  1. So with both Villy and Vargas in the Pen...do the Brewers go with 13 pitchers...or who does not make the BP between Mota and Torress..... I think 6 of our Bull pen jobs are locks.... unless Choate, Stetter or McClung have a great spring...and Mota struggles or injuries happen... So that leaves just the long man spot open....I do see the need to trade at least one of our starters....
  2. I dont see it as a HUGE downgrade but I do see it as a down grade because you have to be careful with injury concerns...... I think our Bull Pen is Better as a whole however...with Mota/ Riske/ Torress/ Gagne replacing Wise/ Linebrink/ Aquino/ Cordero
  3. The Sox and Yankees both rebuild their Farm Systems quickly because they dont stick to the Slotting rule that Baseball wants teams to stick with......These Top 5 guys drop because they want huge deals...and they drop to the Yankees and pay them A ton of money...and they do this for some of these kids that get drafted in the 10th round...that probably would be first round picks the next season......thats how you restock fast...just pay the draft picks a lot of money and go after the ones that have signability problems.
  4. There is no way he returns to Catcher....he has already had injury problems.... plus he is bigger now then he was when he first played catcher... Bill Hall has a better chance to be Catcher then Laporta.
  5. He will be a Bullpen guy nothing more....probably will be part of our young Bullpen next season when we lose all of the one year contracts..... The thing is though Jackson cant be a Lefty specialist because Lefties hit him pretty hard.... He I think could be our Long man or just a MRP next year. His stuff is just average...and he has to be on target all the time... which he is not.
  6. I do like CV.... its just I am most worried about him then ANY other potential starter... just because he looks so good in those 12 starts he has had..... but I just think he is going to get the spot and do well in April...then get crushed from May on...
  7. If we can trade Bush for a catching prospect...I would do it in a flash...and I like Dave Bush... Atlanta for Pena.....Texas for Teargaden(would have to add more than Bush..this might be a Cappy and prospect deal)
  8. That is going a bit too far. I don't expect CV to be much better than a #3 or #4 but the average #5 is a 5+ ERA. I do not think that is CV's ceiling at all. Well I have seen CV discussed in Keith Law and Jim Callis' chats on ESPN and both times when asked what his ceiling is they have said 5th starter or Long Man out of Bullpen... I mean he does not really have a plus pitch at all...at least in my opinion.. he tops out at 89-91Mph.... and has to have pin point control..... I think he has done very good but thats because he has only started 6 games each of the last 2 seasons.
  9. I dont think he wore glasses at least i dont remember seeing him wear glasses when I watched Cubs games.... and maybe it was more of a distance thing like he could see the 2nd basemen but it was blurry so his throw was off target a little...... But the fact is People dont drop their production in basically Half from one year to the other..... and he as a .202 hitter in Oakland.....So I am looking for a .270/ .345-.350 type year from him..... I will be pleased with that OBP...especially after Johnny "Never Walk" Estrada
  10. I think the Brewers have to have one Lefty in the Rotation..... So one Spot is between Parra and Cappy...most likely going to Cappuano, to at least get his value up higher in the first half and Protect Parra's arm in the Minors for the 2nd half run. That leaves Villy, Bush and Vargas fighting out for the other spot..... I like Bush and Villy.... but some on here think that Villy and his 12 starts have earned him a starting spot, I dont think thats the case....he has done very well in those 12 starts but again he had 6 starts in 2007 and 6 starts in 2006...he does not have that great of stuff and there is not much of a book out on him yet....I think he will struggle a lot as a starter.. Bush has always had very good perphials and he was one of the most unlucky pitchers last year going off of his BABIP numbers Anyway what I would want to see.....Sheets/ Yovanni/ Cappuano/ Suppan/ Bush......Parra in Triple A(2 months)..... Vargas traded(for prospect).... Villy in BP What I expect to see...... Sheets/ Yovanni/ Suppan/ Villuanuva/ Cappuano.........Parra in Triple A(2 months) Bush Traded(for better prospect).... Vargas in BP Bush and Cappy have the most value.... and Bush at 2.55 million this year will make some team that needs a 5th starter calling during Spring Training....
