), but I think that Mesa was washed up 5 years ago. I hope the Brewers don't have any interest.
  23. Teixeira is probably going to sign for $20 million or so, so most teams that trade for him would only be getting him for a year and a half. Nobody is giving up a Hughes or Gallardo for that, at least I don't see how anyone can. Plus, Teixeira isn't really all that great. He's very good, yes, but he's overrated because of the park he plays in and the flukey amount of RBIs he had in 2005. Someone will pay him like he's a truly great player though.
  24. Why? He hasn't hit at all yet, why move him to a spot where he'd have to hit even more in order to advance through the system?
  25. well, I remember hearing that Bush had a great arm, so this isn't the worst idea in the world. Maybe he can make it, I know a couple guys have.
