  1. This is a fair criticism...agree and might have gone Koenig to open.
  2. Brewers getting a lot of criticism on using the openers and Ashby certainly showing some signs of wear...but that Ohtani sticking the bat out was some serious mid season Brewers luck. It's not like Miz is going more than he did anyway. They've given up 10 runs in 3 games with a barebones rotation and a bullpen on fumes...against the best lineup in the game. It's not the pitching or the management...it's amazing they've done as well as they have with what they have. Outside of Bauers their LH bats look utterly lost. They are facing great pitching but there have been places to apply more pressure than they have. Treinen still looks every bit of the garbage he's been the last two months and Turang swings at uncompetitive pitch Monday then others swinging through meatballs yesterday. Raleigh or Vladdy will chew that guy up hard.
  3. Former Brewer Bernie Carbo on the list!
  4. Totally agree. I think it’s the superior strategy but he’s got the inferior pen to pull it off. Schildt had the hand to play and didn’t.
  5. Schildt getting Craigtembered today. He’s got the superior pen but waits where Counsell pulls his starter at first sign of trouble.
  6. On the Cain contract...think of it like Aramis Ramirez. He paid for himself early in the deal before declining. Cain won't be earning his contract in year 5, the hope is he exceeds it by quite a bit in the early years. It's a competitive bid situation and every team needs at least some FA (albeit selectively) as a part of the mix. I agree with the longer post as well...excellent summary. Yelich is special. The next moves will be interesting given the plethora of OF, the need for another arm or two and the option of adding younger prospects to keep the farm engine going. Stearns seems to know more about this than I do and appears to have the fortitude to move against the grain which is needed if they want to differentiate themselves.
  7. It is certainly a hefty price, but I like they are adjusting to the market and their position. The team won 86 games, but didn't really score enough after the torrid start to repeat that level this season. As good as Shaw and Santana were, they don't profile as the top bats on a Championship team. Yelich, Cain into that lineup make it potent. The farm system still has plenty of depth, so perhaps another player will emerge the way Brinson did. They should still have a borderline top 10 system. They need one more front line starter, and perhaps another strong bullpen arm like they had with Swarczak, and this team could do some damage. It would be nice if they could do this without losing Santana. Perhaps 5 guys can take 4 spots if 1B is included. With Braun's reduced playing time, that could be perfect for the team. They've got the payroll room and the prospects to make the next move. No reason to step in with a toe...they might as well finish the plan and go for it. Will be fun to watch.
  8. Hey cbus I went last year and it was a total BLAST! The coaches were great, the other campers were really fun and just being out there playing baseball was awesome. How often do you get to hang out for a week with a bunch of people that love baseball and the Brewers that much at our age?!? I'm planning on returning next year for sure. As far as stuff to bring, they do cover most of the things and there is daily laundry service for the baseball clothes (they'll have sharpies to put your locker number on your clothes and it will be hanging up the next day when you arrive). What i would suggest are: 1) Baseball sliders. They give you a pair of stretchy undergarments, but the sliders give you a little more padding. 2) Glove - obviously 3) Cleats - I would highly suggest getting these broken in before you get there...the shoes and your feet. You'll be on your feet in these a good 8 hours a day. 4) Sunglasses - The angle on the sun on a few of the fields is brutal. Especially in the outfield. 5) Undershirts - They give you a couple, but I might bring one long sleeve warmer one. The ones they gave were the dry fit types. We ran into some really cold weather on a couple days. 6) Jock and supporter - don't be a hero here...if you are playing anywhere besides outfield, you are going to want one. You just never know where that ball is going after all these years. 7) Shower shoes - not mandatory, but I like them for the locker room. 8) Pads or braces depending on your body. I wore some knee pads for my bum knees. 9) Money - If you forget or want anything, just bring some cash and the clubbies will get it for you at a reasonable price. When it got freezing cold last year, a bunch of us bought those warm winter Brewer jackets that were life savers. The other items are optional...some guys bring their own bats, but they have plenty. You get a hat, uni (home and away tops), batting gloves, a few undergarments, socks, belt, a smaller bag for clothes (not big enough if you bring a bat, but fine otherwise) and they have helmets. I got everything on eastbay. Sometimes the stock at the local stores is limited. Have a great time...ping me if you have any other questions.