  11. Guys I dont know if this has been said or not..... but Kendall had Lasik eye surgery in November and has told people that it makes a Huge difference...... maybe thats why his batting average dropped from .290 to .240 from 2006 to 2007...... or the fact that his 30% throwing out rate dropped to 15% from 2006 to 2007....its tough to throw people out when your aim is off.....
  12. Also with his mentoring skills it wont even be this year that the Brewers reap those rewards it will be next year.... I mean this year we have a very expirenced Bull pen filled with guys who have one year deals..... now next season we could have alot of young guys like...McClung, Pena, Jackson, Stetter and Choate all in the Bullpen...which is where Riske will come in and be the Mentor and help them out.
  13. I hate to Split hairs but...CV is not a pitching Phenom....seriously his Ceiling is and always has been a #5 starter.....hell in 2006 at this time right now he was not in even in Baseball America's top 30 in the Brewer Org.... he was named to the 31st team though...guys who should be watched out for that did not make the top 30 in their org..... but he will always be a back end guy.... Yo and Healthy Parra and Healthy Rogers are pitching Phenoms....
  14. Roberts does not help the Cubs out that much.... he has had 2 years where he has been over .350OBP.... Plus if Soriano is moved from the Leadoff spot you make him very upset and whiny... Also if Soriano is moved to batting 2nd then that kills the Speed of Roberts...since Soriano is a first pitch fastball swinger... He wont be looking at pitches to allow Roberts to steal a base. Fukudome is ONLY an upgrade on Defense and maybe OBP in Right..... The Cubs RFers combined for a .295BA/ .375OBP/ 12HRs/ 80RBI.....to me thats about what Fukudome will give... his line will probably be .275Ba/ .380OBP/ 15Hrs/ 80RBI Roberts is not much of an upgrade Defensively either...Derosa and Roberts actually are pretty similar with the glove Soto is an upgrade for them Defensively....and should be in the .265BA/ .325OBP/ 16HR range but he could be much worse.... it took him 3 years at triple to finally have a good year in Triple A... Theriot is below average SS... and Below average at the plate... They have a ton of question marks... and Pie and Theriot are big offensive holes.... Soto and Fukudome are big questions in terms of potential production.. I think the Cubs offense will be better this year...but I also think their pitching regresses...looking at BABIP and FIP numbers that looks like a resonable expectation
  15. Why we got a guy in Mota who probably needed to get out of NY... still throws the ball 95mph and is pretty cheap in this RP market... I think give Maddux a chance with Mota we could have a decent BP arm... for basically nothing.
  16. Left Field IMO is not all that important.... I would love to have Bay, mike Cammeron, or a host of names...but really its NOT that important... We can have a platoon of Gross/Dillion and have it be more succesfull then last years platoon. Gross/Dillion platoon would get us a .280 BA/ .350 OBP/ 20 HRs/ 80 RBIs They would be perfect in the 2 hole behind Weeks...because both guys know how to hit for contact and do not strike out that much....plus both did very well batting 2nd last year..especially when Gross came back up in Mid August and helped ignite the Brewer O with a healthy Weeks. I of course would love to have a bigger name guy...but seriously with the Power of Fielder, Braun, Hart..the brewers need more OBP guys then anything else..so Gross and Dillion fit that and Gross hits Righties ery well and Dillion is good against Lefties...
  17. Yeah Latings was going for a lot more last year at the trade deadline..... even sounded like there was talk of Lating Millidge for Zito on the Giants... Church is injury prone...and so is Schnieder...both solid players but Lastings potentially could be a very good player but sounds like they just might try to trade Estrada and if they cant just non-tender him .... which means then Mota basically was a Free Agent signing since the Mets got nothing for him...lol
