  1. If a woman ever makes it to the Majors, this is how it'll happen, by throwing a knuckleball.
  2. I'm a big House fan, but I think that show needs to go. The producers made a big mistake in not writing Chase, Cameron and Foreman out of the show entirely after the third season. As a result, they're left trying to make the show work with an ensemble cast, and it just doesn't. The show in its current form isn't well paced and doesn't bear much resemblance to what worked in the first place. I believe that Hugh Laurie's contract is up at the end of the season and the show is getting close to jumping the shark with a House-Cuddy romance. 24 should probably also go, though I think it's a victim of the times. The first season of 24 was great because it was so genre-busting. Since, the show has become quite formulaic but tried to distinguish itself in the past couple of years by making Jack into almost an anti-hero; unfortunately, this is happening at the time when every superhero film and action movie is doing the same thing.
  3. Not only did Rottino pitch in the season finale, he also played every position on the diamond during the extra inning game. MJC
  4. Postponed: Huntsville at Birmingham (White Sox), rain Huntsville Site Update: The Stars and Barons were rained out on Sunday evening at Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. In game two, Stars left-hander Jeff Housman (4-6, 3.23) meets Barons right-hander Eduardo Villacis (2-2, 3.04). The FPH Financial Services Pre-Game Show starts at 5:45 p.m. CT. Stars baseball can be heard on ESPN 1450 and at www.huntsvillestars.com. 8. Final From Arizona: ARI FINAL R H E - - - ARIZ BREWERS 5 7 2 ARIZ PADRES 6 14 2 Baby Brewers fall again. Box score should be available tomorrow. MJC
  9. I was at the Snappers game today as well. Micah Furtado, 2B for Clinton, really looks great. I saw him hit in BP and was very impressed. He hit an opposite field HR in his first at bat, solid single in the 6th. He also flied out hard to center. He is just a little guy (5'7"?) but he has an awful lot of pop. Hitting .375 in the MWL so far this season. I concur on Will Lewis's performance tonight. He was hardly pitched to in his first two PAs: 2 BB on 9 pitches. His double was huge and really struck well. As said earlier, it should have been a 3B. MJC
  10. I agree that Rogers was impressive. Unfortunately, Powell mentioned later during the broadcast that Rogers reminds him a lot of J.M. Gold. The kiss of death for any prospect. MJC
  11. Once again, I have to ask what is going on. How were the Crew's three runs in the 2nd unearned? Yes, Loretta botched the double play, but Ginter reaches anywqay on the FC. The error only applies to Spivey, who reached second instead of being thrown out. At least two runs should be earned for the following reasons: 1. One out when the error occured, not two. 2. You can't assume the double play, so Ginter reached on a legit FC. 3. The errors only effect was to allow Spivey to advance to 2nd. I suppose you could say Spivey's run was unearned since he should have been out, but that is all. What is up? Is this another Tim O'Driscoll screw up? MJC
  12. Tim O'Driscoll has to be among the worst official scorers in baseball. Single + error on Spivey? ***? I have yet to see O'Driscoll make at least a reasonable call on anything the least bit out of the ordinary. Time for baseball to go to the five man umpiring crew and get some consistency/competence. MJC
  13. Just got back from the game. A few observations: 1. Santos really looked good in the first two frames. He was mixing the fastball/changeup up very nicely, and seemed to have most everyone fooled. After the Bennett miscue, he seemed to get very rattled, abandoned the changeup, and threw almost exclusively fastballs. A situation like that is where a veteran like Bennett or Mike Maddux has to come out, settle him down, and force him to stick to the game plan. 2. Jenkins and Podsednik are absolutely killing this team. With Brady Clark in there today as well, we have not only dead space in three key spots in the order (1,3,6) but black holes. It seems like Jenkins and Clark especially pride themselves on taking something away from the team whenever they bat. Jenkins is absolutely clueless with timing and pitch selection, and Podsednik is far too defensive at the plate. He is no longer attacking balls, and as a result is hitting lots of weak ground balls and looping fly balls. 3. Very nice AB by Corey Hart. Good two strike swing, good composure after the 0-2 count. I would be all for sending Wise/Adams/Durrington back down for a couple of days and letting Hart get a couple of starts (do these guys have options?). This would also help send a message to Jenkins/Podsednik. MJC
  14. It would really be a shame if Hart doesn't get in there today. Probably his last day in the majors -- for now -- with Capuano most likely starting tomorrow, and the Brewers are facing a left handed batter. As several on this board have suggested, Ned ought to start Hart and then "reverse pinch hit" for him if the game gets tight. Let him get in a few swings against the lefty earlier in the game, and then pull him in a key situation or when a righty comes in and let Clark/Grieve hit. MJC
  15. Suns tie it up 1-1 in top of 6. Saenz retired first two batters on just two pitches, and gave up a two out walk. Beautiful hit and run set up runners at the corners and a soft single tied it. MJC Edit: Stars get out of it without further damage. Gwynn, Weeks, Nelson due up next inning -- let's take the lead!
  16. Cougars up 6-2 in bottom of 5. I just tuned the game in, but must have been a rough night for Montalbo. MJC
  17. Unfortunately, although all 5 teams won, I don't think we can classify this as an "organizational sweep" because of the Beloit loss. Very close. Let's try to get a couple before Rookie ball starts up, making the feat even more difficult. MJC
  18. Vizcaino has the hanging slider working beautifully today. MJC

Edit: Luckily, Davis worked out of it. I would have been furious if that had cost us a couple of runs. MJC
  20. Thank God for Lyle Overbay. Someone needs to pick up the slack when Podsednik, Jenkins, et. al. have decided to completely mail it in. MJC Edit: Anger still remains because of hitters 1-4 and 6-9.
  21. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif I would rather see the pitching staff give up 18 runs than watch our offense slowly drown against mediocre pitchers. MJC
  22. I agree that I like this matchup on paper, but I am a bit worried about the Brewer's anemic offense as of late. Let's say 7 IP, 3ER for Sheets, and 5 IP 4 ER for Fogg. Brewers win, 5-3. If Pods can get on base a few times and Jenkins could find his stroke, we could shell this guy. MJC
  23. Podsednik!!!!!!!!! Seriously, when's the last time Pods has had 2 hits in a game? (and 6 TB?) MJC

  25. Yes, I saw the same game, German (4/07/02). I went back and checked my scorecard. 17 strikeouts for Curt, 1 hit, by Raul Casanova in the 3rd. Two BB, both to Jeffrey Hammonds. Jose Hernandez leads the Crew at 0-3, 3 K. Final score was 2-0. It was definetely the most dominant performance I had ever seen. I have to add today's game to that now (although I wasn't there today). MJC Edit: I looked at two cards at the same time and accidentally recorded Berkman and Hidalgo as having homered for the D-Backs.
